So many reasons. As for her voice acting, I find her much more..uh..emotive, than Mark Meer. Although he's come really far since ME1.

To clarify, I am a feminist, but I just don't understand this one thing...

Femshep's voice actor sounds like someone who just got out of bed after a night of heavy drinking and smoking or something. She sounds tired with a slightly raspy voice 90% of the time. What's odd is that the same thing is present in Halo Reach with the female Noble 6.

Then you hear Mark Meer's voice, and you just get blown away.

Mark meers voice annoys me.

Also, Meer played the "biotic god" from ME2 (maybe he does all volus, IDK...).

He does the Vorcha voices too. So he's good at funny/strange/cartoony voices. But as a lead protagonist? Eeehhh.. they should have hired someone else.

Really? He does that Cobra Commander voice?

I don't understand what being a feminist has anything to do with personal preference?   "I'm a Feminist, and this is my favorite voice actor on the Citadel!" ??  What do personal political viewpoints have to do with your subjective taste in things?  I tend to be more pro-women in my political stances (mostly because I think it's silly to vote against yourself) and I also liked Hale better because she captured pretty realistically what a female Marine would sound like.  The two don't really have anything to do with each other.

"I'm a female Marine, and Jennifer Hale is my favorite voice actor in ME3."  XD

Hale does sound like she might smoke. My own voice sounds like that, and I used to smoke a couple packs/day until 10 yrs ago. But for Shepard it really works. You know Shepard is exhausted about 90% of the time having to deal with all the crap. Hale is also 40. A woman's voice peaks in her mid-30s.

You can also hear the fatigue in Hackett's voice (Lance Henrickson). Whoever plays Anderson does a great job of conveying it toward the end of the game. He's worn out, and tired of fighting.

Mark Meer is about 10 yrs younger than Hale, but he IMO delivers the lines with less emotion. A man's voice will peak in his mid-late 40s.

For me, Hale is Shepard.

Cynical side of me cant help but seeing too many men enjoying making a femshep to put into lesbian encounters =P

And before people get all angry at this, having been in vent in other games I have heard many guys express making female characters in games JUST for that sole purpose.

Actually, a lot of people prefer her voice. Many people, like I, think Meer's voice sounds really monotone and unemotional.

Yeah, this is how I feel about Meer's voice as well.

I really enjoy Hale's voice, although it's somewhat masculine.  I don't think either voice is perfect, but Hale's definitely wins it for me.

Sure, sometimes Meer's voice can be a bit too monotone. But on the other hand it works perfectly as both a renegade and a paragon. I had huge problems when I played DA2. I usually play about 50/50 paragon/renegade and playing male Hawke was like playing someone with personality disorder. He was either very gentle in his answers/question or he was furious, rarely anything in between. And it could change in a sentence. That's almost never a problem with Meer, so that's awesome. Sorry I didn't compare to FemShep, but it's been years since I played her. :(

If you really think about it, the husky masculine voice from Hale and the linebacker/gorilla body animations lend itself to that sort of conclusion anyway. ;)

Not that I'm claiming all lesbians have manly body language!

I play far more male sheps, but Jen Hale vs whoever does the guy voice is like the Meryl Streep of voice acting vs Dane Cook.

Interesting fact time - Mark Meer is legitimately terrific in nearly every role he's played - except Shepard. It's something that defies all reason.

His performance improved in ME3, but he still falls pretty flat in most of his scenes.

Never played a maleshep, so I cannot really compare their talent. I guess they are both great.

But Jennifer Hale...I simply adore her voice acting on Femshep. She even makes me listen to dialogues I have heard multiple times...

And for her sounding too "masculine"...well, she IS a soldier after all?

And I simply love the idea of believable female bad-aiss action-heroines. You don't get so many of these, Male actions heroes bore me to death...

Claiming to be a feminist and then bashing a womans voice because it is lower and raspier is kinda silly.
If you dont like Her voice acting, you doing like it, thats fine. Feminism has absolutely nothing to do wih that.

I personally enjoyed earing a woman in a game have a mature sounding lower voice as i'm a woman with a lower voice myself. Asa result she doesnt sound overly "girly

Hey, personally I think that he is not as good as Hale, but BroShep doesn't deserve that comparison.
