Sir Author Conan Doyle altered his "art" and guess what? People loved it and he became more popular.
BioWare, if you change the ME3 ending "art" has lost

I'm one of those peoples, I have not whined, I have no demanded anything. I only countered the logical fallacies I saw in the OP.
Seeing as your original post dealt in absolutes with no gray inbetween, you are the most close-minded out of everyone in this thread.

Listen, I haven't even finished the game yet, been travelling, but please read on.
I do check IGN's mobile site from my phone here and there and have learned about this "uprising" to change the ME3 ending.
PLEASE, PLEASE, Please do not change the game's ending (sight unseen for me) just because of these protests!
If you do, where do we go from there??
We live in such a self-entitled "please me" society these days. BIOWARE, you made these games. I understand the need to please your customers - I myself am in the service industry. But PLEASE do not fold to the demands of the loud social networking / internet crowd. It will set a dangerous precedent.
Even within the realm of video games... NOOO... we want character "X" (FFVII) to live...
...NOOO... we want character "X" to survive in Halo Reach....
Where will it stop?
DO NOT alter your art. Look at the state of the Star Wars series with all the crappy revisions over the years.
Tell your player base to "DEAL WITH IT" ...
I've read TONS of books that I hoped ended differently. I never wrote to the author of a book and demanded he or she rewrite the ending to meet my demands.
On that topic, one very good author wrote a book about that situation. It was Stephen King, and the book was "Misery". The woman found her favorite author crippled and kept the author all locked up and in his bed and would re-break his legs b/c she was never happy with what he was doing with her favorite character.
Dont' fall down this wormhole, BIoWare. Please don't. You made the art which is Mass Effect 3. Don't alter it due to some loudmouth advocates. Not all video games are "art", but the Mass Effect series certainly is. To quote a line from my favorite movie, Rushmore... "nihilne sanctum est"... "Is nothing sacred?"
Do the right thing, BioWare.
A big fan of yours for years....
Jason
Ahh, Mass Effect will be worth more after Bioware closes shop! Here here for art! Nothing is sacred...the game highlights that point quite well...in a colorfully artistic fashion I might add.

You know, of art actually being changed/altered to please fans:
Bethesda's Fallout 3 Broken Steel DLC (altered the ending)
InFamous 2's change of Cole McGrath's...eh....uniform I guess, prior to release. (Changed to a more urban/grunge look due to fan backlash)
Ubisoft's Prince of Persia (2008) addition of "Epilogue DLC" that expanded the current "dreary" end for a more "upbeat" one.
It's also happened in various other forms of art.
Movies: George Lucas' orginal title for his third installment to the original Star Wars trilogy was going to be Revenge of the Jedi. But due to fan complaints that revenge is a negative emotion, hence goes against Jedi precepts/beliefs, it was changed to RETURN of the Jedi
Books: Right we have Sherlock Holmes already in here, but did you know that J.K. Rowlings originally suggested that the last book would kill either or both Harry Potter AND Ron? Fans talked her out of that.
Comic Books: Always bring back a hero or villain to suit their current storylines. In the Comic business it's called a "retcon"
And here's the big shocker:
Art/Paintings: Artist Édouard Manet altered his Le dÉjeuner sur l'herbe (The Luncheon on the Grass) by adding in a background image of a partially clothed woman after initial reaction to the piece made it highly controversial to the public at large.
The big question is of course: If this had been simply, as various "professionals" try to spin it, a very vocal minority, would they have even changed their works in the first place?
Thank you and have a nice day.

They obviously didn't achieve that the first time. Art loses if the endings stay the same... the art dies as it is now...
That "save the art/don't change the endings" stuff falls flatly on its face.

There are no more Star War moives coming because fans hated the direction George Lucas went with it let alone what he did with Indiana Jones. On the record, his best movie was one he didn't direct.
Games are really stories and good stories can only be considered art after people say it's good enough to be considered art.
As it stands it's just a portrait of the Virgin Mary painted with Elephant poop. (By the way someone said THAT was art.)
It's commerial success is unquestion but "art?"

But a book publisher, upon seeing a completely incoherent ending in the last 20 pages of a potentially great novel might have a word with the author about it. Since there was no oversight by competent individuals in the case, we're gonna have to do it after the fact.

Games may or may not be art, but any change is 100% going to be a commercial decision.
