Becasue My character != Me? I'm not a Space marine either, but have no problem playing as one, nor do I have any biotic powers, but still have them in game. Also, FemShep is awesome.
Why do men like to play as a female Shepard?

Because Hale does IMO better job then Meer when it comes to voice acting.
However the main reason why i prefer playing fem. Shepard or just female in any game is because i just feel alot more badass when i see woman kicking someone's ass + too many games and movies are puting males in front.
This. I made one male shep but i never finished the game.

I personally don't understand it. Some guys say they would rather stare at a women's ass during their playthroughs, as if somehow doing the opposite will suddenly make them gay. For me, I like to project myself onto the characters I play, and I can't do that with a female, but when I get right down to it, I just can't see a women doing all the stuff Shepard does. *Runs and hides*

My first two playthrougs were male default's...
On PC I am right now 3 males and 2 females...
The third girls is on my PS3 run...
I like both... default maleShep as well as CustomFemShep (but they were lazy not making a unique and nice Default FemShep starting with ME1)

That's me there. Of all the games i've ever played where they allow custom created characters, I've only once created myself (KotOR1). I just never liked "relating to" or "inserting myself" into the shoes of the character.Jayce F wrote...
I think it comes down to personal play style. Some people self-insert. Some want a character they relate to. Some people like to have a character that is far removed from them.I enjoying playing femshep for that latter reason.

Simply put...
1st person view, I play male.
3rd person view, I play female.
1st person view, I play male.
3rd person view, I play female.

These threads always amuse me. In the end who cares if some dudes like playing as femshep or if some chicks like playing as male shep? I play as both and both add their own different flavors to experience.
