Petition: Please don't make a Happy Ending DLC
#51
Posté 24 mars 2012 - 05:39
We want the 16 original endings we were promised that were affected by our choices from ME1, ME2 and our play through of ME3. So one of the possible endings would be a happy ending. Then there would be the other endings from bleak black Shepard sacrifices her/himself to various shades of grey in between.
Making a petition to not even have one possible happyish ending is just childish in my opinion.

If it was the case, nobody would be puting a knife under you throat to buy it and instal it.
You just want people who don't like the same things as you to stay unsatisfied, that's productive and provocative.

So I would say the option for an happy end is justified. Not all people want death and decay as result of their deeds.

Not just the winner, but by a wide margin.Bfler wrote...
There are polls in almost ever forum related to Mass Effect and in most cases the Happy End option is the winner. Also look at the romance section here in this forum. It is full of people who would like to see an end with the LI and Shepard alive, what I consider as happy end.
So I would say there the option for an happy end is justified. Not all people want death and decay as result of their deeds.
My Shepard has plans after the war. If that's going to be taken away, it had best be for a damn good reason. "So I can destroy galactic civilization and screw over the fleet I brought together" does not qualify. No amount of "clarification" will change the fact that that's exactly what we did.

It's not possible to have a "happy" ending given the state of the galaxy. But it is possible to have an ending where Shepard at least lives (and does NOT REQUIRE MP). That would satisfy a great number of people I think and give replayability to the trilogy.
This I agree with. The fact that we're losing the war badly at the beginning of Priority:Earth means the final assault should yield at least a few casualties. I would like a happy ending if it's not done cheaply.
There were posters in an old thread who say they want an LOTR ending. I think a more apt comparison to this is Silmarillion: a fight against foes with near impossible odds. (don't actually remember the ending of Silmarillion)
Added: I know some people are treating ME as an escapist entertainment, plausibility be damned. I can accept that. I'm just stating what I prefer.

Considering the game has always been about player building their own character and narrative, doesn't it make more sense to have the option? Personally I think SOME of my shepards should die and some should live. Whatever completes their story most appropriately.
I know a lot of people out there would LIKE a happy ending option. Why rob them of that? You would like a sad ending, so you should get one. If someone else would like a happy ending, they should get one too. Then we all have the appropriate end to our story

Strawmen and ad hominems are the weapons of choice for the pro-ending crowd.
That is because there are no good ones.

Yes lets keep the emo ending because thats not cliche either.
Endings are so clichéd, that's why ME3 doesn't have one.

It's stupid, why would they add just a happy ending? They should add a Very bad, bad, pretty bad, okay, pretty good, good and very good ending.
* Reapers win, Normandy destroyed in battle, Shepard dies, Cycle continues (Liara Archive epilogue)
* Reapers defeated, Normandy destroyed in battle, Shepard dies, Relays intact (Memorial epilogue)
* Reapers defeated, Normandy survives battle, Shepard dies, Relays intact (Funeral epilogue)
* Reapers defeated, Normandy survives battle, Shepard lives, Relays intact (LI/crew reunion, hardest to earn)
It would be easy for them to implement, too. See the poll in my sig.

It would have been easy to put this in right from the start, but they didnt.
So I wouldnt get my hopes up.

This. And it just -baffles- me that Bioware couldn't come up with something so simple (No offense, DeinonSlayer).
Also: Voted for your idea in your poll.

Adding a Disney Movie ending just to please a bunch of whiners would be a huge disappointment in my opinion. I hope Bioware has the guts to stand behind their original game design.
OP, did you even played ME3? I do not see any game registered on your avatar.
If you played at least ME2, you would know that ME games (well, except ME3) have many endings (happy, not very happy, sad and tragedy) and you can get what you like. This was one of the best selling point of the game (your choices mattered and you could make difference in outcome). We just want same for ME3 ending, that's all. So do not worry, tragic variation of the ending must stay or it would not be ME ending again. On the other hand, without happy ending variation, this will not be ME ending as well.
Any way for some reason people forgetting about dozens of billions of people that were slaughtered by Reapers -- hardly a Dysney Movie, so this always bring huge bitterns in any ending. Nobody asking for magical solution to undo those deaths, just for some people these deaths are already bringing enough bitterness and sadness to the ending.

Ever thought that maybe the ending is obscure and ambiguous on purpose?

Now... any specific reason why?
