Am I the only one who hates ME1?

Didn't have any problems with the gameplay or combat. Loved the Mako. The whole game had a sense of space exploration and new, strange worlds that I haven't felt since. Also preferred the Liara we meet in 1, didn't like her style in 2 and switched to Jack (one of the great character evolvements in ME3, sad that 3 is such a failure in other ways).
Has come to the realisation that BioWare isn't what I thought it was and accepted that ME universe ended with ME2, at least for me. Just started another ME1 playthrough to get once again be carried far, far away and have a blast doing it.
Basically nothing I don't like with ME1. Combat is no problem when you among other things realise the system where you have to be trained on the weapon you use and also utilise the special powers associated with it.
Can be an extremely long game if you want to. I'm 15 hours in and haven't even scratched the surface. Loads of interesting side-quests on the Citadel, which by the the way is vast and by far the best version out of the 3 games. Unfathomable that the Citadel we get in the sequels is much less interesting as it is just epic in ME1.

Playing ME1 again, then ME2, and now ME3. I can see how much the game has improved interms of graphics, GUI, and gameplay.
After ME2 and ME3, the only thing that gets me when I replay ME1 is the voice acting. ME2's voice acting was great, especially TIM. ME3's voice acting was even better, even Male Shepard in ME3's voice acting is such a huge improvement over ME2 and ME1.

Plus technically speaking 360 version is nigh unplayable and PC version can cause BSOD. At some point I've actually hoped for PS3 port due to the sheer chance of getting a version that is not screwed up. But judging by ME3 PS3 fiasco Bioware programmers are just ain't good.

Also not too bothered with the combat. It requires more tactical thought about where to use your powers. Combat is much easier in the next two games but I don't like the paper, rock, scissors method they came up with. It makes no sense that I can create a singularity that defies the laws of physics by bending space itself. Yet, it won't affect somebody in armour.

Playing Mass Effect one again really reminded me why I loved this series. Then I think about the series' ending and try to push these bad memories away until bioware finally adresses that issue. Hopefully that will be before i reach ME 3 in my new playthrough.....
So, to answer the thread question, I dont think youre alone in your hate of ME 1, but I dont think that your hate is justified. ME1 wasnt a shooter, is was an rpg slightly spiced up with shooter elements, which was why I liked it. If you want to play a shooter, buy battlefield or call of duty 5000 or sth.

ME1 sort of reminded me of an old game called Starflight I used to play when I was younger.

In my opinion, I should say :
Me1 :
RPG : +++
Action : +
Me2 :
RPG : ++
action ++
Me3 :
RPG : +
Action : +++
Don't misundertand what's above. RPG is still important in the triology but some things have been lost between every games. Good or not ? it depends on what you waited about the game.
In my opinion the sides quest in Me1 were important to discover the mass effect universe even if they don't have a true impact on the other mass effect games. In Me2 there were a few side quests exept if you take the squadmates quests as one. In that case the side quest define if you survive or not the ending. In ME3 it's quite the same with the war assets system.
I think players (me included) thought side quest should have more impact in the trilogy so they decided to make side quest more important for the game but it became somthing else between the side quest (no true impact) and the main quest (true impact). But doing so they "force" players to do those quests and it became more an action shooter than an rpg. what could lead to the famous three options you get starting ME3 Action/ Rpg/narrative.
Sorry for my english I've tried to be has clear as my english skills are.... :s
I should go !

Yes. Because you played dumbed down sequel first. ME had it's problems (slow planet exploration, broken inventory system, strange combat), but it was game that gave you feeling that you're merely little bug in vast space. Sequels were made to appeal larger audience (PS3 users in the first place), and that is always two-sided blade.
Not sure what you're getting at with that PS3 slight. I spent somewhere around 5-6 saturdays playing ME1 at a friend's house because he had it pn 360. ME1 could've been released as is on PS3 and seen similar fan growth. The expanded audience idea was an EA thing to bring in more than just rpg fans...which leaves us with Gears of not-so-Mass-Effect-2.

i get that this is the reason thy put it in in the first place, what i dont get is why the hell they dont have a "shut off" switch in there somewhereIntiakel wrote...
