If you didn't buy ME 3 for art, why DID you buy it for?

To be perfectly clear, I do not enjoy nihilistic endings structured around genocide.

an epic sci-fi story with a galactic war theme.
This, along with some damn good romance. Instead I got a ginormous kick in the rear.

Did people seriously buy this game just for the ending? Did people go into ME3 thinking, "Sure I'm gonna be bored for 30 hours but the ending is gonna be awesome!" I bought ME3 for the whole game, not just for the last few minutes.
Smells like misinterpretation up in here.

Fun.
Seeing the culmination of my choices... Proving myself right for saving the Rachni, and using legion... I bought the game for MY story. Not Biowares so-called art.

The last few minutes spoiled my enjoyment of the game. I'm not exaggerating. If anyone asks me if I liked ME3, my first answer would be "NO". Even if I liked it at some point, it doesn't really matter because I only have terrible memory about the game. And how I remember it is the only important thing.

But the last few minutes shape your perceptions of the rest of the game. The other 30 hours were put in to bring the ending to fruition. When the ending is unworthy of the other 30 hours (not to mention two whole other games) it makes it feel like you wasted your time.

Well said.
Art can be commercial. Shakespeare is art, but millions every year will pay to watch a peformance. Literature can be art, as can things like music or dance. The fact that someone somewhere pays for it doesn't matter.
If I commission a portrait from a great painter, does the fact that I directed them as to what to make detract from it's value?

Where were the elcor obliterating enemies with rocket launchers and chainguns on ther backs?
Where was Grunt wrestling a brute down to the ground with his bare hands?
Where was Wrex ripping a husk in half with his bare hands?
Where was that platoon of Geth Primes unleashing hell on mutated Rachni?
Where was Garrus calling down a thanix cannon strike on a reaper, blowing holes in it.
Where was an STG agent sneaking up on a Banshee, Using his omniblade to kill it?
Oh. Right. Those are all in the garbage at Bioware Headquarters. In favor of ART.
Where is Bioware's head during all this? Firmly placed somewhere rather dark and unpleasant.
What. A. Joke.

I personally am not a fan of the ending, but I can't justfiably rip on Bioware for it. They gave me a solid 100-150 hours across 3 games of some of the best gameplay and story I've ever played, and very few other games have done that for me.

I understand that, what you said makes sense, I was talking to the people who claim they bought the game purely for the ending.

Why are you gathering fleets?
Why are you doing Diplomacy rather than fighting on Earth?
Why are you solving everyone's problems?
For the END where you charge in, and see your choices in action. We play the games to make those choices. We end the game to see the choices come into effect.
Mass Effect has never had good gameplay, and I'll barely count this as an exception. Is it passable? Yes. Is it brilliant and addicting and fun? Currently the multiplayer is, but doing that in single player would be boring. We play it for the story, and the feeling of our choices mattering. When both are destroyed by the ending... Yeah, I'm not going to go into this again.
