Really? He does that Cobra Commander voice?
Interesting fact time - Mark Meer is legitimately terrific in nearly every role he's played - except Shepard. It's something that defies all reason.
His performance improved in ME3, but he still falls pretty flat in most of his scenes.
I figure the director told him to be flat in order to be the "everyman" voice, while Hale is under no such constraints.
I've noticed this in quite a few games with male characters, which is why the concept of the "everyman" is idiotic to begin with.

If you really think about it, the husky masculine voice from Hale and the linebacker/gorilla body animations lend itself to that sort of conclusion anyway.
Not that I'm claiming all lesbians have manly body language!

Hey, personally I think that he is not as good as Hale, but BroShep doesn't deserve that comparison.Carlthestrange wrote...
Because Male Shep has less acting tallent than the cast of Twilight.
I know it was a nasty comparison, and even maleshep don't deserve it, but I just felt it was good humor.
Truth is, nothing is worse than acting in Twilight.

Both have their merits but for me, I preffered Hale's performance over-all, it's been good and consistent from the start, absolutely no disrespect to Mr Meer at all and I do hope we hear from him in games in the future as he's clearly getting better and better at this voice over malarky.

Actually, a lot of people prefer her voice. Many people, like I, think Meer's voice sounds really monotone and unemotional.
But it's kinda silly to question someone's opinion. We like what we like.
Ugh, no it isn't. Even if your opinion comes out of a horse's rectal orifice, it demands a reason behind it. Opinions that don't have sound reasons deserve to be dismissed outright.

I don't really agree. Sometimes I just prefer things and don't have a solid reason why; I just like them more. And I feel that I don't have to defend my preferences. But I respect your thought on it ~

I don't really have a strong preference on voice actor. I play MaleShep because I'm a male, and people tend to identify better with protagonists of the same gender.
I'd be more interested to know what the statistical breakdown is for Male and Female Shep, and within that breakdown, what the breakdown is between men and women generally in the ME player base, what the breakdown is of men who play FemShep as their primary playthrough, and what the breakdown is of Women who play MaleShep as their primary playthrough.

W-what about lesbians putting her in lesbian encounters? >.>
thats different, I was commenting on the reasons for MEN playing femsheps, i added in an additional comment to my original post to clarify heh
Whoa, whoa, whoa. What about the idea that a dude may not want to play as *another* dude for 150+ plus hours? Why not play as a chick, then as long as you have something nice to look at as you run around the goddam Citadel for hours on end finding people missing chits and buying stupid fish?
...and yeah, y'know. Lesbians.

Somebody played chess.
Heard about that, did it to just to get the achievement because someone mentioned the Liara romance might be bugged (no LOTSB on the char), but it I had to reload afterward because Shepard was faithful to Liara.

Nah, a gut feeling would be more of a prediction or something. An opinion is simply an opinion. I like the color green more than red because... I do. I like it more, lol.

It's an opinion, and therefore you can dismiss it for whatever reason you want. I'm sure no one will really care if you do. People don't have to "prove" their personal preferences to you. I do have a thesis on why I like white chocolate more than dark available somewhere, but essentially it comes down to I just freaking like it better.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Nobody has to prove their opinion to anyone. They can always explain them if they want, though, which is what people usually do. I get annoyed when people try to make opinions seem like they can be disproven, or they are black and white. They're subjective, everyone has different opinions. There are no right and wrong ones.
Which is why even though I prefer Hale's voice, and Femshep, I'm totally cool with others preferring a Male Shepard. Play your game how you want to, it's the most fun that way.

Misleading question considering we have the stats that it's only a small percentage of players that play femshep.
Is femshep and Jennifer Hale's voice acting awesome? Yes.
Did BioWare write up a compelling story that worked for a strong female protagonist? Yes.
Personally I don't connect with FemShep. My days of playing a female protagonist just so I have something nice to look at while I play are well behind me. I think Mark Meer does a great job with BroShep (got better in ME2 and nailed ME3 IMHO).
I think the thing to take away here is that Mass Effect's story works really well regardless of gender or sexuality. That's an achievement.

No, I think he's right. The statistic is based off Xbox Live accounts, which isn't all-encompassing, but it's a big sample. The Hale fans are just really devoted and outspoken about it
