Although, honestly, I have no real problem with Ashley. She's certainly better than Kaidan.

Both Javik and Wrex are incredibly up front about their attitudes. Ashley seems to try to rationalize her bias around the assumption she is still a wonderfully open minded person whilst Javik and Wrex are fully aware they are bastards. I think its her trying to force the fact she is a good person at the same time she is making subtle racist comments is what bugs people.

Ashley wasnt made effectively infertile, or woke up 50,000 years in the future with all the species around her being things that at one time licked eyes and ate flies.

She is obnoxious, like the majority of humans. They show up, and with barely thirty years of galactic involvement, demand all sorts of things that other species didnt get for centuries. Humanity is a bunch of ****s.

If they're fictional characters? Yes. Yes it is. Go watch any given Tarantino movie. The characters in almost every single one are heartless and emotionless killers. But, because they amuse you, you like them despite them taking people's lives en masse. That's how fiction works.

I've had a distaste for Ashley since ME1 when when she started talking about being uber-religious. Her xenophobia doesn't help matters either. Her entire distrusting nature is also a knock against her. I mean, how many ****ing times do I have to tell you to trust me?

Ashley in ME1 is insecure and ignorant. Wrex and Javik are neither. Wrex has a very jaded, cynical wit (and spends just as much if not even more time griping about his own people than he does the other races combined), and Javik is a product of a completely alien culture and his time who merely airs dirty laundry rather than out-and-out insulting races.

Racists don't usually call themselves racists. That'd be like terrorists calling themselves terrorists. Both groups of people think their beliefs and behavior are justified and exempt from the definition. Personally, I just hate Ashely 'cause she's a ****.

Because science fiction excels at re-contextualizing concepts found in real-life and puts them in a new light. Wrex and Javik could be considered racist, but since it is re-contextualized into aliens that have suffered under other races (Wrex) and used to rule over them (Javik), we give them the time to justify their actions. Humans, like Ashley, we do not because our social perception/experience make us instantly negative of any racists.
