I actually played ME2 first and loved it so much I thought I'll go back and check out ME1.
Wow, the gameplay was just terrible. TERRIBLE. Especially the cooldown ammo mechanic and those horrible crosshairs. Its only saving grace was the story and awesome dialogue. But other than that, I hated it. It was a chore to play.

Many people share these sentiments. I, however, am not one of them.

Some really great moments in ME1, no way.

Hates the whole game? There aren't many, though there are plenty of people who hate the cooldowns, or the inventory, or the pointless driving around, or the gameplay in general, or several of these.

I actually had no problems with ME1, framerate aside. Best ME to this day.

I really can't say that I hate it. But I've played it only once and I loved ME2 more. I would love to go back to it but I can't really play it on PS3. Thanks Microsoft.

The only problem I have with ME1 is that it now feels more like a prologue than anything else, and not a great game in its own right. Which, despite several faults, it still is.

Probably. I don't know anybody personally that hates ME1. And you are officially the 1st person in the forums I have seen that hates. (I played ME1 when it released, but am fairly new to the forums.)
Do you hate epic things??? LOL JK dude.

Yes. Because you played dumbed down sequel first. ME had it's problems (slow planet exploration, broken inventory system, strange combat), but it was game that gave you feeling that you're merely little bug in vast space. Sequels were made to appeal larger audience (PS3 users in the first place), and that is always two-sided blade.

I share you sentiment I recently tried replaying the first game and while the story is great godamnit the combat system is stupid and inventory is even worse. For some weird reason its actually the game that runs on worst on my pc of the three, meaning more laggy and glitchy than either Me2 or Me3

I don't hate ME1 but I do think it is very flawed and virtually unplayble ( on the 360 at least ).

If they fix the ME3 ending I would love to see the series remastered one day to ME3 gameplay.

I suppose if you played ME2 first I could understand why you think that, but when it first came out I loved it, even the combat. Even though I like ME2 more now, there is an intimacy about ME1 that the other games don't have.

Plus given what you know now happens to Shepard in ME3, the Shepard in ME1 seems kind of innocent in terms of the way she was brought into this. That makes it very appealing for me to play.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, ME1 is the only one that crashes on my computer occasionaly.

Lol, I get what OP's saying. Especially if you play it after you've already played ME2. Still love it, though. It's such a classic even if it's only 5 years old. Saren, the elevator conversations, drunk driving, spending a third of the game running over geth- good times.Image IPB

ME1 gameplay wasn't great. In fact when I first played it, I stopped playing after Eden Prime because I didn't like the gameplay (combat, exploration mechanics, inventory mess, etc). Eventually I resumed, and it was the story that carried me through. ME2 was much nicer gameplay-wise (although as with ME3, they REALLY need to have separate keys for different actions, having spacebar as do-it-all only causes issues in the heat of battle) as well as with how it handled items, but felt slightly weaker with the story.

Also, before getting to the Spectre weapons, the combat accuracy felt so off in ME1 that I truly disliked combat up to that point. After getting the Spectre weapons it was at least playable. ME2, by comparison, was nicer from the get-go.
