So if people hate Ashley because they think she's "racist", then why do they like Wrex and Javik?

Wrex gives the impression that he's not entirely serious whenever he says anything that sounds somewhat racist. He'll happily live up to a lot of krogan stereotypes but in reality will happily get along with anyone and in reality judges them by deeds, not origins.
Ashley is simply closed-minded. Her dog analogy was especially glaring - I wouldn't throw an alien to a bear not because it's not the same species as me but because it's another sentient being. I could accept the rest of her opinions, which usually sound suspicious but not overtly so, if it wasn't for that. And the fact that she's a miserable, pessimistic, hates and distrusts everyone type of character makes her rather too close to me!

Right... Actually her religious views are annoying because she expresses them in a "You must be an idiot if you can't see the same thing as me" manner.moater boat wrote...

That contradicts the fact that other religious characters like Thane and Padok Wiks (for those who've heard of him) are generally well liked by the BSN community.

Ya people have royally screwed other races. But unlike the Genophage it ended. The Genophage is something that is on going. If I had to watch thousands of babies be born dead ya I would be a lil pissed too.

Javik-Comes back 50,000 years later, he insult the species but I've never seen him make a racist comment.
Ashley-Just straight up racist, combined that with all her whining/trust issues makes her a really annoying character.

A Turian and Salarian sterility plague, wich makes Wrex's racism can be understandable and infact he isn't racist twards Mordin once he gets to know him.
Javik comes from 50,000 years ago, something considered normal would be forbidden in our cycle, that's why I understand him.

And from what I got, the trust issues after the Cerberus intermezzo etc. only get worse in ME3, which does not make her any more likeable. If not on Virmire, she'd die on the Citadel for me. Every time.

No, I'm actually smart, like, REALLY smart, but that is beside the point. If you want to think that NO ONE dislikes Ashley because of her religious beliefs, go ahead and think that, but it isn't true. Some people do hate her because of her beliefs. That's how some poeple think.Lyrebon wrote...

No she doesn't. She briefly mentions it in the first game, and offers some justification for what seems to be an old fashioned view. I don't remember any point where she rubs it in anyones face.

I can't speak for Padok Wiks, but Thane's religion is viewed was made up by Bioware, it doesn't represent a real view held by billions of people. As such, people do not have the hostility or fear towards it that they do towards religions that people practice in real life.

Both Wrex and Javik are:
a) funny about it
c) are important
d) are arguably justified in their racism( Javik isn't really justified, but his society was just a leeeetle bit different in this aspect)

It is when your post neither makes it clear whom you're trying to defend (if any), nor a good defence regardless.

Javik is a Prothean, who looked down on other Races because in his time, they were primitive. Yet he doesn't flat out beat others down for it, and he is a product of the end of the Prothean Downfall.
Ashley is the daughter of a General who surrendered to Turians, is Religious, and bows to Shepard's whim unless you push her to be easily manipulated by Udina. She also has had one reason to not trust Shepard, but after that, dogs the problem constantly, and is worse then Kaidan at the description.
I can't say I hate her, but her lack of character development and the fact she's one of the most useless Squadmates makes her very avoidable, if anything the VC unless you bother to look at her ass or use her as a LI.

Actually Assley aid something along the lines of "Hello, how can you people see all of this {space and ****} and not beleive in something" Which struck me as very closed minded and backwards even for today much less a hundred+ years in the future.
Padok Wiks as I recall merely suggested that there was more to evolution than random chance, this probably makes him a deist. Unwittingly this describes most people's religious attitudes, or at least in my are of England.
Thane sounds very much like the antiquity pantheons and paganism, so yes we do have corrolaries the fct that you say a deathbed prayer and most people do (myself, an atheist included) should suggest how litle that phased anyone even though he was basically praying for your own soul or the drell equivelent much as I've heard christians offer to me. Probably would've accepted if lickeng them would get me high.

You realize the bear and the dog analogy played out in-game right?
Battle of the Citadel, do you let the Destiny Ascension get destroyed by the geth while 5th Fleet focused on Sovereign?
Geth=bear destiny Ascension=dog
And again in ME3:
The Reapers came, and the Council was willing to throw Earth at them while they got ready to defend their own borders.
When the chips were down, the other races looked to themselves first. That's all the analogy means. It's not rqacism, it's self-interest.
If you think Ashley's a hateful person, you haven't spoken to her much. Pessimistic, yeah, hateful not so much.

Replace "aliens" with "offspring" and I bet 90+% of the people here wouldn't even question the anaolgy. Or do most people in a "one lives, one dies situation" choose some stranger's kid above their own?
