Actually, I figured the problems in the Kirkwall Circle were a combination of things -- the damaged/thinned Veil, the Templars' abuses, the inability of either side to hold a civil discussion, Meredith's insanity and the Revered Mother's disinclination to attempt mediation. It was, obviously, an extreme situation. Unfortunately, the speed with which DA2 was rushed out the door clearly had a deleterious effect on the storyline, so it's really difficult to care overly much one way or the other. I was ready to blow up the Gallows with the whole lot of them in it by the time the end of Act III arrived. Actually, if Anders had blown up the Gallows rather than the Chantry, I wouldn't have been so inclined to stick a shiv in him.

Not to mention, there is codex that Cory for Legacy could be behind some of the madness as well.
Speculations on Kirkwall:
The records say Corypheus has been trapped below the Vimmarks since the days of the Tevinter Imperium. Can it be a coincidence that the darkspawn besiege this area more fiercely than anywhere else on the surface of Thedas? Or that Kirkwall, the closest city, suffers from endless plagues of violence, lunacy, human sacrifice, and blood magic?
If one studies Kirkwall's public records, it becomes hard to deny that some malevolent force has long shaped its history. Could a darkspawn, even a powerful mage, have such influence even as it slumbers?
—From a weathered journal bearing the Grey Wardens' seal
[/i]It seems Cory moonlights as Freddy Krueger, so maybe he is a Somniari/Dreamer.
Which would be awesome, but anyway....
I think he should have just kept on gathering bomb suppiles. Then give everyone a week to evacuate, before blowing Kirkwall skyhigh. With it's history, Kirkwall should have been bulldozed a long time ago.

For example Orsino instead of surrender Quentin to Templars, assisted him, and as result Hawk's mother died, well you know she lost her head. Of course it's not that big as civil war but still gives you some ideas right?
How long it has been? 1k years since Andreste's fire party? So for one thousand or more years mages were prisoners right? so that means that mages are very slow. Or they are very lazy, to prove that magic exists to serve man and not rule over him. In that case they deserve all that fall or coming to them.
All this fade, possession and circled mages reminds me warp, daemonic possessions and sanctioned psykers from another setting. And i am pretty sure ideas for Mages in DA setting were taken from another game universe. So i can call mages as mutants from mankind. In that case all is simple isn't it?
But in DA setting Chantry made a mistake to have pity on those... beings. So i guess it's chantry to blame after all that mages are so... human.

I doubt it. It's specifically stated that he can only affect beings that bear the Taint. Which we see since he used Janeka to bring the Carta there and get them tainted, so he could control them.

I'll give in that he can only directly influence beings that bear the Taint, but Cory is still an unknown on many other fronts. We don't know if he kept his connection to the Fade, being a mage, after he got warped by the Taint. And if he did really physically enter the Fade, as one of the Magisters of Old; would that have an effect on his connetion to the Fade as well. Even has a darkspawn?
The big question i guess is... Did Cory enter the Fade when they put him to sleep to inprison him? And if he did, would does a very powerful mage do when they are trapped in the Fade for over a thousand years?
Go insane i'd imagine...

If he is though, it's probably unknowingly.
Anyway, regarding this:

Surprisingly, he didn't seem to go insane. At least, not to me he didn't. He certainly lost track of time and was severely confused, but I'd say he was still sane.

In all fairness the mages aren't given the opportunity. It's one of the weird things about the Chantry/Templar stance that they drone on and on about how magic is to serve man but rarely, if ever, give mages the opportunity to do so. It's sad that the time they spent lighting candles was the greatest amount of service they were ever allowed and that pre-dates the Circle system.

While it's true we don't know how he may have changed, I'm not sure that Corypheus is to blame for Kirkwall's events, even partially.
If he is though, it's probably unknowingly.
Cory subconsciously broadcasting the thoughts/feelings/mentality of a Magister, during the bloodbath days of the Imperium? Scary, scary thoughts.
It could be possibly. I just wish we had more lore background on him and his abilities.
Though the more i wonder about him, the more weirder and weirder theories keep popping into my head. Now it's about some weird Fade residue/energy that is left on beings that physically enter the Fade. The Taint (and beings carrying it) are drawn to it, and touching the being it corrupts that energy and wraps the being into a darkspawn/Archdemon.
Which would explain "the Call" Cory and the Old Gods unknowingly puts out when they are asleep/inprisoned.
Bah, too many hairbrained theories.
Surprisingly, he didn't seem to go insane. At least, not to me he didn't. He certainly lost track of time and was severely confused, but I'd say he was still sane.
Give him a plate ofcookiesbrownies, a glass of warm milk, and the latest issue of Imperium Today and he'll be caught up on current events and happy.
Maybe not insane, but his inprisonment screwed up his mind a tiny bit. He didn't remember any of his darkspawn days (that we know of). Though it would be funny, if his inprisonment broke his mind back to normal. The trip to the Fade, and his time as a darkspawn, drove his insane. The inprisonment though, drove him further off the ledge enough that it looped back to sane-ness.
I doubt it, but the thought's funny.
The brownies, warm milk, and issue of Imperium Today might be nice, but i doubt he would be happy though. He still has to: get back to Tevinter, kill all the Magisters/Archon to get his leadership back, crush/enslave the Qunari, and conquer all of Thedas is the name of the Tevinter Imperium!!!
After that, i'm sure he will cuddle up in his new favorite wing back chair, with a warm blanket (made from 100% kitten fur) and his favorite book (Enslavement for the Ages).

Cory enter the golden city , he seeks the "light" , the chant of light?Maybe the taint just sing a bad tune of the once golden city.
The Architect who look a lot like Cory didn't remember where he was from neither , he was different from the others because he could still think pretty clearly .
I don't think they are mad but they probably touch something so beyond them that their brain couldn't follow.
The thing I wonder is why did they seek the "Light"?The Chantry says the magister went to the fade for power , because they were arrogant.Cori made me feel like it was something else.
And i would really like if it was something else ...like yeah old magisters were bad they kill a lot of slaves but they had to enter the fade because something awful was happening ...

But for every story, there is a grain of truth. The deal with Cory made me seriously reconsider my stance on the Chantry, but in the end, my stance didn't change much. His memory and the Chantry's timeline don't match, the motives, don't match, and we saw an example of blood magic, used by an apostate, used for the greater good.

The Chantry has a warped version to match their own beliefs. They pick and choose what they want to believe, and the Chantry only started to rise 100 years after Andraste's death. They more than likely misinterpret a lot.

More or less my opinion on the matter.
Additionally, we also read about blood magic being used for the same purpose in DAO. If you look at the Black Vials codex, some of them -- if not all -- talk about how there are blood seals laid on the scraps of paper.

MY feeling Orsino was a blood mage and Alrik was set up by Meredith. Either way she deals witha problem. if it works mages are dealt with, it it doesn't, an abusive templar has been got rid of.
Everything we have seen so far thas been filtered through a white chantry lens. The major belief of Thedas, the questioning by a militant arm.
Now Varric probably did give enough clues to what happened and probably the broad strokes. but telling the unvarnished truth - doubtful.

And of course there are hundreds of blood mages. Everyone forgets that Varric is a born storyteller. Embellishments deviations and lies. A few clues. Also never forget that Varric is telling the story to a templar. If a mage caught him, all the enemies would be templars, with a few rotten mages. Here of course the enemies would be mages with a few rotten templars.

In unused dialogue that's up on a certain video site, Cassandra calls Varric out on his blood mage embellishments.
