I've only recently started to become familiar with the names/faces behind Bioware since joining these boards after the ME3 endings. Was Casey Hudson also the culprit behind DA2? Or was that someone else.

No, he had nothing to do with Dragon Age. DA and ME series are made by completely different teams.

Just as well really, otherwise we might have ended up with the star child controlling all the mages and templars lol.

What happnened to Bioware being grade A artists who won't change their products to please fans, then? That defense wears thinner by the day.

The team helped create the ME franchise, I'd give them a bit of credit for doing that. The series is amazing... I'm thinking as it was stated before, they're doing all this for controversy/possibly to get more sales etc. I'm assuming its what their publisher wants. I'll just wait it out now and see whats going to happen.

It was never a decent defense to begin with because they are a corporate developer who's vison is automaticaly guided by corporate interests.

for those who haven't bought it:

The Stargazer scene concept was taken from a seventh grade student from Berlin who sent a letter to Casey Hudson.
The boy stated that "It would be cool if Shepard had a child and this child was roaming around a cave and found a prophecy and knew what to do about it because he's Shepard's son."

Casey Hudson stitched that letter to his office door as a reminder that everybody should get at least, one piece of the ending which was the same for every player.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mac Walters explains that "there's things of the story you don't need to know because they will always be less cool that what you had imagined for them"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Martin Sheen's dialogue was delayed from August to mid-november because Bioware was still "experimenting different endings"
"It had to be the end of Commander Shepards saga but there was still debate as wether he should die or not"

1. I wonder what that kid thinks about the ending.
2. I agree, but they left out the wrong things. The focus was off.
3. Proof they where rushed and under pressure. Unfortunate, especially if they stick with it. Also an unfortunate topic of debate, as different endings could have been included and fleshed out. Something for everyone so to speak (the Reapers kill Shepard and the fleet with too low EMS,  dies taking down the reapers or survives and meets up with his team and LI on Earth) Now we got endings where things where shapard can either dead or "alive" (if he had high enough military support and was fine with killing Edi and the Geth, whom he/she just might had helped Shepard takes a breath - at least it might be shepard. Too bad he/she will never see his/her friends and LI again).

It is hardly grounds to attack Bioware staff, their integrity and capabilities.

Not the part about the kid, but their explanation of why they didn't provide any closure is reason enough for me to question their capability as writers. No person attacks, but serisously, this is just brain-dead stupid.

yes,get the app and read. As I said insight on ME3 is good, not only on polarizing parts. You get to see bioware HQ,s video interviews, concept art, a bit of back-history...

This can't be true, right? Bioware will put out a statement that they didn't rely on a 7th grade letter to construct the ending of a mufti-million dollar franchise...

It's just so disheartening.

Btw, if this is true, can we agree that the "artistic merit" argument is dead.

Also, how did the quality control people not make them rewrite the ending? What market testing was done?

What's up with videogame writers and weird inspirations? Hideo Kojima created Raiden for Metal Gear Solid 2 to appeal to Japanese schoolgirls who told him they didn't want to play as old guys.

So, we got the ending as it is because of bad fans feedback?

I did'n't want to just "feel stuff" i wanted an ending that made sense. To me it's like watching return Return Of The King and instead of the ending we got, we get an ending where everyone die's everything else is left ambiguous and then after the credit's have rolled we're treated to one last scene with a child asking to be told one more story about the ring.

This kinda tells how developers are touched by feedback. The more direct that feedback is, the better. Personal input touches them more than forum posts and statistics.

That about inspiration from a 7th grade kid invalidating it being art is BS. I Know you are angry, but inspiration can come from everywhere and everyone. That is not the problem. You are right about the quality control though. Its really mysterious that it went through. The only reason I can think of is that they ran out of time or were stressed out. Things can go really wrong when you are stressed out and under serious pressure.

You won't believe that this piece of trash here was made because a kid wrote a letter to the devs saying it was a cool idea.

Didn't they change the ending once already because of the leaked script?

I dont think the ending we got has anything to do with any sort of feedback its more an example of someone deciding to try and be an artist and not being very good at what they wanted to be an artist about delivering a badly done piece of crap and then saying they dont understand why people dont like it. There was no fan feedback involved in this attrocity of an ending, I highly doubt they got any fan feedback personal or otherwise that said

"hey you should make the ending so that it totaly makes everything in the series pointless and introduces a completely new plot at the last minute and please make the ending the same endign with different colors so i dont get too confused since I will be busy tryign to figure out what the new plot has to do with the plot of the game series"

but thats what we got

The game is rated M for mature isn't it? Should a 7th grade student be playing it?

It almost the same, may be even worst.

also, I don't understand about 'artist' they bring up. Didn't they let us choose how femshep look like, is that
what they called artist?

no its invalidated as having artistic vision as a defense because its been changed already due to funding, corners have already been cut so its artistic vision is compromised already by the artist themselves. The idea that they ran out of time and were stressed out is probalby true, but it is NOT a defense for believing that the ending of a 100+ long trillogy should not end annything just make people feel stuff and that this is somehow good writing and will be widely accepted. In fact anyone with an ounce of literary education would tell you that this is BAD writing and is likely to create the exact opposite of acceptance. There is no excuse for this ending even having thought of as a decent idea other than a total disconnection with reality. The problem is that everythign we are seeing is showing that the ending was not rushed because of pressure or stress it was in fact actualy intended to be this piece of unmitigated garbage we recieved from the beginning because of this disconnection with reality and THAT is what is completely unacceptable if its true.

I'm a mom of three (my kids are usually great) but I never want to see another kid in a game ever again.

Let's make me feel like my soul is crushed. Great ending. Really made me feel something. Good job Bioware.
