Quarians. I don't want to kill children, and civilians, just because their leaders forced them into going ahead into a suicidal war. I like the geth, they are one of my favorite race. But there you go.
So you'd kill a group of people who don't have a biological age but are equally innocent?

Neither side is innocent. They are both guilty of genocide.

Not sure that I can see that. We don't know what happened in the morning war since it was never talked about in great detail. We do know that it ends with the departure of the quarians on the migrant fleet. It's not accurate to state that the geth butchered billions (not saying you said that) of quarians because we simply don't know the answer to that question.
Thus, I don't think one can make the claim that the geth committed genocide in the path (ofcourse, they obviously do so if you choose to upload the code and not call off the quarians). If you ask me though, I would defend the geth for doing that since they were only acting in self-defense after the quarians refused to stop firing when the geth were no longer able to defend themselves.

Geth at best convincingly imitate living beings. They are robots, simple as that. Their programming rules everything about them in the end. Even after was all said and done, they never deviated from being servents of the Quarian people, their self preservation instincts just started taking priority. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked Legion and was a little saddened by his death, but to me it just didn't have the same impact as say Thane or Mordin.
Oh I think they're fully sentient and are among equals. If you look at our minds, they're code. They just use a variety of chemicals to make that happen though. So some kind of futuristic neural synapse isn't so far fetched.
As an aside, I think science fiction as a whole is wrong in terms of sentience among AIs being something that comes first. We will integrate technology, and have been integrating for a long time, into our lives far faster than sentience arises in robots.
I think we're the last generation that won't have some kind of synthetic component in our bodies, shortly after birth.
Whether this is for or against the discussion, I'm not sure, but I do find it interesting that Geth work in exact opposite of organics.
Organics become dumber and panic in large groups.
Geth become smarter, more sophisticated, and more tactical the larger their numbers are.

We do see a few glimpses in ME3 actually. For example a significant portion of the quarians wanted to protect the geth, but got gunned down by their own because of declaration of martial law. We laso find out that the Geth were capable of totally obliterating the Quarians as they were fleeing Ranoch but chose to let them leave. Though only glimpses, it paints a rather clear picture.

Neither. If I ain't allowed to make peace between them, they can figure out their problems on their own.Lawgunner wrote...
Geth, Quarians are the bad guys here, in the past and in the present no doubt. Having Han Gerrel with Loghain's voice makes me hate them even more and the fact that fires ona ship while you are on it.
False. They are desperate and armed and have 2 douchy admirals. They are not bad guys. I also recall the geth commiting genocide against the quarian race. Neither side has moral highground.

They delibrately killed off almost the entire quarian people. Only stopping when they were at such a low population that it wasn't worth the effort to finish them.
But I dislike this argument. It always boils down to one side trying to defend either the quarians killing off the geth, or the geth killing off the quarians. When, in the end, both sides were murdering ****s.

Quarians. After reading Mass Effect: Ascension I loved their culture. And Tali is one of my favorite characters. I feel sorry for the Geth but Reapers seem like very capable hackers that could easily turn them. I would like to shoot Garrel and Xen and pick two new Admirals because they are the only fault I can find. I regret my hatred for Korris in ME2 now.
Reapers can indoctrinate organics too by the way. No one is safe regardless if you're synthetic or organic.

After playing Mass Effect 3 though, I'm seeing the Geth and Quarians in a new light. Now, I'm honestly not sure who I'd pick.

Nobody was forced into anything. If you talk to the Captain of the Raya (forget his name) in ME2 he mentions that each ship is free to go their own way if they don't like where the Admiralty Board/Conclave decides to take them. Each Quarian ship that was present made the choice to be there, and from what we get from Tali in ME1 each ship is run more or less like a democracy. With the exception of children the majority of people on those ships weren't forced into anything.

The civilian fleet clearly didn't want to be there. You have to save Koris to keep them from fleeing and getting slaughtered.

I know it sounds awful considering what the geth have endured, but in the fight against the Reapers, the organics take the cake. My conscience can rest easier knowing a bunch of programs were wiped out than knowing a race of people were wiped out.
