It does make you a bit of a cliche, with reference to this topic.

Yep, I have to admit, I much prefer lady Hale's voice work. I really think she does a brilliant job in Mass Effect.
Mr. Meer has a couple of good, solid lines, but the overall experience is just "meh". I don't hate it, but I don't get as emotionally involved.
This about sums it up for me... The main reason I don't like playing as male Shepard is that Meer's performance seems very flat, a soldier who is emotionally stunted. This makes it particularly hard for me to believe any of his romance lines, I always end feeling like he's just telling his LI what he thinks the person wants to hear, because he doesn't actually feel it himself.
The only way it works for me is when he's using the Akuza/only survivor of my squad backstory, then it's easy for me to just assume he's emotionally repressed due to PTSD; but other wise he just doesn't sell his lines for me.
I find Hale's dialogue more enjoyable, her Paragon sounds like the sort of hardcore "Leave no man behind" squad leader and her renegade sounds like the sort of gal who would spin the cylinder on a revolver and ask if you're feeling lucky. What I like most of all is that I can mix it up between Renegade and Paragon with her and I'll actually believe it's all the same character, with Meer his renegade sounds too much like the Lawful Good type, while his Renegade sounds like some emotionless sociopath. It just doesn't work for me.
Of course, as already observed, it really all comes down to personal perception more than anything.

Nobody cheats on FemShep. NOBODY.
Top 2 reasons why out of many:
- Strong female character; hard to find
- Jennifer Hale (aside from obvious qualities, I find her voice hot)
I've played only as femShep, so for me it's Shepard = female commander.

No one can deny that the two VAs are different. They are not simply a male and female version of the same character. Femshep tends to have more emotion in her voice - a greater range - and she injects it with so much more passion. Some people really like this, and I love the way she sounds.
Broshep, on the other hand, is far more stoic. Others prefer this unrelenting toughness. It's more than just male or female - it's which brand of hero you'd rather be.
Personally, I love both and I think it adds more to separate playthroughs as Femshep and Broshep that they almost appear to fundementally different heroes, not simply that their asses are different shapes.

Preferences are not opinions. Prefering vanilla over chocolate or blue or over green are preferences. You're not opining on the merits of vanilla or blue.
An opinion is a response to a why with a why or a what with a why.
And this thread is about which Shep voice people PREFER.
Maybe you need to work on reading comprehension. The thread title asks, "WHY do people like femshep so much?" It's asking for a reason, not a simple, "which one do you prefer." "I prefer ______." "Okay, cool." */thread*

Shepard (at least mine) is one I believe would be so very tired, worn and drained after all she's been through.. Hale captures this beautifully.
Do NOT watch these if you haven't finished the game.. significant spoilers in these 2 videos.

I think we have to bear in mind that it does vary from platform to platform. Xbox Live accounts give a good segment of the console audience favouring MaleShep.
I wonder if the PC reflects the same trend though? Kind of curious as the folks I know who play it on PC tend to be femshep players... myself included.
I am a PC player. (I also play on xbox too) I always play Maleshep.

I'm curious as to where this statistic comes from.
It smells distinctly of bulls**t.
ME3: Final Hours
There are other stats too.
87.2% use customized face.
54% imported save from ME1
18% play female Shep, 82% male Shep
64.59% play Soldier class
Jacob survived the suicide mission in 93.3% of all attempts, whereas Legion only lived in 68.5% of the runs etc.
I think it's pretty much a given that most ME players are casual players (who probably never even heard of BSN) and they play male Soldier.
I concede to your stats.
This is... depressing. Not surprising, though, I guess. Gears of Effect and all.

Thank you! No, definitely not. Or we're both shallow. And I'm cool with that. But I loves me some Femshep regardless. She's amazing.

This. Manshep's romance scenes all have him sounding like a complete douche, which makes the Kaidan romance absolutely hilarious.The5Virtues wrote...

People do not like her that much. Only 18% of all players play as femShep.
I prefer male Shep, easily. But I do enjoy femShep too.
100% of this statistic is complete utter bollocks without any sort of research to back it up.
No, I think he's right. The statistic is based off Xbox Live accounts, which isn't all-encompassing, but it's a big sample. The Hale fans are just really devoted and outspoken about it
Well you also have to take into account how many people rent/borrow the game and never get into it. Most casual gamers by default are going to pick the default male option because he's on the cover and he's the first choice given when selecting a character. Then, the likeliness that they'll play again-- if they even beat it the first time-- are also low, meaning switching genders isn't likely. All of this adds to that 18% stat.
Remember that in the case of "Hale vs. Meer" we can't determine that Meer is better just because more people play as him; it's not like players get story samples of both then decide.
Regardless, it's subjective. I like HaleShep better; that doesn't mean she IS better. It means I like her better.

To clarify, I am a feminist, but I just don't understand this one thing...
Femshep's voice actor sounds like someone who just got out of bed after a night of heavy drinking and smoking or something. She sounds tired with a slightly raspy voice 90% of the time. What's odd is that the same thing is present in Halo Reach with the female Noble 6.
Then you hear Mark Meer's voice, and you just get blown away.
I think they are both pretty good. Its more impressive that Femshep sounds like she could actually be a supersoldier, truely badass.
