Many of the weapons sounds are awesome(Finally a game with different gun sounds!), but the one that takes the cake is the Reaper noices, I LOVE them =)

For me the fusion of SFX and music in the masterpiece by Clint Mansell with Leaving Earth is simply the greatest piece of music I have ever heard.

The audio? Fantastic. The new theme/leaving Earth song was excellent, and the fact that they continued to weave in Vigil in the background of some of the scenes continues to be masterful. The sound effects themselves were also brilliant, and make some of the environments that little bit more immersive.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, glad you noticed the audio! We put a huge amount of work into making the audio as deep and immerse as possible. I think it was a result of a lot of things, the technology was pretty mature and meant we weren't fighting against it the whole time. We're also pretty familiar with the tech now too, so we weren't learning it anymore... but rather pushing it to it's limits. I also think that we as an audio team have got a lot better at what we do too, we're always learning!

As for the volume being quiet. Yes, this is the case and was a deliberate decision. It's hard to explain without drawing diagrams and playing examples.. but basically most games are loud because they compress and crush the sound to make it really loud. This actually has a negative effect on the audio quality, but when compared side-to-side with a quieter sound people will prefer the loud one. This is why television adverts are always really loud, same for music. As people tend to not play games side to side, I thought it would be safe to make the audio of higher quality without heavy compression and for people to turn the sound up. For more reading, look up 'loudness wars' :)

As for the orchestral recordings of the music. We did a few pick up sessions with individual instruments and voices (for example, the Krogan female pieces) but on the whole the music is not live. We'd planned on recording live but it's so incredibly difficult to fit this into the schedule given the Mass Effect team's 'iterative' working style, the shifting schedules and various other stuff. We'd still love to do live recordings, but we value more the ability to modify music late in the process... and if recorded live this is obviously not an option. Some of the best musical moments in the game were crafted right at the end of production when the game has really taken shape. The DA team have used live recordings and they sound fantastic, but their development methodology is slightly different to ME... you have to do what suits each project.

Thanks again everyone!

Props for getting to use uncompressed sound files!

The sound effects and music in this game are fantastic, absolutely amazing.

My only issue is having to turn the volume down before travelling through a relay - that sound effect is for some reason 800 million percent louder than every other sound in the game! Sometimes I forget about this, and forget to turn it down, and then all the car alarms in the street go off :(

Okay that's an exaggeration.

I also really like the music from the Press Start screen, but is isn't on the soundtrack I got with the Collector's Edition. Any chance of a release?

A trilogy soundtrack would actually be the best OST ever. Hopefully with all the remixes and my aforementioned "Reaper sounds", "Husk sounds", "Gun sounds", "Ship sounds" tracks.

Insta-buy.

The music was amazing that's for sure. Even if the ending sucked that song was damn beautiful. As for the sounds, I can't comment too much on guns specifically since I was always using singularity, slam, pull, etc. But I did enjoy the sounds those made :D

Superb job you did with everything audio related in game, the music was also very very engaging! And just a little, personal thing, that I loved, I think it was in ME2 but I really noticed more in this one, was the sound when you were out of clips... It was the same as the overheating in ME1 ;w; so much nostalgia.
And of course, the perfect work with the voices, not just from the VAs but from the audio team tweaking them, superb!

If I could vote only for sound in ME3 I would give a 10/10.
But only if I could ;)

A great compliment to the sound designers.

it's too quiet
the game runs like everything would be set at 70% of volume
beside that I like it, the sounds, whispers, voices... the only thing that bothers me is the guns - you dont feel the power in the sound

Oh yes, me loves the gun sounds in ME3, they feel kinda, huh. Complete? You hear that you're not firing a BB gun, you're shooting from a badass sniper rifle that doesn't just kill the Reapers, it makes holes in them. Yes, I'm looking at you, Black Widow.

Love it. The Reaper noises hurt my brain, in a good way. The guns sound powerful and the distant banshee screams in that monastary mission creeped me out.

The music was also excellent throughout, though I would've appreciated a couple more original pieces.

My only problem with the sound was whenever I jumped to another system, the sound of the Mass Relay always seemed to get louder, no matter what I did to my volume.

Sound was amazing, played the game with a big subwoofer, when that dreadnought exploded on earth, reaper taking it out, i felt it going through me as it tossed me off the building, music was amazing and well thought of, placement for sad moments and inspirational moments, ill have no choice then to give then sounds and music a 10/10

Yeah, the sound was awesome, for me it was the small
details that done it for me.

I can definitely say that audio is one of the areas ME3 trumped its predecessors. Everything from the way the guns sounded to the horrifyingly shrieking banshees to the musical score accompaniment was top notch.
