I'm sorry to be asking a question probably asked hundreds of times before :crying: ... I don't have luck with search engines.

When I install ME2, I'll be given the option to import Shepard's completed games.  I have one completed game with Shepard at lvl39 which allowed me to start the 2nd playthrough at lvl40.  I'm currently at lvl45 on that playthrough, and haven't done much outside the Citadel and almost none of the main quest, other than becoming a Spectre and getting the comm on Normandy ... so, I'll probably be well into 50+ before I complete the game.

What are the optimal conditions to import to ME2?  Get as far to 60 as humanly possible, even if I fall short at lvl 57-59?  Get to lvl 60 even if it requires a 3rd playthrough?  Stop now and import my lvl 39-40?

I thought I'd have no problem with a 2nd playthrough ... but the thrill is gone :P

Being 50+ is handy. I missed 60 by 80k and didn't feel like it was a disadvantage when I imported that Shep into ME2. The extra credits might have been useful once or twice but other than that 60's not a big deal. If I were you I'd take the opportunity to level up to at least 50 and get all the story decisions just how you want them.

Thanks for that! The only story decision I regret was losing Wrex, but it didn't seem I had a choice. Do I? Other than that, I guess I won't know what other decisions were 'wrong' until I get to ME2.

Yes, it's possible to keep Wrex alive. I think you need a fairly high Paragon score to get the conversation option that stops you having to shoot him, but it certainly can be done and it does play out in ME2 if you keep him alive.

You get more credits and resources if you import a level 60 character instead of a level 50-59 character, but the difference between the two is minimal.
The biggest difference is your starting level. Importing a level 60 character starts you at level 5 in ME2, while importing a level 50-59 character starts you at level 3. Starting at level 5 is nice, but starting at level 3 is more than enough to get you started for most builds.

As for Wrex, if you get his family armor before Virmire, you can get him to stand down on Virmire without needing charm or intimidate. For level 50 builds, I suggest you check out this thread.

I forgot about finding his family armour for him and also that there's an intimidate option as well if that's high enough.

@Physt. By the way, if you can keep Wrex alive it gets you the Charismatic achievement if you haven't already got it, and I think the only other way of getting it is to talk Saren into shooting himself at the end of the game so you only have to fight him once (as Zombie Husk Saren). If you're not putting many points in the charm and/or intimidate talents then finding Wrex's armour and talking him round on Virmire is probably the easier way of getting that achievment.
