-Liara: Is essentially the Normandy SR3's executive officer, she is a concrete link to the old series and provides a lot of exposition, especially with the new slipspace tech. If she was romanced in ME3 she has a daughter in tow.
-Joker: Should be obvious, he is key to the plot of ME4.
-Samantha: Joker's right hand woman (though they aren't romantically involved at all for obvious reasons) in his new empire. She has the requisite intelligence for organizing a lot of the triumphs (colonizing Morgana, terraforming Morgana's moons, building the space station that orbits Morgana, rebuilding the Normandy) which are attributed to Joker. When Joker dies near the beginning of the game she relays his wishes and advises the player character throughout the mission.
-Engineer Adams: We need his tech expertise to help explain all the advancements that have been made.
FYI, here's what the other squadmates/former squadmates are up to:
-Tali: Part of a rogue Quarian fleet that is trying to find a new homeworld (as opposed to returning to Rannoch, which is very, very far from Sol).
-Ashley/Kaiden: Military strategist on Earth.
-Vega: Leader of a powerful private security firm in the Sol system.
-Garrus: The new Primarch of the Turian return fleet, which is only about 1/4 of the way back to palaven.
-Javik: He may end up being the primary antagonist. He was not a fan of the races of the current cycle and their failure to eliminate the Reapers in a way that preserved "a Galaxy worth living in" his prothean tech would also explain why the Reaper Cult also has slipspace drives.
-Wrex: Leader of Krogan return fleet.
-Grunt: Assuming he lived and was recruited as a war asset: Found battling the hostile native creatures on a toxic post-garden world. Hoping to create a home for the Krogan that did not wish to return of Tuchanka.
-Samara: Assuming she lived, now the last known Justicar, top advisor to leader of Asari return fleet.
-Jack: Researching the "interesting" effects that the crucible's dark energy has had on biotics.
-----
-Commander Shepard: If he/she lived they can be found on Earth, attempting to stay out of the public eye. If Shepard had an LI, they can be reunited via the new Normandy. If that LI was capable of bearing children with Shepard, the child will be left under Shepard's care once they are reunited.
New ME4 Squad: (No names yet for most, just general concepts)
-Rogue Quarian Admiral (male)
-Young female Krogan on a revenge mission.
-Ex-STG Salarian operative.
-Human Sniper with a tortured past (female - infiltrator)
-Kolyat Krios!
-Hanar Assassin - No, seriously. Edit: Lysanderna see my codex entry below.
-Wise, old Turian with a secret past.
-Reformed Ardat-Yakshi monk. Possibly Falere.
Here is a pretty rough concept for the fate of the former squadmembers and the new squadmates that Captain Moreau will be able to recruit.

I know a lot of people are saying "This is good, but don't have BioWare touch it" or "BioWare can't write squat".
But I think sometimes those people forget that they DID give us 3 good games! It's just that the ending for the 3rd game sucked! But the writing was solid for the Mass Effect Trilogy! (IMO)
Also BioWare has said that they are going to continue the Mass Effect universe. Not with Commander Shepard and maybe not in the same timeline but we will get another Mass Effect game! (MMO?)
Plus Mass Effect makes BioWare/EA boat loads of money, so you know darn well we will see another full Mass Effect game!
Keep it up CmdrSlander, can't wait to read more!

(Off topic: I hope to GOD BioWare doesn't make a ME MMO. I don't play MMOs, like, ever, and that would destroy any hope of getting another game I could actually have an interest in.)
This... I like this. And I love your ideas for squadmates.
I should go.

Mass Effect 4: Codex: Locations: Pariah Station
What may appear to a mass of galactic debris to visual observation is in fact one of the greatest achievements of the Post-Relay galaxy. Pariah Station, which orbits Morgana's second moon (Pariah) is constructed from the remains of 178 ships which escaped to the system as the relay network imploded. A shining example of the bootstrap space development that was common in Pre-Relay human civilization. Each ship was modified to share power, life support and artificial gravity systems with other similarly modified ships, the ships were then connected at a slight angle so that when all were connected the 178 vessels formed a stable ring. This technique, which was developed by the private human firm responsible for establishing the first long term outposts around Europa and Earth's moon is known in the industry as circling the wagons.
A true cross section of Galactic civilization, Pariah was constructed from a variety of human and Alien vessels including colonial long haul transports, massive commercial pleasure liners, mobile mining platforms, and agricultural transport vessels. Pariah provides overflow housing for Morgana and is also a hub of exo-Atmospheric ship building and He3 mining. The presence adjustable life support and adaptable food production facilities, makes Pariah the primary enclave of surviving Dextro-Amino Protien consuming species such as the Turians. Commodore Moreau himself has made Pariah his home and headquarters, from his office he surveys Morgana and the lights of her growing cities with pride.

Lysanderna, a Hanar Assassin, was cast off by his people at an early age for questioning the teachings of the Enkindlers, citing their apparent extinction as evidence that they were not, as the Hanar faithful claimed, infallible. He spent his time wandering the galaxy, seeking the truth about the Enkindlers, hoping to clear his name and return to his homeworld. Some years later, when he was set upon by Blue Suns mercenaries at a Prothean archeological site Lysanderna discovered his natural aptitude for combat, slaying the entire Blue Suns fire team with his bare tentacles and an ion pulse excavator before the Salarian researchers even realized they were under attack. The extra-corporeal, zen like, state he entered when in combat was later integrated into Drell Assassin training by the Hanar Council of Clandestine Actions. Forever changed by the events that transpired that day he soon abandoned his search for truth and hired out his unique services to the Galaxy's elite. Lysanderna performed contracts for Aria T'Loak and the Shadow Broker, among many others. Capitalizing on Hanar's indistinct appearance and reputation for pacifism to get close to targets.
When the Reapers came, despite his exile, Lysanderna returned to his homeworld to aid in it's defense. Lysanderna led the combined Hanar - Drell resistance on daring but ultimately pointless raids deep within Reaper territory. When Kahje fell to the Reapers, Lysanderna and a few high ranking Hanar and Drell officials escaped in a diplomatic shuttle through the system's relay. Arriving at the Citadel only to witness its capture by Reaper forces Lysanderna rallied the onboard Drell against the Hanar officials who had begun to believe submission to the Reapers was the only option and staged a mutiny. Slaying his superiors in a flurry of biotics and Haptic blades, Lysanderna took control of the shuttle and made a hasty FTL jump to the dark space outside the Scorpion Nebula as Reaper capital ships closed in. Lysanderna survived the destruction of the Relay Network and is now adrift in the shuttle near the Hades Gamma cluster, in a state of long term hibernation unique to Hanar. His shuttle is broadcasting his old identity code, one that is well known by the Galaxy's criminal element, including the Shadow Broker (Liara).

I'm sorry. You did some good, solid work here.
But the simple fact is, I can't care about the universe anymore. Everything that made it what it was is over. Mass Effect is dead.
I'm sorry. But expanding from that ending is like grooming a dead horse. You can pretty it up, but you can't bring it back to life.
This. Unless they fix the endings... I just don't give a ****.
The world after these endings has ceased to be Mass Effect. It's just some random apocalyptic sci-fi world.
I played Mass Effect for 3 things:
1. The characters. Who are all dead (stranded on an uninhabited world = dead, imo)
2. The lore and the galaxy. Which are both completely obliterated.
3. The story. Which went to utter **** in the last 10 minutes.

@Grasich I respect your opinion and agree in a way. However, my plot for ME4 offers to the player the opportunity to rebuild galactic civilization, to fix the damage done the the Catalyst and create a galaxy worthy of Shepard's sacrifice. Also, Hanar Assassins.
Well that last bit completely goes against Mass Effect lore and disregards the reason the Hanar used the Drell as proxy hitmen.

Yet you are on a message board of a game talking about the universe you claim is dead to you. Reminds me of the zombies in Dawn of the Dead who kept going to the mall and they wondered why
Yep. I am. I'm on the message board, complaining, rather than playing.
In fact, I'm not playing much of anything. Gaming itself has been kind of ruined for me. Since I saw the ending, I haven't been able to stick with a game for any reasonable length of time.
So I have a lot of spare time, and a lot of negativity, and I'm choosing to unload it as close as possible to those who gave it to me.
Live with it.
Gawd, it's not that bad...

Also I'm imagining Shepard living in the shell of a destroyed city with a worn cloak covering his/her n7 armour or something.
Keep up the good work, would love to help/ be involved in this.

As exceedingly cool as that would be, one would hope that with 30 years and nothing better to do the Alliance/Earth Governments have rebuilt. Although my vision for post-relay earth does include big chunks if the Citadel wards sticking out of the ground a la Halo 3.

Constructed between 2195 and 2213 the Hades Array is the Earth Systems Alliance's ultimate answer to incoming extrasolar threats, be they Reaper, Alien, or otherwise. Located in the asteroid belt that lies roughly between Mars and Jupiter the Hades Array consists of 615 compact High Energy Thanix Cannon batteries disguised as asteroids or other space debris. Capable of firing independently or in coordinated strikes the Hades Array can theoretically beat back or utterly destroy any conceivable enemy fleet in a short, violent, and distinctly one-sided battle. The heart of the Array is Anderson Station, which serves as the main fire control center for the array and the primary shipyards for the Alliance navy.
What Alliance propaganda fails to mention is the fact that the concept and execution was the brainchild of the infamous Illusive Man. Though he has been dead since the end of the Reaper War, files extracted from the Cronos Station included detailed plans for the Hades Array, plans which he had completed at the conclusion of the First Contact War and revised to include Thanix technology after the First Battle of the Citadel.
