ME1 was the best in the series in my opinion, I love ME2 and ME3 but it sometimes feels as if Bioware are trying to hard to create a Gears Of War shooter,
I still think they are great games but they just don't have that sense of exploration and classic sci fi feel of ME1.
ME1 I feels like I'm taking part in an epic sci fi movie.
ME2 & 3 feels more like a glorified shooting gallery with a decent story and great characters tact on.

Absolutely agree with this.  I also felt it had the best handling of relationships, with the opportunity to have unique cut-scene conversations with your squad after every major mission.

4. Insanity - insanity difficulty is all about the challenge... well, where is it? I breezed through it, there was no challenge!

You getting more experienced. Image IPB
But I think real challenge on Insanity is freaking spacebar. Killed my Shepard most. Image IPB

I hope it's not experiance, being able to fly through an Insanity run without dying once on your first attempt at it is a huge let down.

but i agree the one key/button does all was a bad idea... that caused me no end of issues when i was trying to get to grips with the controls.

Heh. I still remember the finale of that game. The elevator dies. You don your helmet and shoot out the window. Then you run up the side of a frickin' tower, tossing geth and krogan off into space and activating automated defense turrets and just generally being awesome and... and... running up the side of a frickin' tower!

ME2 gave us the suicide mission, which was a very good tactic to let you make strategic use of your allies. It was very well done, though the peek-a-boo game at the end of it was a little silly.

ME3 gave us... art.

I actually played ME2 first and loved it so much I thought I'll go back and check out ME1.
Wow, the gameplay was just terrible. TERRIBLE. Especially the cooldown ammo mechanic and those horrible crosshairs. Its only saving grace was the story and awesome dialogue. But other than that, I hated it. It was a chore to play.

Oh I loved Mass Effect 1! I played it BEFORE Mass Effect 2 though and I wonder does that make a difference. The relationships were so sweetly written, I'll never forget my Shepherds first kiss with Kaiden, that was a heart melting moment.Image IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPBImage IPB

I didnt mind game play stuff and I did like having an inventory I could manage myself, change outfits when I wanted etc. In Mass Effect 2 a lot of RPG elements were watered down or gone completely. Saying that it was still a great game.

Oh and the little buggy rides in ME 1 really were quite a lot of fun! Image IPB

I guess it is experience, whether you want it or not, you still learning. Unless you know some kung-fu allowing you to forget certain things on demand.Image IPB
But I'm not sure I'm qualify to give you answer, since my Shepard died. Well, I mean BEFORE ending. Image IPB

Anyway, generally I agree that Insanity is not that insane for most part. Rather annoying (also infuriating, enraging and pissing me off), like krogan chipping in ME1 or getting killed because of mighty spacebar. And I never been shooter guy.

Well, it helped me to kill my Shepard several times.

As someone previously stated, ME1 felt like being in an awesome sci-fi story while ME2 and ME3 felt like a shooter game which, in my opinion, they shouldn't.

Many people seem to favor ME2, especially in the gameplay department.

My personal opinion is that ME1 is the better game and while ME2 tried to improve on it, I did not care for most of the chosen alternatives.

Nah, ME1 was great. The controls really sucked, but I've had worse...

i liked the first mass effect and yes i liked the mako for the most part but the amount of planets you have to explore tends to really drag out the experience

ME1 really got me into the Mass Effect series (and after spending a good few hours poring through all the codex options and the mass effect wiki...). In fact, if any of you played Star Control 2, certain aspects of ME1 really reminded me of that game, the Mako exploration in particular; which I found to be rather fun, but the cookie-cutter side missions and maps didn't sit well with me though..
And the dialogue wheel and options were really good in ME1 (and improved in ME2).
But it must say a lot if I find that I can't bear to play a game a second time through without resorting to PC mods or something because of what I considered to be a generally grating combat system.
That said, I considered the xbox version unbearable because of the load times, so I only finished ME1 on the PC, unlike the rest of the trilogy which I bought and played across all platforms.
ME2 was certainly the better of the two games (and of thew whole trilogy, as per the ratings).

I played 2 hours of it and never touched it again, just watched a video to get the general important scenes out of the way because for the most part the story in ME1 is the only redeeming quality to it.

ME 1 is by far the best in the serie : High focus on exploration, genuine focus on characters (just compare the quality and depth of interactions with NPCs in ME1 and ME3...) truly epic galaxy saving scenario, and a story that tramples every other ME.

I mean, look at the story of the two other ME : it is glaring how underdevelopped they are, compared with ME1 !

Well, the shooting part is not as dynamic and fluid as in ME2 and ME3. Hey, it was an actual roleplaying game, not a third person shooter ! At some point, you have to know what you actually expect from a game.

There are just two things I hate about ME1, MAKO riding (on 360, mind you, heard they fixed it for PC) and game's combat (the moving is so clunky in that).

But they fixed both for 2nd game, so that was pretty great!

I've tried to replay ME1 several times now. But as soon as I have to recruit Liara, I can't go on. The MAKO is terrible and the gameplay is horrendous. I really can't force myself to play it.

I infact love ME1; yes...combat controlls are down right obsolete compared to ME2/ME1...but I love the more immersive environment, story and detailed RPG elements of customization...weapons / armor etc.
