Am I the only one who hates ME1?

I played ME1 right before ME2 came out and after moving on to 2 I haven't looked back since, the story in ME2 is just as good (perhaps better because of loyalty missions) and has imo a way more fun combat system. I've got like 6 me2 playthroughs and 1 me1. Not saying ME1 is bad but after I played ME2 going back feels weird and it felt like a massive chore to do all the boring mako rides again.

I actually played ME2 first and loved it so much I thought I'll go back and check out ME1.
Wow, the gameplay was just terrible. TERRIBLE. Especially the cooldown ammo mechanic and those horrible crosshairs. Its only saving grace was the story and awesome dialogue. But other than that, I hated it. It was a chore to play.
Welcome to the new breed of Bioware customer.
Gameplay before anything else. Story and dialog are awesome, but hates ME1 because of gameplay they didn't like.
That's Bioware's target audience and new mission statement summed up in two depressing sentences.
Why cant we have both? ME 2 does, therefore its the better game.
This. I want good gameplay, good story and good characters. Any one of these three if done really badly can be a game breaker for me personally. Otherwise, two makes a good game, all three makes a great game. I'm not far enough into ME to tell how it rates story and character wise but the gameplay isn't so bad as to ruin the game for me, I just think it could have been better in places.

While KOTOR wasn't my first BioWare game it definitely has a special place in my heart as well. One of the greatest Star Wars games ever. I hope BioWare revisits the IP again with another console game if they can.Il Divo wrote...

A game has to stand on its own. I for one played the series from the beginning and felt it is far inferior. I enjoyed Kotor far more as well.
There's that. For myself, it was also the first experience with a Bioware game, so it has a special place in my heart.

Mass Effect 3 is leaps and bounds above both its predecessors, and I say this from the perspective of playing only ME1 and ME2 for the past two weeks (waiting for ending DLC for ME3).

Bioware revisiting KoTOR with an offline game is pretty much up to Uncle George or his minions at Lucasarts I think. (I don't mean minions in a bad way, I'm a huge SW fangirl and would do most things to be one of those minions) The fact that they did TOR makes it promising that they'll do something SW related, hopefully it won't be just expansions for TOR though.

I'll be honest, if you stripped the story away it would be extremely painful to play. But then again, let's be honest. We don't really play for the shooter part now do we.
I recently went back to play another play through and man are there a lot of bugs with squad pathing. I can't count the number of times Garrus has gotten stuck and refused to move. Silly Turian.

Oh please no. The current BioWare cannot handle KotOR.

If it wasn't for the small little details (Kirrahe, Conrad, etc), I would only play from ME2 onwards.

Wow, aren't you a little presumptious of others?JexyG wrote...
Pretty much. ME1 is for people who like RPGs, you know... what the game is SUPPOSED to be. You'd probably be the guy who likes DA2 over DA1 cause the combat was better.
Let's face some facts. Mass Effect 1 had abysmal combat compared to the rest of the series. Dragon Age II had much better combat than Dragon Age I. Whether you like one or the other is your opinion, but there are definite markers of what is good and bad gameplay, and it could not be any clearer with the examples you wish to mention.

If you want to make it more entertaining, pick Liara up last. It's fun watching Shepard bumble around the whole game, not knowing what the hell he's doing without her to explain his prothean visions.
