for those who haven't bought it:

The Stargazer scene concept was taken from a seventh grade student from Berlin who sent a letter to Casey Hudson.
The boy stated that "It would be cool if Shepard had a child and this child was roaming around a cave and found a prophecy and knew what to do about it because he's Shepard's son."

Casey Hudson stitched that letter to his office door as a reminder that everybody should get at least, one piece of the ending which was the same for every player.

Why would a 7th grader be playing Mass Effect?
That seems a little... " odd" (putting it mildly)
evidently someone got into thier parents mass effect stash. ****ing little ninja

That can't be true... that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of if true.

So one little 13 year old had an impact on the story, yet Bioware refuses to allow thousands of disgruntled players get closure to a series they also adore?

Exactly

I think it's more likely that later on, Casey and Mac rolled a copious amount of marijuana up inside that letter, smoked it and -then- came up with the endings.

Mac Walters explains that "there's things of the story you don't need to know because they will always be less cool that what you had imagined for them"

It's probably already been said already, but:
Seriously? The fact that the Starchild "explains" the purpose of the Reapers completely contradicts this statement.

I'm guessing he's saying about the Relays exploding or the Normandy fleeing, because knowing for sure what happens is prolly less cool than speculating about it.

Is this fake? I don't see anyone saying otherwise... So I'll just go ahead and say that they completely failed on making me feel "certain feelings". It only made me want to come here and complain about how bad the endings were. If those were the feelings they were aiming for, then bullseye.

The purpose of the ending was not to provide closure but "to make sure players felt certain feelings so the end sequence was written to provoke these feelings" rather than provide story closure

Certain feelings... such as what? Anger? Disappointment? Annoyance? Buyer's remorse?

Well, if that's what Bioware was going for then congratulations, they've succeeded admirably.

Martin Sheen's dialogue was delayed from August to mid-november because Bioware was still "experimenting different endings"
"It had to be the end of Commander Shepards saga but there was still debate as wether he should die or not"

The stargazer scene wasn't all  that bad.  I don't take issue with it.  I only take issue with the current ending as is and being left as is.

Personally I like this quote "It had to be the end of Commander Shepards saga but there was still debate as wether he should die or not" Because its not the end to anything because its not an ending its just unmitigated garbage that makes no sense and doesn't even confirm if shepard is dead or not because of the destroy ending....

I wish Bioware would see this and wake up.
Their ending is a disaster of galatic proportions.

I have lost so much faith in them.

Everything that comes out about the ending sounds worse and worse.

First they tried to play it off.

Then the tried to spin it.

Then they tried to explain it.

Then they tried to promise some closure with DLC.

What was bioware thinking?  Imagine if Starwars ended this way.

and Mac Walters is totally right. In my opinion they shouldn't have shown Talis Face at all. Just leave it to the imagination of the players. There are so many incredible Fan-Arts of Tali in the internet, no of them would exist it They had shown Talis Face early in the games.

Wat.  There are tons of fan art for all the popular characters.

I hope to see Casey Hudson working in my local McDonalds by the end of the financial Quarter because that is just plain ridiculous.

1. Why the hell is a 12 year old playing Mass Effect? The kid was no older than 8 when the first game came out. EIGHT. Why the HELL would you take advice from someone who can't even legally purchase ANY of the games? To say this kid isn't a part of the intended audience is an understatement.

2. Why would a professional writer look at that, for any other reason than "D'AWW LOOK AT THE CHILDREN ITS SO CUTE", and think "Not only is that a fantastic idea, but I should pin it on my door! The other writers need to absorb its genius"

Those ideas are atrocious. Having a random kid out of nowhere? The single most cliche'd thing ever (A prophecy)?...A cave? No, little german child, no it would not be cool if any of those things happened. Thank you, however, for potentially destroying the ending of an otherwise brilliant game.

3. That's right Mac, there are parts of a story that people don't need to know. I don't need to know when My Shepard Eats, Sleeps or ****s and I don't need to know how old Garrus is or what his old house on Palavan looked like, for example...But what you have omitted are things like "Logic" and "Things consistent with established lore" and "What the ****? who is this kid and why am I listening to him?".

UGH GOOD GOD

That has annoyed me.

I've got the PC version of the app. The 7th grader had nothing to do with the ending, though maybe he helped partly inspire the sentiment behind the epilogue. The kid in the epilogue is NOT Shepard's son. The letter was pinned to Casey's wall because he was touched by it, that's all. I hate the starchild part of the ending and everything after that, but you guys are taking the 7th grader's letter way out of context.

Thank god somebody else has the app. I'd like to hear other interpretations of what I read there. But I believe that letter influenced Casey more than it should

Reading this thread depresses me.

Nothing about the ending works in the way these guys seemed to have wanted. My question? HOW IN GOD'S NAME DID THEY THINK IT WOULD!?!?!?!

It is just so amateurish, insulting and pointlessly bleak.

Replaying the game a second time only makes it worse because you know everything is about to go to sh!t. And there are so many moments in the game where Shep has to encourage others to keep fighting, and for what?

To reach StarChild, give up and experience no sense of victory.

Their ending isn't intellectual. Its bad.

Apparently ripping off every sci-fi property of the last 100 years and claiming that you're a great artistic visionary isn't enough. Had to rip off a 13 year old's idea to write the epilogue.

What a bunch of pretentious ****please insert your own word**** because my epithet will never be as good as the one you can IMAGINE.

They should not have had to debate about whether Shepard lives or dies. Deciding for the player would just be taking away choice. If you're going to end a series as we know it, there should be an option for a happy ending.

And that's a joke, I realize a 7th grader didn't make the ending and Casey wa just touched by it, though id clear that up :)
