I kind of like it. You know what it does? Makes me use Post-its all around my screen. I write down the sh!t I have to do, gathering info from the ME Wiki. Running around the galaxy is a pain. Having to use my brain when I'm supposed to be relaxing when I off work, that's ridiculous.

you should write a brief of every quest related conversation, just not to forget what is needed to be done.

Yeah, its unusable. It doesn't even remove quests that are now impossible to complete, meaning I spend about an hour trying to work out why I couldn't do the Elcor 'mission'.

The journal needs to be fixed, it's **** as how it is now.

It does not update when you get a item (artifact or something else). Quests don't update and i wonder what reason their was to leave it as how it is now.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 had a great system.

It is as it is becouse the game was rushed.

I'd say it was more of a development oversight.

Seems odd to slaughter a perfectly-functioning system in the third act even due to rushing. I don't know, it almost feels like they thought this was the way to go. No doubt it ties in with placing the Codex in there and the team thinking that was a great idea.

With all the fetch quests in the game you would think that the journal would at least keep you updated on which quest items you have.

I don't understand why the text couldn't update like the War Assets page did.

go to another floor, then go back and talk to the diplomat, if you already did the extraction he'll say thank you and it'll show as completed.

I think they botched the journal system on purpose as a way to push more people towards multiplayer as a way to raise EMS.

If that were true it would be a very sad thing for Bioware to do.  They've been around long enough to understand that not all players of their games enjoys or will even try multiplayer version (I'm one of those players that doesn't enjoy mp games) so regardless if they were trying to push people into MP or not, the journal system as it is would not force me into MP, but would leave a bad taste in my mouth the next time that I hear Bioware has released another game.

we have had 2 major SP DLC and numerous MP DLC... if it hasn't been fixed by now, it never will be.
I dont get their way of thinking. **** up the franchise with inconsistant story line, an incomprehensible ending, **** up the Journal system, yet still release 2 (****) "Major Story" DLC and fix nothing? (The EC doesnt count as it was as **** as the release ending)

If nothing else, can you please fix your journal/mission log? It's like 3 steps back.

Mass Effect 1 had a more intuitive and accurate system for tracking mission progress and information. This would be a simple patch job compared to the other complaints, so please release it in some future update.

Agreed

I agree with this. I think Bioware should have stuck with the ''If it ain't broke don't fix it'' approach. The journal system was perfect as it was in ME1 and ME2

I'm also curious to know if it can be fixed, and if it can't, why.

Yes, the Journal is one of the worst I have seen in games recently. Please improve it next time - Journal shouldn't become less useful as the series progresses.

I thought Demiurge did a great job porting Mass Effect 1 to the PC. Far better than Bioware actually did making 2 and 3 for the platform.
