Biggest Let Down =/= Worst Game of the Year

Actually it is. If you expect something to be great but are disappointed that is worse than if you expect something to be bad and are right, even if it might objectively be better.

Wait...it's not fake?

Oh god it's not.

It's not even bad because of the blatant rip off.

...But N7 armor looks downright hideous compared to most other SE armor. Why the hell would they downgrade?!?

You need better opinions. FFX is one of the better FF's and FFXIII-2 is not nearly "worst game of the year" quality. It's hardly special, but it isn't rubbish either.

Wow, chill.

Christ.

Also, Noel is the farthest thing from emo. Did you even play the game? (tbh N7 Armour really doesn't look that out of place depending on the time period.) Interestingly enough, the main opinion on this DLC from the FF fans point pretty much amounts to "meh that's cool I guess" from what ive seen so why the hell are we overreacting like this?

I have no idea about any FF game. but unless BioWare comes up with a REALLY GOOD fix for the endings, the title "worst game of the year" is already taken by Mass Effect.

Because of the last five minutes.

No matter how invested you are in the story of the characters, IF YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT, THEN YOU NEED TO SORT OUT YOUR PRIORITIES.

Nobody, but NOBODY, judges such an all-encompassing thing as "worst game of the year" based on something as contained and specific as an ending.

agreed.

as far as I remember, ME3's characters were as awesome and deep as in both firsts games, the gameplay was fun and it was interresting. it may deserve a prize for its ending being a massive letdown. but I can't give a bad mark to this game based on 5 mins. as far as I know, ME3 still deserve a solid 8.5 outa 10 from me.

I have to admit, its kinda pathetic seeing people under the deluded impression that SE making a costume for their game took away resources from ME3. I think my eyes are rolling so much they resemble a slot machine in action.

If anything it's good for BioWare/EA that stuff like this happens, since quite apart from taking resources from BioWare/EA, all of the development cost for the costume pack (which isn't much, really) was likely dealt with by Square. They would then pay for the right to have the N7 armor in their game, and the profits from the DLC would be split between Square and BioWare/EA. And the best part? All it likely took on EA/BioWare's part was however long it took to hand over the armor/texture assets they ALREADY HAD to Square so they could implement the costume pack.

Quick, painless, and cheap. Rather like the costume pack itself, really.

If the ending is basically "lol all your effort doesnt matter, f*ck you", then yes, it should be judged based on that

But of course there is also things like:
- too much autodialogue
- too little side missions, and crappy ones at that (eavesdropping and scanning, basically)
- the scanning
- collecting war assets as a timesink
- mandatory multiplayer, if you want the perfect ending (IN SPITE OF BIOWARE PROMISING THE OPPOSITE)
- continual dumbing-down of RPG elements; admittedly the shooter elements were improved in return but they are still bad compared to CoD, Crysis, Halo and other GOOD shooters.
- bad class balance
- lack of any real improvements / innovation compared to ME2

It is just that these faults are ignored for the sake of the story. But they are still there.

I'd pay for that kinda thing, actually.

A Lightning costume for EDI and FemShep, a Snow costume for Vega and Maleshep, a Sahz costume for Garrus, a Hope costume for the dream-child (LOLZ), a Serah costume for Liara, a Fang costume for Ashley, and just for spits and giggles, a Vincent Valentine costume for Javik.

oh I've got nothing agains't that... Square Enix can waste its money anyway they want, I know there's none of mine into that... What I dislike is the idea behind it that makes no sense... it's a commercial for Mass Effect while being... a Pay to use DLC... It's not even fan service because Japanese FFXIII-2 players don't give a f*ck about ME3...

And that fact that it is SOOO poorly made. because it has no subtlety or adaptation...

No, it shouldn't.

Fact. Not even being obnoxious by saying that. Any game, book, or movie critic worth his salt knows that such broad statements can only be credibly made when you consider the WHOLE PICTURE. If you think you know better, feel free to delude yourself; just don't be surprised when people respond with statements like, "Um... no. Just, no."

But of course there is also things like:
- too much autodialogue
- too little side missions, and crappy ones at that (eavesdropping and scanning, basically)

Neither of those is something you'd expect of most games, whether you expect them of Mass Effect or not. So as much as I agree with the first point (I was rather fond of how the N7 and side-story missions were handled, personally, and the eavedropping/scanning fetch quests were no more abhorrent than the typical run-around-the-towns-doing-speechquests RPG stuff that littered ME1 and popped up on occasion in ME2; the only issue I had was how unhelpful the Journal was), this isn't nearly enough to justify the "worst game of the year" label being used so casually. There are WAY worse games out there.

- the scanning

Barely even there. It's more like a hybrid of the planet-scanning in ME2 and the "survey" system in ME1, really.

- collecting war assets as a timesink

...A timesink that's about six hundred orders of magnitude less of a timesink than the timesinks in the first two games. You know, I think it may have taken a grand total of half an hour out of the entire thirty-plus hours I played the game!

Gameplay-wise, the RPG elements have been stepped up from ME2. I consider that side a good balance between what ME1 tried to accomplish and what ME2 was going for. The RPG elements were only dumbed down in the dialogue-choice department, so this point is redundant since you've already mentioned that.

- bad class balance
- lack of any real improvements / innovation compared to ME2

I find class balance adequate in single-player. Can't speak for multiplayer; only played it for two days with the free pass I got with the game, just enough for Achievement completion.

Respectfully disagree with the second point. The gameplay is far superior to ME2, as are the environments and as is the customization. If you're looking for a complete gameplay overhaul with every sequel, you're going to be bashing a lot of sequels.

It is just that these faults are ignored for the sake of the story. But they are still there.

Still not enough to negate my point, serah.

I just want to punch them in the face for being so disrespectful to the uniform by simply wearing it...

1, ,2 ,6, , 9, and tactics. I dislike (hate is always to strong a word when refering to videos games) the rest.

And this I really dont care about.  Somebody knocked this out in a work day or two. Its there for those that want it.

Hell I have A N7 hoodie and I dont even want to go into the rant I got from some jerk on the subway last week. About how supporting BioWare is destroying gameing...
