Going to start my second play-through, and I want to make a rogue who is not only untouchable, but does very hearty damage with dual daggers.

In short. . . I want to be a major dodgey, dagger doom prodding machine.

Do I go all into to Dex? Two into dex and one into cunning? Help me out here. Not playing a dwarf, gonna be human.

EDIT: On a side note: I don't mind an auto attacking machine rogue. : p If I can watch him wade in, dodge everything under the sun, and hack his foes apart. That'd make me more than delighted.

All dexterity makes you damn near invincible.

if youre gonna go all DEX (like 22 CUN, DEX all the way), forget backstabbing. youre better off enjoying the high attack rate and high defense.

Question is, are you the only rogue? If so, do you want to unlock every chest in the game?

If yes to both questions, you're going to need 30 CUN + lvl 4 lockpicking to unlock every chest. If not, you just need 16 for Coercion, or 22 for lvl 4 stealth. Rest goes to DEX, in either case.

Note that if you really want to Min/Max, you should have enough STR points from the fade in that +STR items would be enough to allow you to equip end-game equipment, so you don't need to add points here if you want to.

Lets pretend I am in the thick of combat. Not sure how much I'll rely on other party members. I'll take a look at the ancient thread in a sec. : p Odds are I probably read it, and it failed to answer my questions. I have been going through a lot of the threads already. Twenty pages worth.

So, moving on. . . Ugh. . . I could really care less about chests, I'll let Lelina do it. And what specializations should I take? The first poster said all DEX makes me damn near invincible. How is the DPS?

it's overall DPS. calculations are assumed to have 100% hitrate.

Look in the thread linked to. It shows that DEX dagger/dagger build is like third to the last, but still respectable at 85 dps via backstabbing (121 w/momentum).

As for specializations, if you want even more defense, Duelist is great. For your second, its a tossup between Assassin or Ranger, but considering you probably won't be running much CUN, I'd go Ranger since your pet would do more damage than the piddly amount you would get from expose weakness.

So I would go...

Origin: Dirty Fighting
1) Dual Weapon Sweep, Flurry
2) Momentum (if you can get tier 3 combat training this early, easy for those with CE)
3) Dual Weapon Training
4) Dual Weapon Finesse
5) Combat Movement
6) Dual Striking
Ostagar Talent) Riposte
7) Steath (take Duelist spec)
8) Coup de Grace
9) Stealthy item use
10) Combat Steatlh (by this time, you should finish Circle tower already, so you should meet its prereq)
11) Dueling
12) Master Stealth (add 2 points in CUN, since you'd only have 10 + 4 rogue + 1 human + 5 fade = 20 CUN)
13) Upset Balance
14) Keen Defense (take Ranger spec)

Assuming you did Redcliffe next and finished it already, and having enough money to buy both tomes...
Redcliffe Talent) Wolf pet
Physical Tome 1) Bear pet
Physical Tome 2) Spider pet

15) save
16) Pinpoint Striking and Master Ranger
17) Feign Death

Here on out, its up to you, as long as you don't take Evasion line since it sucks if you have high DEF already (game interrupts your attacks with evasion animation before it checks if you can avoid it through DEF, thus lowering your DPS). Also note DW Expertise makes you worse if you plan on using the DLC talent, so don't get it.

So what to spend on? One suggestion is...

18) Whirlwind
19) Below the Belt
20) Deadly Strike
21) Lethality (if only for the minor damage boost from using CUN instead of STR)
Landsmeet talent) Rapid Shot (with your sky high DEX, this is a one point wonder)
22) Cripple
23) Punisher

The bleed effect given by Expertise would be applied ON YOU as well if you use tainted blade, from what people have posted in the board.

That said, since you don't run much CUN anyways, you probably won't be using tainted blade since it has a pretty bad health drain. So yeah, go get Expertise (or even mastery) if you want to, since Cripple/Punisher sucks anyways. Just keep a note not to use tainted blade if you do get expertise.

I'm playing a new rogue myself and I've been doing 50/50 DEX/CUN with Lethality Bard/(Future)Assassin

I think its good because Assassin & Bards talents rely on cunning and so replacing STR w/ cunning instead is a great idea but I don't know if I should continue doing 50/50 or if I should do more dex than cun?

ohh. thats why I get a couple of red 1 damages aside from the -10 damage from Tainted Blade.

maybe this is a bug? i really don't see the point why you should get lacerate damage.

If you have a proper tank, then it's generally regarded that a min/maxed Bard/Assassin would only have 24 dex for momentum, and the rest is on CUN. You don't need defense from DEX if you have a proper tank, while CUN improves both your Bard AND Assassin's abilities.

Just make sure you invest in +Attack and/or +DEX/+stats gear, since your attack rate would be pretty low. Either that or sacrifice raw power by going 50/50 DEX/CUN in order to improve your hitrate.

So maybe 75% CUN 25% DEX then? Or possibly 60% CUN 40% DEX Though I will say that at this point (Lvl 11) Alistar is an incompetant fool (Somehow Morrigan keeps getting aggro) and I don't have Wynne yet

I want a dodgy auto attack killer. I'm going to try pumping all points into dex, getting evasion, and momentum. Armor is not a big worry for me since I plan on taking hits very rarely.

Evasion allegedly sucks , it makes you do an animation of dodging and thus wastes valuable attacking time and wastes its whole point of dodging

Trust me Vaeo, don't get Evasion. With your focus on DEX, you will already dodge 90%+ of attacks (if not closer to 100%). Getting at best 2% more dodges while not attacking for 20% of them is NOT a good tradeoff, especially when you have to spend a talent point for it.

@Tonya

A good compromise is to stop at 35 DEX for evasion, and the rest on CUN. Unlike DEX rogues, your rogue sucks at dodging, so evasion helps a lot in that matter.

That's what I did for my Leliana, and she sports 85% hit rate if I'm not mistaken.

DMG 6.40
Crit 4.80%
Armor Pen 8.00
Str mod 0.85
+3 cunning
+5% melee critical chance
+6 attack
+10% critical/backstab damage
+1 nature damage

Hmm .Thanks for that critical advice in regards to evasion. I am not going to do much talking, just super fast ass kicking and dodging. So even cunning is probably a waste for me. I guess. . . I haven't done any harm yet. After i get the dual wield skills, it's all play. : p

Hmm... interesting dagger. Much use for a CUN rogue since it helps their attack rating AND their cunning, but I don't see why a DEX rogue would use it over Thorn of the Dead Gods in offhand.

No but you could use Thorn of the dead Gods AND Fang at the same time PLUS Red Jenny Seekers gloves and have a psychotic +55% crit/backstab dmg

I'll be straight upping my mobs on a matter of being superior to them principle in the area of finesse. But +55% crits do sound loverly. : p

+crit damage is capped at 50% btw. Rose of Thorns is already +30% crit and +2 global damage (affecting both main and offhand), while Thorn of the dead gods is +3 global damage. Discobird's DW thread already maximixes +crit equips, and while I haven't run the calculations, I highly doubt that that dagger would replace either RoT or TotDG.
