I exclusively play FemShep, so that's where all this is coming from. I have no idea how James interacts with ManShep, and to be frank, I really don't care.
Anyway, I was initially disappointed that Vega wasn't a possible love interest in the latest installment, but I have since changed my mind about the matter. Although Vega and Shepard both flirt back and forth over the course of the game, it's good to see a healthy female-male relationship that doesn't ultimately have to be physical. The main thing that brought me to this conclusion is the companion interactions in BIoWare's MMORPG, The Old Republic.
All of my male companions in SW:TOR instantly hit on me whenever we talk and immediately try to get inside my knickers. I don't find that appealing, interesting, or even acceptable, especially as a Jedi. It has actually made me dislike a considerable amount of the companions in that game, but the same is certainly not true for Vega. Shepard and Vega have a playful, friendly relationship that I now find quite welcoming while playing through the game. They share a good deal of personal moments such as James' pending invite to the N7 programme, him getting his new tattoo, and him telling Shepard about losing his team to the Collector's.
Vega's also a funny guy and I like his character a lot. I think he was a great addition to the Normandy. Anyone else feel the same way about the Shepard-Vega relationship?

I wish there was less auto-flirting, that's the only part about Vega that gets me. Aside from that, I think he's a fun character, but they really could've done a bit more with him.

I agree that the auto-flirt can be a little out of character for some Shepards, but I feel like there's a lot of that in this game.
As for the character, there isn't too much chit-chat, and I'd like to see more. I go down to the armory/shuttle bay to talk to him and Cortez, but it seems like Cortez has more conversations than Vega does. They're both great characters, though.

If they had taken away the auto-flirts and made them optional, then I agree OP. Personally, I wanted him as an RI, but I can see why it may have been annoying for some.

Loved it when I took him to Eden Prime and he asks Liara if she ever dug up any dinosaurs and she goes all "I'm and archeologist not a paleontologist are two entirely different things and ah... You're joking" then James goes.. Hey I like dinosaurs

He calls her Lola. I thought he was saying "Lela" for a while, which is a way of saying "crazy" in Spain. I was disappointed to find out otherwise lol
