So if people hate Ashley because they think she's "racist", then why do they like Wrex and Javik?

Javik isn't racist, he's just coming to grips that the races running this cycle were all still cavemen before he went to sleep and he's having trouble adjusting to the fact that so much has changed.
Ashley I wouldn't say is racist, but she was very closed minded and isolationist in 1, saying that aliens couldn't be trusted, always suspecting them of hiding something, that sort of thing. Sure her actual message was "at the end of the day humanity has to stand on it's own two feet" but that got mixed up with "aliens are untrustworthy bastards and we can only ever rely on ourselves." Even though she did have some nice moments with Tali in elevators.

Yeah i'm opening up this can of worms again. Now before you start making up excuses for Wrex and Javik, lemme ask you this. If I hate the British as a whole, for the crap that went down 300 years ago, would you make up excuses for me? There really is no real excuse out there for hating an entire race based on the actions of a few. Ashley had trust issues with other aliens but eventually grew out of it and trusted them as allies.
But then you've got Wrex who just openly insult Salarians and Turians in front of them, even go as far as joking about eating them. Then you've got Javik who just straight out trolls people. Not to mention there are other characters in the game that have made statements about trusting other aliens and what not. So why is Ashley the exception? Because she's human?
I don't know why it took me this long to notice this.
- Javick is a product of his time, he has never had the oppertunity to consider a differnet perspective till ME3
- Wrex isn't racist he and his people hold a grudge against the Turians and Salarians for what was done to them more than 1000 years ago. They view them with animosty , not a sense of superiority.
- Ashley chooses to be racist , depspite that not being the status quo as was the case with Javick and she also has no reason to hate them as was the case with Wrex. Her distrust and or dislike of aliens is centered completely arround the fact that she is human and they are not. Its just exnopobia plain and simple.

If I recall Hackett was working with Shepard and ONLY Shepard. No companions, no interaction with Cerberus. Nothing. Just Shepard. And at the time, Shepard can be completely finished with Cerberus as well (completed ME2).
Arrival can be done long before the end of ME2. Hacket literally says that he is happy that cerberus is doing something about the state of the galaxy. He knowingly enters a terrorist vessle, and he is working with a terrorist operative as far as Ash is concerned.
Again, when he comissions Shepard to do the job, he's comissioning Shepard. Not Cerberus. He's also an Admiral of the Alliance Fleet, with immunity from prosecution for his actions. For him to participate in negotiations with a terrorist organisation is permitted, look at the negotiations that go on between the US and the Taliban. But an NCO, even a senior one, would be charged with treason.
But, as far as ashley is concerned, commisioning shepard is commisioning cerberus.

I was replaying ME1 and it just hit me, why doesn't Rear Admiral Malkovich complain about Tali in the Engien room, being part of a race of space gypsies. Did Humans get their collective asses saved by a group of Quarians? Same with Ashley, no qualms with Tali in the engine room. Is there a reason that Humanity is on better relations with the Quarians than the rest of the galaxy?
Perhaps an enemy you can easily take out with a children's toy doesn't register on the military radar. The Quarians generally seem to be viewed as a non-threat, despite an impressive fleet (size wise) it's mostly junkers running on outdated tech. They don't have any means of large scale production or resource collection so they don't really have the means of launching an extended military campaign.

No, she refuses an offer to turn traitor. Hackett utilises an expendable asset.

Except that's not what she says. She resents the turians slightly for their unprovoked attack on Shanxi, but no more than she resents Alliance Command. Other than that, her concerns are based around the fact that they are either loose cannons or mercenaries who shouldn't be trusted with top level clearance. She doesn't hate anyone.Gogzilla wrote...

Javik is a D-bag, but he also has a legit reason to be a racist. Considering that when he was actually living in his own time period, everyone he's now working with weren't even developed. Besides that, I still enjoy his dry, black humor. He's also got the "Fight to the end." motif going.
I don't hate Ashley, but I'm definitely indifferent. In the first game, I decided to not romance her because not only was she xenophobic, but the poetry was too much. She's incredibly serious, and I think everyone needs a sense of humor, despite the serious times we may be in.

She distrusts aliens because they are beholden to governments and organizations who's best interests may not align with humanity's.
She also distrusts:
Cerberus
The Terra Firma party
Politicians
Corporate exectutives
Her sisters' boyfriends
In other words, she's generally not a trusting individual. She doesn't think aliens are inferior , or superior, to humans. She simply adheres to the assumption that everyone, human or alien, will look out for their own interests first. Turians will stick up for the Turian Hierarchy before the Systems Alliance. Same with the other Council races. Same with other species and their governments.

And don't get me wrong I understand governments keeping secrets, I just wonder if people's views on a character's opinion change when their opinion is proven correct. Like if we find out in an epilogue or book that if cured the Krogan did expand and start another war, would it change the opinions of people who didn't like the Dalatrass?

It gets worse:
ME3's description of Salarian 1st Fleet:
The salarian navy accepts nothing less than bleeding-edge technology in every single vessel. Military observers were puzzled and not a little suspicious when the salarians slowed down dreadnought production, building fewer ships than legally permitted under the Treaty of Farixen. The answer lies in the complexity of their construction. Acting on orders from Sur'Kesh, STG agents procured schematics of the SSV Normandy's stealth systems and the algorithms behind the Normandy SR-2's Reaper IFF signal. Months of research yielded something previously unthinkable--dreadnoughts with stealth capabilities. The salarians expect the Reapers to break through the dreadnought's electronic countermeasures eventually, but until then, they have a crucial advantage against their monstrous enemies.
"Procured" by the STG eh?
Gee, it's too bad Ash is so close-minded about alien governments. I mean, what's a little military espionage among allies, right?

Right, so bigotry is fine, as long as it's your bigotry. Nice to sort that out.
