We all know that Grey Wardens die whenever they kill an Archdemon. They know that from the start. But in the game, we get to choose if we want to self-sacrifice, sacrifice Alistair, or perform the dark ritual with Morrigan. Obviously, some of us would prefer doing the dark ritual for continuity's sake.

What do you think what the other Grey Wardens would think about your ritual with Morrigan that lets an Old God get away instead of the Grey Warden dying with it? As a Grey Warden, you know your days are numbered and you know your responsibilities.

Should the PC be sent to a Grey Warden Tribunal  and explain his actions?

Only a corrupted Old God is an Archdemon.

The blight ended, or did it?, I cannot see that Morrigan or Flemeth would consider this route if they thought the blight on the God would not be removed with rebirth.



An interesting question is, if you do not accept Morrigans offer, does the ending still mention bands of Darkspawn running round, disorganised but still a threat?



A Grey Warden defends the land, the ritual they undergo to ensure they kill the Archdemon is a terrible price as well.

Personally I had faith that the Dark Ritual was going to end the blight and didnt see it as any different to giving your life.

No matter what you do, there's a blight - what? - every 100 years or so, right ....?

So, you could also very well go with the dark ritual, in the long run it won't matter ... (which is to some extent unsatisfying - at least for me)

Yes I think the ritual is considered the bad option, and sacrificing yourself the old-fashioned way is the good option.

How is it bad? We only assume it's bad because it's not the normal route that Grey Wardens take when felling an archdemon. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Grey Wardens never really looked at survival from killing the archdemon because of the fact that they have already resigned themselves to their fate from the start. In fact they are told (if not immediately before) after the Joining that being a Grey Warden is a death sentence. Just because it's what they are expected to do, doesn't make it the good option.

Its more than just a century. The last blight before DA:O was four centurys ago.

Plus, theres only seven old gods. By the end of DA, only two are left.

The previous blight was 400 years before the events in the game, and there is *supposedly* a finite number of old gods : 7. You kill the 5th at the end of the game.

I did this ending and Alistair said the other Grey Wardens(meaning those outside of Ferelden, obviously) are already asking questions about how I survived. I seriously doubt they are going to let this fly. The old god might not be corrupted by the Darkspawn Taint anymore, but I have to imagine that it is still going to be something evil regardless.

BTW you dont know that a warden dies with the demon until endgame time so.....yeh better to do the ritual and survive to fight another day (maybe hunt a old god down and kill it before it becomes a archdemon)

It's bad because there can only be as many Blights as there are Old Gods. By allowing the Old God that caused this Blight to be reborn, even if it's free of the taint, is risking another Blight if it ever gets corrupted again by darkspawn. You've basically just saved yourself at the risk of dooming everyone.

When a Grey Warden sacrifices him the Archdemon is destroyed. If you take the ritual the archdemon (albeit without the taint) still lives on in Morrigan's child.

Also each Blight started when the Darkspwan corrupted an Old God. Sine there are/were only seven Old Gods, combined with the fact that each of them is killed by the GW, there will only be a total seven Blights.

Now however, an Old God survived a Blight it caused. What would happen if the Darkspwan found it? A potential eight Blight.

Well, from my human noble's pragmatic view, there was no guarantee any of the three Grey Wardens left in all of Feralden would make it to the Archdemon to deliver the killing blow (yes, as players, we know they would, but that would be metagaming...sort of >.> <.<), and Morrigan never mentioned a Grey Warden needing to deal the killing blow in order for the ritual to work, so better to have a Plan B. Being alive afterward was just a pleasant bonus.



As for the other Wardens, well...they can go fly a kite. All through out the game, they go on about stopping the Blight and killing the Archdemon. Well, with the ritual the Blight has been stopped and the Archdemon is dead. If they don't like the results, they can pack up and go back to Orlais.

I don't think doing the dark ritual is the "evil" option. More like an easy way out for the Grey Warden to save his ass.

You are saving the soul of an Old God. If you go with the theme of redemption (which is mentioned quite often in the game), you have just given one of the most powerful beings in the Dragon Age universe a chance of making up for the damage it has done while corrupted by the darkspawn. It's even the Old God of Beauty; do we have any sign in the game of that god (or any of them) being evil?

But the other Old Gods were bound and kept asleep. This one will be awaken, ready to defend itself and prevent the corruption.

Wasn't that done by the mages who would later become the darkspawn, not the Old Gods themselves?

Even if the Old God has been reborn with purity, the darkspawn eventually will seek it and begin tainting it again.



Maybe Morrigan did it so she could use it to defend herslef against Flemeth soon. But considering her being an un-goody companion, maybe she'll use it to for evil ways.

True. Not even the Sacred Ashes of Andraste are real proof that the Maker exists. If you bring Ogrhen with you on this quest he'll mention that he can sense an extremely strong Lyrium vein around the temple and that it affects everything inside. He actually says that it might not all be real.

Duncan or Riordan will be against it, I am sure of it.
