Have a problem with Avernus. In the main hall I have a cutscene which describes the comming battle against the demons so he can close the rift. The cutscene ends and he walks toward the first summoning circle but stops halfway there, turns around and...... nothing. He has a quest arrow over his head but can not click on him. Tech services says this is a gameplay issue, no help on livechat. Help?

I am having what I think is exactly the same problem. Some more details about my situation: I'm playing the Soldier's Peak add-on, and have Avernus apparently about to start closing the rift. I have tried going back to an older save and playing this portion from just before meeting Sofia again. The first time, I killed Sofia straight away, the second time, I killed her when I returned with Avernus. In both attempts, he just stands there and doesn't appear to do anything.
I haven't been able to take a screenshot of the problem for you - pressing Print Screen doesn't appear to do anything, and changing the key-binding to something else doesn't allow me to take screenshots either.
I am using the Steam version of Dragon Age: Origins. The executable is version 1.01.9363.0. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I would be happy to provide you with any more information you require.

Patch 1.02 was released yesterday by BioWare. May resolve your problems. I gotta say, a lot of you guys who downloaded from Steam are having the bulk of the problems, that SUCK's! Good Luck!

I am having this issue as well and have tried multiple solutions all of which have not worked. If you go through and look for certain changes.
One major one I found was in the battle as soon as you come up to the 2nd floor in the great hall with the boos rage demon.
After killing his skeleton healers a second set should appear and 2 additional rage demons should appear. Those havent been appearing for me which makes me wonder if they are causing the bug cause the fight hasnt fully finished.

I'm stuck with this problem also, tried all kinds of stuff to fix it. Even went back and tried having Sophia close the rift, but she did pretty much the exact same thing Avernus does. Says the battle is starting, yet just stands there after the cut scene.

So... I'm understanding you need to complete this DLC in order to get the camp chest. Argh! Hopefully this will get patched soon. In the mean time, I left Avernus standing there and left to proceed with the rest of the game.

Ahh - me too - fecking Steam - please can we all promise never to buy another game on steam. They seem to have so many bugs they never bother to fix.

I am having the same problem. Neither Sophia nor Avernus will start the fight!

Somebody a couple of days ago in a different thread got past this by running in Windowed mode.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no such luck. Windowed mode did not fix.
This is like a meta-quest to figure out how to get this DLC to run correctly...

OK, here is what finally worked for me... I went into the premium content menu and unchecked the Soldier's Peak content. I loaded a game that I saved prior to the time when I first entered the keep and bypassed the warnings and forced it to load. Then I exited the game, relaunched, went into the premium content menu again and re-enabled Soldier's Peak and launched my save just before the bug manifested. The fight immediately kicked off! Sweet! (I am playing the Steam version)

I am having this same problem now, for the first time. Koozino's suggestion did not work. Has anyone found a fix for this yet?

I found a remedy to the problem: Use anything you can to knock Avernus back (I used fireball) onto the bottom right square (the one he is closest to) and the battle will begin...

changing resolution didn't see to work for me (tried both reloads & zone out/in). Avernus would just walk back to the same spot in all resolutions.
however, after getting shale, when i reentered the room, Avernus walked to a different spot much closer to the ring. it only took one boulder from shale to knock him over the spot and the event began.
Thanks for this thread!
