Hi everyone. I have a question. Can I save Thane in Mass Effect 3 if you didn't romance him? I'm a guy so I didn't romance him but I like him as a character so I wonder if there was an option so save him if you did romance him. Thanks!

Welcome to the drell side Raikoh. Yep. Thane bites it every time, no matter what. No option, no choice, no save, and no different dialogue.

Woop!

Sadly, I wouldn't even call it a blaze of glory. More like a death contrary to everything he was in ME2.

But yes, bw demands it.

@Squee....I missed you.

If you'd at least like to see him before he dies, make sure you talk to him when he emails you. You'll get a conversation and be able to see him die. If you don't, he'll just die off-screen.

Thanks! Well, that's not right. They should've had that option. Even I get an option to save Tali from dying.

Ugh...I wanted him to live, not die.

Welcome to bw, realm of romance inequity and blatant favouritism.

yeah i know. sarcasm is hard to express in words.

dude, i think it's cool that you want to save him. i haven't come across too many people who didn't romance him wanting an option. it's kinda a breath of fresh air.

I liked the way they handled Thane, he was awesome. Even terminally ill and in his last throws he still manages to fight Kai Leng off. Then the prayer at the end, one of the coolest scenes imho. I play as a straight male Shep though so I don't have an opinion on him as a LI.

So if you avoid talking to him he dies anyway? And... offscreen?

Darn. :(

He did say he was dying right from the moment you met him.

Thane's only purpose in life was to die as tragically as possible to emotionally engage us.

What? No one, except Thanemancers, didn't want him to live? Not cool.

Cool, I checked it out and I will follow it. I didn't know that all the ME2 romances had it bad. I romanced Tali and my only complaint is the stock photo.

Welcome to this forum, here the romancers and the unromancers are in an epic battle over what should have happen with Thane. You... being the first of your kind... will find yourself in a very special spot in our world. lol.

@Straw_foot...you could have beaten KL with Samantha's shoes (stolen from Frozen83, thanks!). What kind of "threat" has to hide behind a gunship?

@Lucky...yeah well, bw failed at that too. Bad scripting does not equal "die as tragically as possible to emotionally engage us." The only tragedy here was the writing, or lack thereof.

@Raikoh...welcome!!!

Yep, providing Kirrahe (sp?) is alive, otherwise either a random STG deals with it or the Councilor dies and you lose war assets.

Of course there's a way to save him.....silly gooses!
Step 1) Put ME2 in the gaming device of your choice
Step 2) Play ME2. Recruite Thane, successfully do his LM, and either romance him or exhaust all dialogue as a friend. (at this point it becomes pretty obvious he would rather live, should the option be there).
Step 3) Kill dem blasted Collectors, and enjoy the glory!
Step 4) Walk away from your gaming device of choice and never look back......till an unrelated IP comes out, captures your attention, and you blissfully play that game.

what.......too sour?

That's what I did, I went back to my last ME2 game save and put Thane back up in Shep's cabin.  Saved and closed.  And that is the end of my Shep's story.

ha ha. That's funny. Btw, is there a thread where I can go to to discuss this?

Yes, yes, please join us. We need more "friends of Thane". No just us squee-ers. We are really quite normal
:
:
usually. *insert rapeface/Sheploo here*

Actually, my first Shep was male and totally bonded with Thane. He don't take kindly to Thane bein' killed off by a cereal-eatin' ninja hack....nup!
