With Mass Effect making the change it begs me to believe that gaming is headed towards making multiplayer the main prority rather than making an epic single player?

Completely agree with the guy. ME3 MP is a pointless attempt at a moneygrab. Its hurt the single player game, cause the ending sucks.

LMFAO. We are already there buddy. Look around...1 out of 15 games is a single player priority and now even THOSE games get some lame pointless annoying MP aspect forced into them.

It'll pass as a trend..that is, if people voice their preference and stop mindlessly buying **** that's gowing downhill and does nothing for them..Then again, I know people playing mmos they absolutely don't enjoy and all they do is complain about how bored they are when they're logged on. But, they're still there, nevertheless and paying for it.

I hope that single player games will still have some life in the future. I don't like competitive multiplayer.

Considering the game mechanics and the use of a squad, the addition of multiplayer was a no brainer. Besides it's a lot of fun, and I doubt it took long to implement. All the maps are from the single player campaign.
They shouldn't have made it influence single player though. As for the ending, it sucks no matter what.

I agree I prefer single player games myself as I generally perfer playing alone I doubt single player games will die off completely as not everyone can get online to play multiplayer I never play online and to be honest I can't ever see myself ever doing so mainly because generally not that good a player and with the majority of my games I play on the easiest level I generally play games to entertain myself not others with how rubbish I am.
I only have an internet connection on my desktop to satisfy the stupid DRM|'s that aer being put on games and bolcking genuine copies of games from working on a computer that dosen't have a connection

I made the admission that I was an internet addict at one point. MMOs are a horrible way to waste a life. When you have over a year or two in in-game played time and you're only 27, you start to rethink things. I was lucky to have an ONLINE friend help me quit mmos after he saw my outbursts and depression IN GAME. He directed me to playing action games as they didn't have so much of the psychological carrot-on-stick mechanics. That helped me not want to rush back to my computer so much anymore. It wasn't until I started playing single player games that I was finally able to break the chain and get my life back. I like to game but with the addition of Multiplayer and RPG style acheivements... it's too tempting to my former addiction for me to even want to get near it.

The phenomenal success of Skyrim would appear to indicate otherwise, despite what some publishers may believe.

I really sucked at Multiplayer games.. I tried BF3 & MW3.. Dota 2.. i sucked.. People saying im a noob.. Yes Im a noob. Lots of them are shouting at me. Some of them takes it very seriously.. some players who play online dont know how to talk to people.. Everyone need to start from somewhere ryt. Everyone sucked at the Beginning. I really stopped playing Dota 2. I rarely Play Mw3.. Only game Im playing IS BF3.. Earlier this month I started Playing ME1.. Wonderful story. great Singleplayer RPG.. Now Im playing Mass effect 2.. Loved the game.. Still playing.. So far Very good.. After I finished ME2 I'll Buy ME3... I dont know anything about ME3 Multiplayer.. Anyway Point is we dont need Multiplayer games. Give Us a Good Single player game with a good Story . we all buy.. as Gloops1 say Skyrim is a good example.. another one is witcher 2.. multiplayer is boring & its always the same

this trend started with PSO, going online means being able to track platyers and reduce piracy. as in some other companies it requires a product-key to play. esp in SEA; the main gold mine are MMOs not consoles. it's no surprise most is following this trend

eh. So what. Multiplayer is more fun anyway. Good AI, lol. Why are you setting equation multiplayer != epic? MMOs are quite epic. In fact they are much much better at creating epic stuff. Try to beat a boss with 100 people, i can tell you thats very epic, singleplayer is a joke after that.Brenden wrote...

also games are heading where the money is. I mean we already deal with console ports. -.- even though playing a shooter type game on a console does make little to none sense.

1) They're cheaper and easier to make
2) They have more opportunities to get at the player's wallet over and over
3) They're much harder to pirate
I think the game companies will push to MP as much as they can. I won't go there because it's just repetitive button-mashing, but it seems like a lot of people enjoy that.
The MMOs are the way to get a more varied experience rather than the deathmatch/team/horde thing. But it's still mostly grinding and repetitive anyway.
I'd probably be better off if they all went that way, I could use my time more productively rather than playing hours of games every week.

Online multiplayer has absolutely zero appeal. With the exception of Portal 2 I've never bought a game with it in yet and since I still haven't bothered with it in Portal 2 I can't see that I ever will if it becomes a significant "must do" part of the game. Multiplayer can be fun in RW company, as shown by a lot of the popular Wii titles, but if I want to play a computer game with my wife or a friend I can't think of anything more depressing than having to buy a second copy of the bloody thing and sit at opposite ends of an internet connection. Maybe it's an age thing but screw that, we'd much rather go to the trivia quiz night at the pub. Real, live human company, and also nobody calls anyone a n00b for not knowing what year Queen Victoria died.

I would have loved if ME3 had couch co-op.

Wow, can you imagine that as a 1-3 player so you could have a mate playing each squadmate? Never mind ME3, if they could remake the first game with that feature that'd be awesome.Rojahar wrote...
