The reason you're probably having difficulty is because you don't have a good Salarian Engineer. They have the most important job and need to keep that decoy up or else you'll get in some trouble. I've been in some games with terrible Salarian Engineers that don't know how to use their decoys and keep up fresh decoys and the key to that bottom floor is the decoy, especially in the later rounds when you run into multiple Primes.

1-2 engies inside, stacking them and taking everything that spawns (only 2 directions)
1-2 damage classes (infiltrators/biotics) inside killing.
1 Infiltrator outside in the L made by metal whateverthingies sniping at anything he sees. Once everything is dead outside you can move up a step and snipe into the room.
Infiltrator outside gets the most points if (s)he can hit stuff... and "one" shot pyro/rocket guys. Infiltrator outside will not get swarmed due to stealth.

I trust you've seen my (and phos4us') previous explanation, so I won't beat that horse again, but I honestly don't know what's going wrong that you're getting wiped in that room. I've found it to be much easier than the ladder with much fewer deaths and the only real requirements are one Salarian Engineer and one Infiltrator; I'm hardly a good player, yet once the entire team is in that position it's pretty much trivial to win.eldrjth wrote...
I have. they are worse players imo than the top of the ladder group. esp in obj rounds. when Im forced to play bottom position with my sal engineer the team lacks firepower/skill as a whole and gets overwhelmed with primes/pyros/rockets/hunters easily. I cant carry a group from there, like a can with a sniper infil on top. they cant dish out the dps and rely on poor dps tech skills in place of highly damaging sniper rifles. I dont even get it honestly. I lead the scoreboard when I play sal infil from down stairs with the screen shacking all the time from rockets/primes/burst, yet the team gets consistantly wiped? they are obviously lesser skilled players looking for an easy location and dont realise its actually more difficult.
Both ladder and room are perfectly valid strategies and, naturally, both can be screwed over by bad players who would rather run off than hold position. Perhaps you've just had terrible luck, but don't write off something that so many people are swearing by without at least considering the merits that have been put forth.
Edit: Okay, just had my first wipe in that area, and I know exactly why: because I left the Decoy duty to someone else. The engineer kept running around to maximize his points and failed to keep the Decoy in the doorway, and would often run back to a terrible position when things got too close. The trick is simply not to move from that spot and keep the Decoy up, otherwise your glass cannons will go down.

I've run it with ladder, bottom-room without Decoy & with Decoy as well as all adepts running around ... all are viable strategies
Eldarj, you or a teammate can play Infiltrator & snipe from cover
from the Launch doorway too to help prevent mobs from flanking the
L-desks (usually the hunters will try to flank ... flames from Pyros
usually don't hit)
I don't see how anyone can get only a 40% or below success rate with the bottom-room strategy
unless they're failing to slide around to get instant-grab kills or
neglecting to use MISSILES if they're getting overrun/flanked
for bottom room, you can run it even without Decoy though Decoy makes it easier (then again, I have a Black Widow & Widow X as well as all level 20s but I've powerleveled plenty of level 1 friends using bottom-room)
though even a lvl 1 sabotage or enegy drain is good as are instant-grab kills ...noobies who don't realize they can slide around the L-desks under cover to reach mobs for instant-grab killing makes a big difference too...) ...
To make things easier, it's important to have a good Engineer keeping a Decoy UP when there's Primes or else the guys behind the desks gets flanked & people have to prioritize the mobs that try to flank the guys in the desks
--USE A MISSILE if they're in danger of being overrun
another strategy is to NOT use Decoy when there's only grunts so that way you can kill them faster using instant-grab kills instead of shooting them
Ladder is riskier/faster, no Decoy bottom room is faster/riskier, bottom-room with Decoy safest
BTW, it's important that everyone is spamming powers & shooting for more DPS & have armor-piercing mods to hit multiple targets scrunched up together & use their ammo resupply packs when there's tons of mobs & you don't have time to run to the ammo dump

you should only use a missile during a hacking obj when getting overrun imo. if the other location requires the use of missiles its not as good. it doesnt provide safety through distance, to allow you to pick off enemies. I dont see why I should waste my missiles on noobs who play a bad strat anyway. the top location is safer but seeing as how the 2 desk attracts 1/2 ppl every match now it compromises the success rate. even if one person is not in the right place its not safe up on the top (this doesnt imply that the desk area is safer btw its prone to getting overrun in the latter waves) but with 4, it is safer/faster/easier than any other location by a long way.
if your screen is shaking and a pyro is shooting flames above your desk you cant do much damage. you depend a lot on ability damage that isnt great if youre an enginner but is good if youre an adept. every time you peek out to shoot your sheilds can get drained completely, meaning you have to recover them before casting another low dmg ability. every sniper shoot I make from the top area is doing 2800 dmg, and I fire 1.67 shots a second (with sheilds pre-striped). how does that compare to those tech burst with a base damage of 400-500?. its miserly in comparison, and you cant fire your weapons as often or even hit as often as youre sonstantly under fire/hit or under the effect of screen shaking. terrible for a high dps sniper but engineers dont realise this. they are happy with maybe an extra 20% more score (to their lowish total) compared to maybe a 50% drop in an infiltrators score (which is comparitively high). they are not good players looking for an auto-pilot method of beating a level which is waaay more ineffecient and doesnt yeild nearly as good a credit/time return.
