Only way I know of is to check a character of each type ...

Yep. Look at the character pages for a fighter, a rogue, and a mage. Unlocked specs will have more color.

And if you're on the PC, then you can hover over the icon with your mouse. Locked ones will say something along the lines of "not unlocked".
