ME1's only major shortcoming was the inventory system; I could tolerate everything else, even the dull gameplay. There was just so much beauty in that game it overshadowed its issues.
Am I the only one who hates ME1?

Oh, did you have trouble letting up on the trigger? This is why Bioware created that bulls**t "Thermal clip" mechanic that makes no freaking sense (and serves to nearly screw the galaxy over in ME3). Oh, and what horrible crosshairs? I mean, I think all reticle bloom is absolutely retarded no matter the game, but I never had a problem with it in ME1.Punk4Real wrote...
I actually played ME2 first and loved it so much I thought I'll go back and check out ME1.
Wow, the gameplay was just terrible. TERRIBLE. Especially the cooldown ammo mechanic and those horrible crosshairs. Its only saving grace was the story and awesome dialogue. But other than that, I hated it. It was a chore to play.
And out of all the things to complain about (the terrible inventory, the terrible UI, the terrible galaxy map controls, etc) you choose to complain about the shooting mechanics. Not the Virmire mission, where one of the biggest plot-holes in the series resides, but the shooting controls that were not only explained rather well, but only needed slight improvements in ME2.
Honestly, if you're going to complain about something, make that something at least make sense.

Not really that much as automatic loot.Without it,only picking what was worth it would make it tolerable.

I love Mass Effect 1. Because I'm not some grunt who likes to shoot things. The gameplay was fine as it is anyway.

I like Mass Effect 1. The game play wasn't that great but like the OP said the story was the best of the series. I really feel that as far as game play goes ME 2 and 3 are much much better but in terms of story I think ME 1 is the best. I think all 3 games have good stories. Overall ME 2 is my favorite of the series by far.

Mass Effect 1 sold a "Galaxy" better than any in the series, especially Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect 3 felt like a disconnected series of shooting galleries, with no continuity between them. Mass Effect 2 had the same problem, but to a lesser degree because you could still land on a lot of planets. But nothing will ever compare to airdropping the Mako and stepping out to literally an alien landscape.

ME1 kills all ME's without trying. i love them all and have written extensive reviews on their strengths. ME1 is simply tight like the dark knight
