Yeah, if that's true, then I have purchased my last BioWare product.  Sad, sad day.  My wife'll be happy at least - 99% of my gaming is BioWare products, so I'll have no excuses to avoid the dishes anymore.

Does this guy realize George Lucas made all those "crappy" revisions to star wars?

Re: OP

I'm tired of this BS argument. Where was all this protest about artistic integrity when BioWare asked -- begged, pleaded -- for customer feedback since the first version of this game came out in 2007? Five years ago, folks: for five years the company has presented this as a collaborative effort. Where were protests all these years that BW was compromising its artistic vision?

It's gotten to where every time I hear somebody say "art" I hear "intellectual property rights" and "my chance to make a buck too."

You know I had no idea Bioware was actually some kind of artist's retreat, here I thought they just sold software and $80 dollar hoodies.

If the Mona Lisa originally had a dong for a nose and a vast majority went "ya know man, this is great, but that dong for a nose ruins the whole painting, we'd really like you to get rid of that as you promised us no dong noses, can you do that please?" would you say art has been lost?

Read the codex and finish the game first. It's not just about the ending, it's about countless plotholes and broken promises.
Also, this is not a painting, or a book, or a movie. This is a game. This is a game where we were promised that our every single choice would "affect the outcome".This is  a game that the ending wouldn't be as A,B,C.
Hah...And the worst part is, they didn't even care to present the ending as that. They did it like this: A ,A ,A.
Besides, if bioware does change the ending with a DLC, then don't buy it.Nobody is forcing you to do so.You don't have to buy everything bioware throws at you,no?That way, you'll be happy, I'll be happy, we'll all be happy and go on our merry ways. Image IPB

It's art but it's also a product for consumers to buy. If the art makes the consumers unhappy they have a choice; keep their artistic vision or their revenue. Talk to artist out there and some of them will say they had to do art that they didn't like to make ends meet at one point or another.

And it's only a several minute portion of the game, that's not changing a lot especially since most people would be happy with at least closure and no Normandy crash (unless they make DLC for the Normandy that's well made and can explain some of the plotholes).

Before you say "Don't change the ending", reach the ending and see it for yourself first.
You're speaking of something you have no idea about, OP. :/

The whole art(istic integrity) argument is irrelevant. Cute, perhaps not without merit, but altogether irrelevant.

Brass tacks, it's all about money. If internal studies show that giving the disgruntled segment of their fanbase what they're asking for will result in greater profit than ignoring it and banking on the fickle nature of consumers, Casey and Mac will eat their words and produce new or alternate endings faster than you can say "God save the Queen".

BioWare is a business; Electronic Arts doubly so, to the point that I'm willing to bet they're actually the textbook definition of a business. For a business, the bottom line is the only thing that matters. Everything else is window dressing, specifically designed to protect and/or increase the bottom line.

Still a better than Mass Effect 3's ending.

Let me quote something for you sir(op).

A lot of detractors of theRetake Mass Effect movement say that fans shouldn’t have any say in how the ending of story is told, and that those that complain about the ending are entitled brats. The phrase they like to pull out is Ray Muzyka, used this term artistic integrity to defend the ending in his statement.

But allow me to counter:No one with any artistic integrity would have let that absolute debacle of an ending be released. No one. The ending was so inexcusable on so many levels, that I can’t help but laugh at people’s attempts to defend it by calling it art. As if Art were not subject to ridicule and criticism.

Thanks for the link, that's a nicely written summary of how epic the failure of the final act truly is. It still boggles my mind and leaves me scratching my head every time I try to imagine a dev meeting at BW discussing the possible endings. Did not one person there raise a hand and say "Gee guys, I dunno, this ending is kinda out of left field and probably isn't going to go over too well with anyone who has actually, youi know, paid attention to the rest of the story we've established so far. Maybe we should give this a re-think?" Perhaps someone did, and the reponse was SILENCE MINION, WE ARE CREATING ART, ART I SAY. Would love to have been a fly on the wall when all these decisions were being made.

Or this is the biggest 'gotcha' of all time and they are going to roll out a mind blowing, crowd pleasingly epic conclusion. Yeah.

Art hasn't lost if they change the ending by saying that you also say no artwork can be reimaged or improved upon which is BS artist always rework their things in most field even those who paint they'll tweak or outright change their sketches when painting the item because it will be improved.

Art was lost the moment they decided to rush the game to meet the release date. If you can't be bothered to delay the final product so that it becomes perfect then you no longer get to call it a work of art.

I'm so tired of this "its art" argument that I'm sick of the damn tagline.
people saying "don't give up your artistic entigrity"  And "your acting like whiny entitled crybabys"

At this point Art sounds like an insult to me.
If its art its untouchable to scrutiny apperantly and we should be ashamed we said anything negative about it.

They lost the right to use "artistic integrity" as a defence when they released same day Dlc on an unfinished game.

Video games aren't art, they're a life stealing addiction, endings have been changed before and they'll be changed again.

Besides, BioWare aren't changing the ending, they're adding content for closure. Retake hasn't won yet and is claiming a false victory.

Listen, I haven't even finished the game yet, been travelling, but please read on.

I do check IGN's mobile site from my phone here and there and have learned about this "uprising" to change the ME3 ending.

PLEASE, PLEASE, Please do not change the game's ending (sight unseen for me) just because of these protests!

If you do, where do we go from there??

We live in such a self-entitled "please me" society these days.  BIOWARE, you made these games.  I understand the need to please your customers - I myself am in the service industry.  But PLEASE do not fold to the demands of the loud social networking / internet crowd.  It will set a dangerous precedent.

Even within the realm of video games... NOOO... we want character "X" (FFVII) to live...

...NOOO... we want character "X" to survive in Halo Reach....

Where will it stop?

DO NOT alter your art.  Look at the state of the Star Wars series with all the crappy revisions over the years.

Tell your player base to "DEAL WITH IT" ...

I've read TONS of books that I hoped ended differently. never wrote to the author of a book and demanded he or she rewrite the ending to meet my demands.

On that topic, one very good author wrote a book about that situation.  It was Stephen King, and the book was "Misery".  The woman found her favorite author crippled and kept the author all locked up and in his bed and would re-break his legs b/c she was never happy with what he was doing with her favorite character.

Dont' fall down this wormhole, BIoWare.   Please don't.  You made the art which is Mass Effect 3.  Don't alter it due to some loudmouth advocates.  Not all video games are "art", but the Mass Effect series certainly is.  To quote a line from my favorite movie, Rushmore... "nihilne sanctum est"...  "Is nothing sacred?"

Do the right thing, BioWare.

A big fan of yours for years....

Jason

OP finish the game. Otherwise your argument stands invalid. You can't talk about it unless you witness it with your own eyes. If by the end, you still feel satisfied and you still feel that the art defense is valid, come and rewrite your points.

Look when you see the ending you will undoubtfully want some explainations, like every sane man in that situation. I don't support changing the endings, or even adding new ones. But I do think the current endings do require some clarifications to WTH went on there. The things we saw, they weren't "fridge logic" where only awhile after you realize they don't make sense. They didn't make sense when I saw them in the first place. Bioware needs to be very carefull, and make some very detailed and reasonable explainations, making explaination involving space magic or anything else that gives a "pulled out of ass" vibe would only make these fire a whole lot bigger.

About the point where you wouldn't expect someone to change a movie/book ending.
I'll spend probably under £10 on a book or movie ticket and spend a few hours max with it so if its ending is bad then no big loss.
If i have spent £120+ on all the games and DLC and easily 150+ of game time then i think that i am allowed to complain about an ending.

MASS EFFECT 3

}(+){

-dialogue choices are lot less but differ greatly compared to rest of the trilogy
-better controls(cover usage, running, tumbles)
-character relationship feels more alive( both between crew members and shep with his/her LI )

}(-){

-story is silly (that crucible **** is so dumb)
-tailored for multiplayer
-retarded and uninteresting sidequests(eavesdropping)
-plot of other trilogy games was changed for some retarded( or just extremely bad executed) technological singularity idea
-despite refusing they still failed with day one dlc, as to there is no reason to not include such valuable content in the game
-reapers are dumb (oh hi dere Sovereign)
-Cerberus and TIM storywise potential is COMPLETELY WASTED
-retarded antagonist (that asian assassin is so retarded, i almost felt like i was watching some stupid anime)

thats not all
