I guess TIM was scraping the bottom of the barrel for a cheerleader to replace Miranda.

For all the hate he gets, the Renegade interrupt you use on him is simply unmatched for badassness and satisfaction.

Kai Leng is the master of Email assaults, if nothing else. So if he has one saving grace, it's the post-Thessia stuff that happens right after.

They really could have made him a bit more formidable. They should have done a "Rigged to Lose" fight(s) like in Dragon Age: Origins to lend a little bit more credibility to his "Skillz". Instead, we get a campy and cliche "You kicked my ass, but I still won" scene where Kai Leng calls down a nonthreatening set piece (Of which you blew up 20 or so in Mass Effect 2) while he sits in the open.

*Yes, I realize you can win the so called "Rigged to Lose" fight near the end of Dragon Age: Origins, but that's not the point. The point is that Bioware has sold the "Get your ass kicked" in the narrative thing before through gameplay.

I hate rigged to lose fights as much as I hate enemies with god mode.

If my character is supposed to be this super badass then the only thing which should be able to oppose me is another superbadass. Kai Leng is a two bit nobody introduced when there are only 10 or fewer hours left at the tail end of a 3 game series so he doesn't qualify as a badass. Especially not after getting his ass whooped by Thane.

And the Renegade death scene was only rubbing salt in my wounds. I should have had a renegade interupt all the way back when I first encountered him on the Citadel.

I've got to say, I liked Kai Leng's inclusion. Because I've read the book's plots (though not the books themselves), I knew who Kai Leng was; maybe that made the difference. But I found was impressed throughout the Citadel mission by him, really. He had a great fight with Thane, I liked the car and elevator chases... His plot armor on Thessia was kind of annoying, but understandable. The fight in the Illusive Man's room was great, and finally killing my nemesis was satisfying.

Some of you seem to have your suspension of belief turned off and on at awkward moments. If you apply the same suspension of disbelief that's required for most of the game to Kai Leng, like I did, he's not that bad.

I shouldn't have to suspend my belief in reality in order to accept bad writing.

Rather the writing should be so good that the plot feels like it arrived at its destination naturally.

When my Shephard shot a moving target with a sniper rifle that she never used before I knew that she was an expert marksman. But somehow she was able to shoot an entire clip's worth of bullets out of a weapon she has used extensively and not manage to hit him even once? Only nameless nenchman are supposed to suck that much. That is just one example of what is so wrong with this character.

I have no doubt that your lack of hate for Kai Leng comes entirely from previous introduction to him. However the first time I saw Kai Leng he got his ass whooped by a nearly dead Thane whereas I have killed  a baby Reaper, a Soverign class Reaper, an entire base full of Collectors, you name it and I have killed it.

But it wasn't just Kai Leng I ahted, but the moping Shephard did afterwards as if she had actually been beaten by him when in reality she was only beaten by bad writing.

I agree. I was thoroughly unimpressed with Kai Leng.

I wish Shepard didn't have to say "that was for ___ you SOB" after stabbing him. Is him being a scumbag not reason enough?

I know that it may sound silly, but did people complain about Saren's Virmire plot armor?

(remembering that Saren is a great villain and KL is generic)

Shepard's plot armor is pretty bad, too, but no one seems to complain because Shepard is the player.

I'm not sure why only Kai Leng gets these kinds of complaints.... hmmm....

While it's also cliche, Leng would of been a lot less derptastic if he'd been a sniper who you know, stayed the hell away from Shepard, or he had a cloak. Kinda like Randall Enzo in ME infiltrator.

the invincishields were so freaking annoying on Mars, all I thought was 'cripes I really hope BioWare don't pull that gubbins again.'

Oh well.

I think I wanted to kill Kai Leng within 5 seconds of him appearing onscreen. Then I thought I would be able to do so on Thessia -- Liara had Stasis Bubble, and I had EDI with me for Overload. Turns out I needn't have bothered with Stasis since he's immune to it. Had the same issue when chasing Dr. Eva.

"Oh, she's running. Liara, tag her with a Stasis Bubble."
*Dr. Eva runs through the bubble as if it doesn't exist.*
"Damn. Okay, Kaiden, Overload her shields."
*Overload does nothing.*
"Sigh, alright, let's give chase."

Speaking of Dr. Eva, she fires Incinerate at you while running away, but I've never had them hit me. Do they actually do anything or is it just for effect?

personally i dislike kai-lang for the lame auto-wins. Saren did not have any auto wins. just auto escapes when you **** slapped him. At least got away on a cool flying saucer platform into a giant reaper ship:).

What they should have done is look at the only redeeming thing in DA2. the bad ass boss fight with the Qunari Chief. this is still one of the best. or given him some cool way to escape.

Whoever came up with the Kai Leng character should be shot, drawn and quatered.

I was so frustrated by his aura of incompetency that I literally punch a hole into my monitor.

Why the fark do we not kill him when we first encounter him on the Citadel when he is fighting Thane? He's clearly a craptastic and unskilled Assassin if he can be beaten by a nearly dead Drell, and we have guns while he was lying there prone on the ground. I've shot people for less. This was unbearably stupid.

Next we fight him on the car, I should have fun. And then to make things worse he shoves a normal metal sword through the top of the car which apparently houses important electronics that make it crash. Unbearably stupid.

Then he boards multiple elevators all housed in one elevator shaft that magically move faster than the elevator I am using to chase him. Once again unbearably stupid.

Next he appears when I am at Thessia. Rather than simply kiling him outright I let him walk around free as a bird while the Illusive Man gives us his monologue and for some completely unbelieveably stupid reason I sit there and listen to it knowing full well that I don't give a damn what he has to say and really need to make sure I get the information on the Catalyst is now sitting 2 fing feet in front of my face. Unbearably stupid.

And the icing on the cake  is when he becomes magically immune to biotics/tech even though he has no shields left and is apparently using a godmode cheat code. The complete totality of the stupidity behind this character's magical invincibility despite his demonstrated lack of fighting ability is when I finally could not take it anymore and lost a monitor and cut up my hand, Luckily the monitor was on the fritz and needed to be replaced so it wasn't a huge loss.

Once he got away on Thessia I just couldn't take it and had to quit the game for the day, maybe the weekend or even the rest of the month until I forget how awful that was.

This may be an older post, but THANK YOU!!  Such a stupid bit of plot armor, and for what.....I never read the books, so he means nothing to me, and this cereal ninja is the ONLY character that will mention Thane's death AT ALL!?!?!.  So poorly done, and I just want to shove the GPS in his face and shoot!  Which personally, I should have been able to do!

Because I was too lazy to dodge, it actually does do something. It takes your barrier down to half. That's about it.

What I didnt get is how just before you get to the temple place, two of your friendly gunships get attacked by reaper troops. But kai leng's gunship friend is completely ignored by the reapers on thessia. WHERE DID THE REAPERS GO? they just magically knew that those people were indoctinated? in which case why do they attack cerberus troops at other points (e.g. sanctuary?) :pinched:

Evil Cerberus try to control the Reapers. Thus the Reapers are mad and want to kill them. Doesn't they tell something around that during the mission? I'm sure they did.

Kai Leng wasn't terribly original or interesting, but I thought his battle with Thane was well animated. Maybe it's campy and lame, but I like space ninjas. Yeah, it's kind of cheesy that he's arbitrarily invincible from time to time, but this is a video game. It's not unexpected.

Honestly Kai Leng is just one more thing wrong with this game. I wouldn't even put him on the top ten list of ME3's disasters.

What I want to know is why didn't Shepard point the car up so he caused Leng to have to either leap or get smashed against a concrete or other similar material walkway/pillar. Instead he takes his gun out and SHOOTS the windshield? really? really? (With Seth & Amy)

I have to admit I thought Kai Leng was really out of place in the mass effect universe, it was like they just leaned back in a meeting thinking we need a new boss that might be cool.. Ninja everyone likes those right?! :D

I think you're taking the Mass Effect universe a little too seriously.  There have been sexy blue space babes from day one.  I don't think space ninjas are that out of line, especially with the precedent Kasumi's DLC set in ME2.  She leaps around like Spider-Man.  I can understand that this sort of exaggerated agility isn't for everyone, and likely seems out of place to many players.  I'm able to appreciate it, though.

i wish i had an ability that when i lost my shields i become immune to god damn everything.

"im kai leng. when im about to die, i croutch on the ground and become immune to weapons fire and even if someone threw the titanic at me, wouldnt matter.. im kai leng, and i can croutch better then ANYONE."

what a douche.

ME2 was extremely comic booky, so he didnt seem so out of place to me. i was expectin him to be more threatening to the story of shepard. but i guess they had to make room for harbinger too. er, maybe not.

If you punched a hole through your screen because you didn't like a character, you have bigger issues than the people who came up with Kai Leng.

I've read the books, and Kai leng in the books (not deception) seemed to be a calm and collected character. Like nothing bothered him. But in the game, he was like a child spitting out petty insults as you battled him. It was laughable. He even tells you to "Shut up." while you two are fighting. Like really, first you were telling me how slow I was and all this other crap and when you can't think of anything else to say because my shepard just asked "how are your legs feeling" you tell me to "Shut up."

He was portayed horribly. I'll say it again: marauder shields was a way better boss than Kai leng. At least marauder killed me.

A bit melodramatic, aren't we?  Yet the very fact that you didn't punch a hole into your monitor and are still posting gives me the sense that you just enjoy speaking in hyperbole- like most here - your words hold more drama than substance.

I disagree- Kai Leng was an good sub-villain.

Damn! He kept getting away, and everything he said/did enraged you- the very idea of him escaping enraged you- how stupid that he got away those first few times! You must have really hated his guts. Oh wait- isn't that the quality of a good villain?

No, it is not satisfying.

It's a vanguard/shotgun thing.  You wouldn't understand.

By all rights, the charge-nova spamfest that I beat him like a lil' beeotch with at Cerbie HQ should have turned him into a red stain on the museum floor on Thessia... except he suddenly got Cutscene Power To The Max.
