If you didn't buy ME 3 for art, why DID you buy it for?

This argument isn't that cut and dry. Yes video games in my opinion are art. But so are movies, and other things. Sometimes movies suck because of their endings. People see them and don't buy the DVD or Blu Ray if they hate it. Video games are interactive, cost 60 bucks, and are more time consuming. It is not uncommon for companies to patch games that have glitches or bugs. Some of us are arguing that the ending is the biggest glitch of the franchise. There are so many variables. Was bioware trying to upset those of us who disliked the ending? Of course not, I know they love the franchise just like we do. They develop it so their view probably looks a lot different. All in all ive been impressed with bioware since KOTOR. Not too big of a DA fan, but I'm not into swords, and dragons all that much. I mean those things are cool, i just like sci fi more.
but its art, video games combine so many different artforms, and sometimes one little bit can derail something. Just my 2 cents.

I bought it so my Shepard could take the characters I've spent years getting to know and love through the final act of their story. I bought it so she could get rid of the reapers, and leave the galaxy in the best damn shape she could, for her friends to spend the rest of their lives in. I never expected Shepard to live, but I sure as hell didn't expect that her best efforts would leave the galaxy no better off than had she phoned it in the whole time.

Agreed.  But I was hoping for a conclusive way to save everything!

I bought it, because I wanted to take my mind off of the world, and not feel like ****. I hate turning on the news, and seeing death, and countries perpetrating atrocious acts...or seeing the degredation of politics in my own country...

I bought the game because science fiction content always gives me hope, allows me to dream happily, and helps me to feel good.

I didn't buy it for an ending that made me remember what I wanted to get away from...

Story, and immersion in one of the best crafted sci-fi worlds I had ever seen.

I think it's simple. People here LOVE Mass Effect, and they're just trying to prevent 10 min of gameplay destroying +100 hours of a fantastic experience. If it wasn't anything short of fantastic, nobody would be here.

That said, I think if they decide to not change the ending, they will lose a lot of loyal consumers, including myself.Sure they will still make profit (and I think this will be one of the most profitable games for them, because of the MP), but a part of their core fans will lose faith in their integrity.

I don't now if I speak for a majority here, I just suspect so. I'm a person in my late twenties, with a job and real life issues. Never was a hardcore gamer, and my gaming days passed since I went to college.Mass Effect was like an interactive movie for me, about my personal choices in the game affecting the outcome of itself. In the last ten minutes of the movie/game, they altered this core aspect with a personal story from somebody else ( I suspect one of the writers who was not reviewed by his/her peers), after advertising that all my choices mattered and I would have vast variety of endings because of this choices.

If they don't change the endings and give us what they promised, I will never pre-purchase any product from them anymore, nor buy dlcs. Why bother, when I can wait one-two years and play the whole content almost free of charge? And this is a moderate tone. If they say something about endings "clarification" and not changing for what they repeatedly promised, it's just a rip-off, and I will never buy anything from them. If it was any other industry, they would be sued for false advertising.

Imagine one of those choose your own adventure books and ads for it state that its going to have an explaination for all the events in the entire series and when you get to the last page for each choice instead of what was advertised you just see a picture of a lawnmower, some lines on why you should buy a rotary phone and a scratch and sniff that smells like pancakes.

I bought it because I wanted to see how all of my choices help to improve/save the galaxy.

Instead, I basically destroyed it. Kudos BioWare.

Bought it for entertainment - but more than that I bought the game to see how my choices shaped not only Shepard's journey but the galaxy as a whole into the future. ^_^

That last part was never shown ~_~ They're all more or less the same level of screwed. All that's left is my attempts to 'speculate' them in ways that don't invalidate my choices to those I cared about.

I bought Mass Effect so I could be the artist, to shape the galaxy how I wanted to. I know that realistically they had to put limitations on the majority of the story...but if there was ever one thing to just blow out the choices on, it was the ending. They did the exact opposite.

Fun.

And, might I add, a satisfying conclusion to an otherwise amazing series.

fun and to finish my Shepards stories. I had some fun. I also had some crushing disappointment and ..other things. stories are still unfinished and will stay that way unless there will be good and varied conclusions for me to chose from, aka new endings.

incidentally - as a creative individual, the notion of art being static and unchanging is.. to put it mildly, laughable to me. I've dealt with my share of constructive (and sometimes not that constructive) criticism, from both clients and fellow artists. fellow artists I may think politely and stick to my original ideas (unless they convince me otherwise, which has been known to happen plenty) paying clients? warrant changes. becasue they are paying me. they deserve to get what pleases them

Concluding my amazing journey with a satifying and ENTERTAINING ending.

Art never came up to my mind. If a game fails to entertain me, it failed to do it's job.

our galaxy and our society doesn't depend on interstellar travel network.  in Mass Effect - an entire galactic fleet is stuck inside ravaged sol system.  what Krogan are left in Krogan DMZ will most likely die off since they have no shroud to keep radiation at bay anymore.. and no garden planets.  Tuchanka can barely support life as it is, even before the destruction of the shroud.

galaxy as we know it?  is destroyed.  cycle might as well have been complete, and only with destroy ending can we guarantee that it will not happen again sometime in a future.  and even then?  we merely paved the way for the next cycle.  this one?  is bust.

I bought it for an epic ending to an epic series.

The blunder aspect of the ending was epic at least...
