I find this compelling. Is this Bioware-made? Who looks at this and says, "No, it needs more anime with pointy bits"?

If Dragon Age: Origins looked like that, people wouldn't have complained about the artstyle.

But it didn't look like that, it looked like this:

And this:

Then Bioware change it to this:

Success story of the millennium.

The Morrigan render in that wallpaper is literally copy pasted (the head and upper body at least) directly from in game in Origins. The only extra stuff going on is the crazy lighting and the fire on her hand.

Which is my contention with DA in the first place, that visually it mostly needs a major technical overhaul not the art. Its stuff like better textures, lighting, animations and so forth that needs drastic improvement, not necessarily the art which from Origins only needed tweaking.

I just hope to God they do another 180º turn in art style, regardless of Mike's statement from ages ago.

I thought the DA2 ogre did have better animations. The charge was more interactive, could run into things and stumble. The rock thrown actually looked more detailed, as well. The armor and face changes probably weren't the right way to go. The skin tone change by itself might have been fine.

Good to know that the environment isn't part of an image.

All of that I liked, especially the improvements on the charge. One of the things I disliked about DAO was how if I was out of the Ogre's way when he was preparing to charge, I still took damage.

I could be 5 feet behind him and taunting him and I'd still fly backwards.

The armor and face changes probably weren't the right way to go. The skin tone change by itself might have been fine.

The armor and face were definitely bad moves on Bioware's part.

And eh, the skin tone is something I hated as well. I prefer DAO's skin tone. The Ogres should be either completely purple or completely grey IMO, considering how Kossith -- horned Kossith, at any rate -- are completely grey.

Personally, I think the DA2 ogre looks closer to the Qunari than the DAO ogres. I like that. I want there to be a semblance of their origin within their design.

The meaning of this sentence is confusing to me.  Was it intended to be confusing?

I'd go with the purple of the DAO ogres.

I'm fine either way. Either way, it strikes me as appropriate for them.

I would agree, had the design been implemented well. Given the choice between an Ogre that's supposed to have a face that more closely resembles that of the Kossith -- but is smushed in the process -- and an Ogre that actually succeeded with its intended design -- even if it doesn't look like the Kossith -- I'll take the latter over the former.

DAO's Ogres' skin tone made me think more Kossith-like though, given the new design of the Kossith.

It's never my intent to confuse. I'd find that an insulting question, but then I recall that the internet is full of idiots who probably think being confusing is amusing or intelligent.

I think the sentence can be taken two ways:  Its good to know the enviroment isn't part of an image.  or  Isn't that laughable that envviroments isn't part of an image.

At this point I think any previous statements mean almost nothing. It sounds like they are going back to the drawing board. So hopefully your wish will come true!

I actualy liked DA2 artstyle.

The problem was lack of detail in the enviroments.

I thought most all of the elves in DA:O were ugly as sin as well. Shianni and Soris were the only ones that I thought were good-looking. I didn't even think that Zevran was good-looking in DA:O. I also think most of them are as ugly as hell in DA2, but there seemed to be a few more that I found attractive in that game (Merril, Fenris, the Keeper, and Orsino). I just don't agree with all of the posters on here that think the DA:O elves looked attractive.

It was a good idea to make them look less like humans with pointy ears.

I just hope we don't see these badly rendered things in Dragon Age 3

These silent, barely moving 2D Characters that were scattered around Kirkwall did not add life to the city.

The minute I saw that crowd of these lifeless 2D people waiting to getting into the city when my first Hawke landed in Kirkwall I had a bad feeling.

I agree that making them look more distinct was a nice idea but da2 elves were far from perfect too, if they want them to look good they must make a lot of polish.
i personally am not a big fan of the "make it more distinct!" idea , and besides that i would take a tolkien/witcher 2 elf anyday over a distinct elf, but i gues thats just my opinion. -forever alone- :crying:

Meh, that's what elves are.

I don't see that making them skinny humans with wierd noses and eyes is a big advantage.

Visually elves are humans with pointy ears. If you want to change that, then you need to do a better job than they did in DA2.

What you ended up with was something that looked like that thing from Harry Potter.
