For the fifth time in a row, I've had to unplug my PS3 from the wall and hard-reboot it after joining a multiplayer session.
I can log in, choose my character, get in the lobby, and start up the session, but as soon as I take 3 or 4 steps into the level, the machine locks up. HARD.
On reboot, it does a "Checking and restoring the file system".
This can't be good.
I know I'm not the only player experiencing this.
It's bad enough that the citadel elevator locks up the screen every time I try to go to Docks:Holding Area during Act 1 of single player, but at least there all I have to do is push the power button and wait for the system to restart.
There's something seriously wrong when a game locks up the PS3 (a brand spanking new 160GB slim) so hard that it requires me to unplug it to un-freeze it.
Multiplayer locks up PS3 hard - requires unplug from wall

I'm having just crazy crashes with MP as well, but you shouldn't have to unplug from the wall regardless - just hold down the power button until the PS3 does a full reboot. You'll still get the checking/file restore.
But yeah, I love that I've tossed out 2/3'rds of two completely decent sessions because EA/Ware apparently code.

I'm still getting hard locks all the time. I even replaced my disc to see if that was the issue.

I held off multi-player till just before the end of the single player campaign then realised the Galaxy at War thing was linked. But after playing only 2 battles and then the PS3 freezing realised there was no way in hell I'd get 100% status. Why are Bioware having an extra XP weekend when they haven't even released Patch 1.02 for UK/European players? Poor show all round Bioware; do not expect a day one purchase from myself for any of your future products.

Try ejecting the BR disc and reinserting it if ou get a lockup, rather than unplugging or holding the start button.
You should avoid the system restore process by doing this.

or you can just skip out on MP altogether.

You do know that the PS3 has a switch in the back that you can use instead of unplugging it from the wall, right?
Holding the "power" button down for about 10 seconds seems to always do the trick for me when the game locks up. I just really hope BioWare fixes this issue ASAP.

Slims don't have a switch only the bricks do.
