I'm personally rooting for one, since I felt that the cartoonish, overly smooth and stylised style of DAII took away from the darkness the series encapsulates.

I don't find the art style cartoonish in the least. I've yet to see an actual argument, picture or anything really that would convince me it is, and I've seen that word thrown for more than a year now. Cartoonish for me is Kingdom of Amalur: bright colors, exaggerated features etc... DA2 is nothing like that (with the exception of some weapons. Maker, the size of those things!)

Sorry to disagree Sutekh, but I thought cartoonishness was all over the game.  Meredith's glowing sword!  Meredith's moon jump!  Gigantic statue robots of doom!  Dwarven jaws of doom!  Elves are distinct... ly alien!  Raised reliefs that look like cartoons!  Arishok antlers!  Sebastian's entrance!  Tallis' entrance!  Barefeet for Nature!  Isabela!  Plastic plants!  Glowing tattoos!  And those combat animations, good grief.  In a game like this, combat animations are a big part of the art the player sees, and those were ludicrous.

Many of those elements would have been fine if there were far fewer of them.  The idea that Kirkwall's major art style would be so cartoon-like might have been a great idea, for instance, if they had developed it more and made the rest of the game art very Realist, as Sylvius says.  (Not that I necessarily want that - it'd be great, but I'd be open to other styles too, personally.)

Crap, now I'm thinking about how the broodmothers will have been messed with.

They'll probably be giant bunnies now.

...which would make Merrill's "dire bunnies" comment hilarious. And reminiscent of Monty Python.

DAII Collector's Edition Guide told us that they were Golems. Of a different sort, certainly, but Golems nonetheless.

Good grief.

Now you're making me think that DA2 was partly inspired by Nestle compared to DAO being partly inspired by A Song of Ice and Fire.

That'd certainly make what happened at Kal'Hirol less impressive.

The Deep Roads section of DAO, with the creepy song and the broodmothers.

That would've been less creepy with DA2's art style, I imagine.

I think it'd make it more impressive. The Warden had a close call with not one, not two, but three Bunnies of Death.

Not that I condone Broodmothers being changed into Giant Bunnies. But it'd certainly make me laugh if it was done as a prank scene.

I found the anime "cartoon" look doesn't really fit the gritty mature setting of Dragon Age. Sadly it sounds like they plan to stick with it however.

I kinda liked the looked of the qunari. The Arishokk looked amazing. Sten in DA:O was lacking something that set him apart from the humans. I do agree that they need to return to the original design of the hurlocks and elfs. I was sooo sad when I saw Zevran. I said " Who the heck is this sickly elf? OMG Zevran? What the heck happened to you?"

I might go out on a limb and suggest that DAOA had some prototypes of where they wanted to go, hence the Architect looking vastly different from his description in the book and pretty similar to Corypheus. So maybe broodmothers look more like The Mother and less like that beaked thing in DAO.

Eh, I'm not so sure. There were elements of DAII's Deep Roads I legitimately liked and thought looked very Dwarven. Compared to DAO's, something just felt... off about the whole thing.

Unfortunately, without a PC version of both games I can't elaborate further using photos to illustrate what I mean. I'll be getting a PC version of DAO sometime soon though, so maybe later on.

I will say I liked how DAII handled lyrium veins in comparison to DAO's.

That.

That there will be unattractive elves? It happens. They can look fine when the character artists spend enough time on the faces - Merrill, Fenris, and the Keeper are evidence enough of that.

The Mother was a human broodmother. The broodmothers in DA:O were dwarves.

Can't wait to see qunari broodmothers.

Well, The Mother was a human broodmother, whereas the other ones we saw were all Dwarven.

Casting an awfully wide net there... Isabela? What about her? Neeshka had antlers (and a tail) and Ammon Jerro had glowing tattoos too. Dwarven jaws? Plastic plants?

The qunari improved; no doubt about that. And that voice of the Arishok............ Almost sexy

I personally loved the Deep Roads in Origins. They actually felt like a vast underground labyrinth, and I liked how they got more warped the closer you got to the darkspawn taint. Perhaps we just weren't down there for long enough to appreciate it in DA:2.

I'm aware of that, but if the "broodmothers" we see now look different, I'm suggesting maybe they look like crazy dwarven women (like the mother looked like a crazy human woman) rather than the bald beaked thing they were before.

I'd like orges to be blue again. Or at least built more like the DA:O orges. DA II orges had a sort of derpy look.

Except for the fact that outside of the Arishock, they were all copy/paste Total War style clone soldiers.

Absolutely agree. The change in art style was one of my top two biggest problems with DA2. (the other being the changes to the ability to initiate conversations). Yes, more important to me than recycled environments (which also sucked).

The only exception IMO was the qunari redesign. That worked really well except they all look like clones.

I really hope bioware go back to a realistic aesthetic for da3. But I lack confidence that they will tbh

Which has nothing to do with his point.
