@ramdog7 I like this Krogan and his words of approval.

 I really like  your story and I agree the Normandy is the hear of the series. It what reunites Chakwas, Joker, with Shep in ME2 and in the words of Chakwas " Here's to the Normandy our inmoveable center".

I'm sorry. You did some good, solid work here.

But the simple fact is, I can't care about the universe anymore. Everything that made it what it was is over. Mass Effect is dead.

I'm sorry. But expanding from that ending is like grooming a dead horse. You can pretty it up, but you can't bring it back to life.

One problem. Established game lore. Mass Relay explosion = super nova scale destruction to the system it was in. Earth, the Fleet, Thessia, Palavan, Tuchanka, etc, were all wiped out at the end of ME3 in all possible endings.

You had me at Mass Effect 4. Maybe Bioware will make an expansion from this guy! Ultimate ending. Who knows? I like the idea. Keep pumping out stuff! Go Cmdr Slander!

Hmm, I mean if I ignore the Mass Relay thing, which Bioware apparently is, I am intrigued by this. I might try to say something more constructive later but if nothing else this is definitely an interesting exersise in possibility.

A charged mass relay does that. A discharged one (remember they fired when the Crucible/Catalyst beam hit) may behave very differently. They are shown breaking up in the ending cut scene not exploding.

The didn't "explode" the same as the alpha relay ...they delivered your space magic in a massive fiery display..

Like the idea alot.

Also, are some people in here just being incredibly melodramatic for the sake of it?!

Pretty much this. Looking forward to being a Debbie Downer on any Mass Effect related media to be announced in the future.

It would seem so, yes. "The Mass Effect Ending Sucked, I'm Going to Space Myself!"

Tell me where, in the game, this fact was established, because the fact that they explode like a super nova was established in the Alpha Relay DLC which was reaffirmed in ME3 with both the beginning and in the War Asset entries and encounters with Batarians.

I understand why some want to just assume that the Space Magic somehow changed the Relay Explosions, but you have NO proof of this.  This is one of the many glaring problems with the game ending.  Going purely by established game lore, Mass Relay explosion = total destruction of the solar system it was in.

No one has said that. The ending, in my opinion invalidated the rest of the series. For me, their will be no ME4

Also, that whole scene sucks. The ending itself opened more doors than it closed, but the Stargazer was really just BioWare trying to make the point that life goes on no matter what.

Yep, and they could have killed Shepard during the first meeting, then show the stargazer scene, and still end up with lots of speculation!

Anyway OP, it's a great idea for ME4. But you only set the background. Who is the antagonist this time?

@sadako Reaper Cult mentioned in OP. No actual Reapers but crazed humans/aliens who believe that the Reapers were gods and we subverted their will. They seek to take the Normandy and use her dark energy to enlarge the black hole at the center of our galaxy*, which will finally destroy the galaxy once and for all (their simple interpretation of the Reaper's goals). They are not indoctrinated, just driven mad by circumstance. They couldn't live with what they saw/experienced so they became the enemy. Enemies include this group's ships and troops + the aforementioned lawless brigands, mercs, etc. The enemies will have much more variety than ME3. More like ME2, with the different merc companies, etc.

*This also allows me to set the epic final space battle in the center of the galaxy, which will be one epic backdrop. If a ship gets destroyed/loses power, into the event horizon it goes!

I enjoy this idea, it seems plausible. One thing though, it may just be me but I liked being "no one" when I started Mass Effect 1. Other than choosing a background I didn't know about the character, or their relatives or anything about them. They weren't some superhero that already saved the galaxy and they weren't related to one, I felt like I made them get to where they were, if I were to play ME4 as Joker's child it wouldn't have the same attachment as to my Shepard if you see what I'm getting at. I'd rather a fresh character, imho.

@Westlake Dragon

You were adopted by Joker when you where 16 after your family died in a ___________ (first background choice) you are now 26 years old an currently serve in Joker's merchant fleet as a ______________ (second background choice). You aren't actually related to him and weren't even alive during the Reapers, for all you know Shepard is a myth, or a fabrication created by the Alliance for propaganda, many believe that no one man/woman is capable of all the Shepard is credited with. You will, however, discover Shepard on earth, if he/she lived and there is a very emotional moment when they see their ship again (and LI if you elected to find them or they were on the Normandy when she crashed on Morgana) for the first time in 30 years.
