What humours me the most is that the entire time its using a resource (that squeak the space hamster makes -- I think it might be one of the people that worked on it) from the original Baldur's Gate or Baldur's Gate II game -- I forget which... I don't have either installed at the moment.

Makes me chuckle warmly each time I hear it.

Dark.

Yup me too :) Annnd..the events in BG happened AFTER ( oh yes they did, don't try to tell me otherwise) ME3. Boo because of ( insert scientific explanation here ) escaped and is now forever safe with Minsc.

Everyone does realize the space hamsters were the ones running the show all along, right? Shadow Broker information? Feed to Liara by the hamsters. Reapers and star child? Controlled by the hamsters. That hum in the normandy? Space hamster's spaceship.

Of course no one is meant to know this and if the space hamster's find out I'm telling yo ad;ksfjn v ,cgmv.xmcvbmn

The only reason Boo was event out was because Joker couldn't fly the ship and save Shepard at the end of the suicide mission. Nobody that came back could fly the ship, leaving it to the only obvious choice. Boo. You can picture the little guy at the holographic controls saving everyone's butt.

So Kelly went ahead and 'took care' of all my fish while I was in custody, yet she leaves the hamster?

Thanks Kelly.

Actually, there was a line we had to cut due to line-count budgets where she commented on trying to get the hamster, but he escaped and ran off. Kelly couldn't find him in time and was still worried about him.

Really wish you including it in some shape or form, it would have been a nice bit of detail. :(

An email would've been nice.

Line-count budgets?  Are there price rates per line a character gets in a game?  I always just presumed a contract was signed and a flat fee was agreed upon or something as straight forward as that.  I really don't know now.  I would like to know how this works.  Anyone got an explanation?

Maybe the term means to reference how sometimes the code gets all mad when you try to put too much stuff in.  For example, if a character model has too much stuff, certain items in it will get removed.  In this situation there wasn't enough poly-count budget.  So, basically, it could have been a situation where either this line gets cut or "That was for Thane, you b******!"  At least, that's my theory.  Easy to understand that budget could mean code budget rather than money budget, if that is true.  I spent about ten minutes trying to explain the term canon in a literary sense as compared to a boom boom cannon to a co-worker...he still didn't get it.

What exactly is a "line-count budget?"

What exactly is a line-count budget? Like the actors can only read a certain amount of lines?

EA said there are too many lines and it's too expensive. always the same... like with the cupcakes "youth shelter" actually means "EA Headquaters"

hmmm makes me skeptical about the me3 development, lol i mean its not liek me3 is one of those games that will just scrape by on sales. I mean if you litterally couldnt fit these extra dialogues on the disc then thats fair enough but not being able to budget for a few lines of dialogue soundz like Bioware were properly feeling the squeeze on the budget lol + I think space hampster dailogue would have gone down alot better than star child lol you should have had a hologram of space hamster rather than the kid lol

Aha! That must be the same reason my Shep didn't get a chance to ask the Catalyst any questions! Tricksy budgets...

what it should have been is, when shepard meets kelly on the citadel she says,
KELLY:Oh! i got all your fish here ,I'll send them back to your ship"
SHEP:"thanks kelly, much appreciated"
KELLY: I couldn't find the hamster though it escaped"
Shep : dont worry kelly i'll get a new one"
KELLY:you could stroke my hamster if you want"

Some of these lines + extra crew interactions etc really really need to be added as a DLC patched so they come up through the game as we are playing. It's sad to have so many things like that cut :(

   Technical limiations, or "order from above"? Anyway, the fat that Kelly did save the fish and that the hamster can be caught again is :-)

Extra lines would be great. I would love it if a patch came out that at least made the characters turn and face you when you speak to them. Maybe even throw in a facial expession or two, and some hand gestures. Not really fond of talking to imanimate objects

Hi - I've cut this from a post I did in the suggestions for changes thread:

The Space Hamster.

Please
can it do just one more thing other than creep out, stand up against the
glass then run back? And can I please name it? Better yet, if you are
really enamoured (sic - I'm Australian) in the idea of choice = no
choice (sorry - really couldn't help myself!) have it creep out then run
back, then Shep says: "Timid little thing, aren't you? Think I'll call
you Boo."  C'mon Bioware, you KNOW you want to!!!!!!!!   ( I assume
having a planet somewhere called 'Minsc' that is where the space
hamsters come from is just a bit too infra dig?). (Can we vote on this?
... Ayes/ Eyes - so har... d ... mu..st  stop   sel..f ..!!! .....

So, what do you think; we can make a movement for 'Boo from the Planet Minsc'? And of course we already have Tali in ME2 telling her attack drone "Go for the eyes!". Er, now I can't remember what she named it.....  was it Chiquita?

I always had extra Credits in ME2, so I bought all the fish, the models, and the hamster. But I named him something else :(

And then someone had to go and strewn my models all over the ship, my fish were gone (I rebought them, I believe), and my hamster was running around engineering! Dang you Kelly! *Shakes fist* I flirted with you for nothing! (no, not true... though I always felt...weird talking to her for some reason)

Ok, now hold on... You cut out dialogue because it would have exceeded your line count budget? The Mass Effect games have a line count budget? Or more to the point When do RPG's ever have a line count budget? That just seems really stupid in my opinion.

I'm sorry but really? Line count budgets?

When you are talking to your significant other, can you say: "Sorry I have exceeded my line count budget."? :innocent:

I personally thought it was kind of funny all your old model ships were strewn about throughout the Normandy. XD

And how on Earth does that happen?

The refit crew grabs stuff from Shepard's cabin and plays space battles after hours?

"Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!"

I'm sad to say I spent about 15 minutes chasing that hamster around before I was able to catch it.

Then I told my husband during his play through, "Go down the stairs outside of engineering! I want to see how long it takes you to catch the hamster!"

And then he caught it in like 15 seconds.

On another note, did you notice that in ME2 Tali will say to her combat drone, "Go for the optics, Chiktikka! Go for the optics!"?

I kinda missed that too. I also missed whenever my squadmates would compliment me for getting headshots.

Yeah I miss all the combat dialog too. Especially Garrus'. "Scoped and dropped!" "I love this rifle."
