I think it had to do with the character development.

In ME3, all the cool characters are mostly developed in ME and ME2.

In ME3, the characters are mostly like oh you remember me right, well go back and play ME2 if you dont remember, cause I'm about to die. *dies*

Don't get me wrong they do a good job at reintroducing kaidan/ashley.
And james vega is an awesome new addition, I love his attitude, its nice to have another squadmate like garrus and grunt that you don't have to worry about emotionally babysitting them.

And I love what they did with EDI. EDI is now my new favorite squadmate by far, but only because I couldn't get Grunt back on my team.

Also though I'm pissed I cant get grunt and his goddamn glorious attitude back on my team, I absolutely LOVE what they did with him, and I wish they did it with more of the ME2 squadmates you saved.
Going on to bigger and better things leading his own squad and just tearing **** up, again not needing to be babysat and going on to bigger and better things.

I think they did a good job at this with Wrex and Liara in ME2 as well, leader of the Krogan horde and the Shadowbroker, I couldn't be more proud of them. They aren't breastfeeding off shepard anymore, they've graduated shepard's galactic bootcamp and are aiding her as a force multiplier.

But I guess what I'm getting at is
1) That ME3 didn't do as much to develop these previously developed characters. You'll never fully appreciate Wrex, Liara, Garrus without playing ME and ME2. ME3 just doesn't really develop them as well or as much.
2) The ME2 characters just get killed off in an extremely forced fassion for adding war assets, or get shipped off to work on the giant space penis.
3) Hardly any new characters are developed besides kai leng, james vega, and samantha.

So I am not saying ME3 is bad, just that ME and ME2 were so much more memorable experiences due to the characters that were developed. ME3 almost feels like a really large expansion pack for ME2.
