I feel like there should be the option but i dont think he should live in most endings.
Would you be okay with Shepard dying in the end?

I would love an ending, where Shepard dies, the Reaper wins, and after the credits instead the Stargazer scene there would be another were someone/something finds one of Liara's boxes, and the holo image of Shepard would pop up.

I'd be fine with Shep dying in the end if it was a lucid and satisfying ending which showed him'her dying for more then some random crash landing on a jungle.

It would be ok if you had the choice and thus give meaning to the sacrifice and not just watch everything being decided and take from you.

I went into Mass Effect 3 before it was out hoping and expecting my Sheps to die. The story through all the games just seems to warrant that to me. However, I do not care if he lives for other people. To Each their Shep.

So long as my choices led me to my death and that Shepard's death wasn't just out of character.

Yes, a heroic death would have been wonderful.

NO. for my renegade character
I'm a space ****** renegade. i'd choose the selfish way out and live.
they offerred this in DA:O - self sacrifice or do a little naughty and live.
I'd like the choices to have different consequences.

I wanted to synthesis, but I wanted Shep to live. Full Paragon, destroy.
Still regret it somehow.

I think there should be options.
But if he HAS to die, I wouldn't not be okay with it, but it just seems wholly unnecessary. It's not thought-provoking which is the usual argument behind tragedy. It would be clicheed and tired to have the main character sacrifice himself for a bazillion years of peace or whatever. And the way they decided to do it was DEFINITELY not emotionally provocative.
It's like he would die and I would be mildly frustrated at the somewhat low emotional pay-off, but in the end say, "Oh, that sucks..." and then get ready for another play-through. Not like Mordin where I was all *cry-sob-cry*. I mean, it wouldn't help the endings, but it wouldn't break them either.

Ugh, non spoiler section, odd choice for this thread, you've tied my hands now
I'm okay with self sacrifice but it has to mean something, it was used a couple of times in the game with amazing effect, I couldn't imagine those plot lines ending any other way and I don't mourn those who died, I applaud them. Regarding Shepard, his choice did not feel like his own and the outcome didn't feel worthy.

Watch DAO, thats a pretty good model.
If people want to go the heroic death route, its open and satisfying. WITH AN EPILOGUE.
If they don't they can go have happy rainbows and unicorns.
Great thing about having multiple options/endings is you can actually make everyone happy.
Shock concept I know.

My Shepard fight for his own survival, so if he was about to die he would probably flee instead.

if it was because of my decisions prior etc i am more than happy to die but if its forced i say NO.
because it is meant to be our story and we decide how shepard ends whether it be with sacrifice or surviving and live off the royalties from the vids.
its our choice that Bioware have been saying we can have an ending that caters as much as it can to what we want which currently it does not to only a very small minority

The key thing is that if Shepard dies it has to be for a good reason. No arbitrary:
"Hey, melt yourself in this green beam, it'll make the world better"
"Can't we just switch on the green beam anyway?"
"No"
"...So, why do i need to die?"
"BECAUSE"
I also happen to keep to heart Eve's little lesson about never giving up and keep digging til you hit light. No matter how dire the situation my Shepard isn't going to just roll over and give up without a hell of a fight and absolutely no way out.

I'd be OK with it but it's a little clichéd these days to have your hero perform selfless acts of sacrifice.
Plus he's already died once.

I think both should be an option depending on how you play the game. If you're a completionist who devoted the time to completing every side mission and gaining every ally and asset then you should be rewarded with your Shep being able to survive. If you just rushed thru the game and didn't gather hardly any assets then you're Shep would die. However, if your Shep sacrificing themselves to save the galaxy is the kind of canon/story you want then that should also be an option, depending on the choices you make.
