ME3 Insanity would be fine if they increased cooldowns of ALL the powers in the game by 50%, at least. Considering how powerful most of the powers are, their cooldown is ridiculously low. Especially since it is easy AND efficient to be at or near 200% recharge speed bonus.

If you wanna more of a challenge, make sure your cooldown bonus is around 0% (+-10%).

XD not a problem for Soldiers... dont use powers much anyways and even if I wanted to.. there is no nice power to use. Just the insane flaming Particle Riffle and Defense Matrix works very well for me thus far. Cant wait to see how effective this will be when I return to London

Yeah, Insanity was slightly too easy with my level 30 imports, but it was still immensely fun! My Adept barely fired a shot and made biotic detonations do all the work and my Infiltrator blew everyone into chunks of ice.

Although that said, I started a CQC/Shotgun Sentinel yesterday and I'm ashamed to admit it, but I died 4 times on the first N7 mission alone. Tech Armor didn't seem to add much in the way of damage protection and it just slows everything down. Plus I was trying to use the Katana shotgun which...isn't brilliant to say the least. It'll perk up when I get hold of the Eviscerator though.

I actually find the Katana to be better than the Eviscerator and the Claymore in ME3... especially after Mods and upgrades. The Evi and Claymore just isnt as they once were.

I'll give it another go. I think I may have been having an off day yesterday. :P

Tech Armor was really nerfed from ME2.  I don't even use it anymore with my own Sentinels in SP.  I just reset their powers and spent points on other powers and made them more like the ME1 Sentinel.  I'd say that if you want to emulate the ME2 Tech Armor you should go for Defense Matrix instead, since you can "break" it to regain shields.

Yeah, it's definately taken a huge nerf. I did toy with taking Defense Matrix as a bonus power but I didn't intend to use it as a replacement for Tech Armor. Instead, I was going to use it to stack damage protection (which supposedly can be done), but the resulting double cooldown penalty put me off. I think i'll experiment with different setups.

I don't think its got easier, considering the insta-kill grenades and up close insta melee deaths. I just think that the improved combat: More fluidity, combat rolls, the whole cool down system, mod system, the greater class balance (though vangaurd still sucks on insanity, but engineer kicks all kinds of ass) led to the game becoming a lot less hard. Oh yeah, and infinite sprint has saved my life so many times.

Let me know if you find anything interesting!  I'm tinkering with other class setups but don't really have anything for Sentinel beyond the no-Tech Armor approach.

Only two things killed me on my soldier run through insanity:

1) Grenade (2-3 times when other sound effects played over top the beeping)
2) Spacebar monster (once or twice) when trying to take cover, not hop over it.

Insanity was a lot easier in ME3 than the previous two installments, but I could care less as I never played ME3 for the challenge, but rather for the story.

I did a fresh character run on insanity and it was brutal. The imported level really gives you an edge.

If I want a challenge I play multiplayer. SP is for story. Sentinel + Liara, and enemies go boom as soon as they appear.

I must be a bit weird as i find ME2 MUCH easier than ME3...even on my insanity adept run I rarely died in ME2 yet I die quite frequently in ME3 even on normal settings.
For me ME3 is much tougher than ME2..:dunno

Mass Effect 3 has been increasedin difficulty abit

ie. Normal in ME2 is equivelant to the Veteran in ME2.

That has nothing to do with difficulty, they are random things that have very little (if anything) to do with skill. It's artificial difficulty, on par with ME1 snipers, rockets and those projectiles fired by the largest of Geth - they were the only things that could kill you, getting hit was more or less bad luck.

I just think that the improved combat: More fluidity, combat rolls, the whole cool down system, mod system, the greater class balance (though vangaurd still sucks on insanity, but engineer kicks all kinds of ass) led to the game becoming a lot less hard. The combat visuals and sound effects have been improved, but that's it. A lot of "reviewers" praise ME3's "improved" mobility. That's not entirely true. In fact mobility is pretty bad. Not because moving from cover to cover, rolling around (which I think is (and looks) rather silly) is a bad thing - it's great - but because everything is "controlled" through the same button (Spacebar on PC) makes moving around a pain in the ass. This one-button-for-everything is resposible for nearly all the times I've died in SP.

The cooldown system is a mess (there are no cooldowns anymore unless you go to town with an armory on your back). The weapon mod system is OK but weapons are not needed (for most classes) anyway. class balance was great in ME2 - every class had its pros and cons, and some performed better against different types of enemies. In ME3 all that doesn't matter.

I think it's more accurate to say that ME2 Veteran is the new ME3 Insanity.

I guess we owe that to the added multiplayer component ... They speed up combat  to increase the pace in the multiplayer enviroment ...

^^ yeah, don't like it in MP either.

The one thing I've always liked about ME gameplay is the combination of using weapons, special powers and teamwork. ME1's problem was that you use powers to make yourself invincible and/or disable all enemies, weapons were used to clean up already defeated foes. ME2 had a good balance between powers and weapons (and teamwork too). ME3 is about spamming powers - weapons have a secondary role at best.

The weight-cooldown system is the problem. Good idea, very badly implemented.

just start a new game from level 1. You will be assured a much
more difficult experience, for power dependent or weapon dependent
classes (no strong powers until you're leveled up a bit, and very
weak weapons at the start). Do an import game if you want the
"easy mode" mass effect 3 experience. Also, don't use the
heavy weapons provided in some of the more difficult encounters.

There you go... An "insane insanity" experience, ready to go,
right now.

I played the whole game through with 1 weapon (Paladin pistol) and adrenaline rush...

Look, I could propably beat the game by only using melee and the regular pistol (without any powers)... That's how easy ME3 is. However, restricting my gameplay to a certain style doesn't make it fun. That is boring.

The game should be the one restricting you, so that you have to think carefully what weapons you take to each mission, encase it's close quarters or sniping etc.

The game should be the one punishing you if you take the wrong weapons with you, or make mistakes.
Not the other way around...

It's like saying that I would play up against a bad computer program in chess, should I limit my moves by not using the queen in the game at all to win? That would not make it much fun...

Really? I would love to see vids on Soldier with only regular pistol and melee. With no power at all; including squad power.

ME3 is easier than ME2. But not as pathetic as you make it.

I am happy to be proven wrong by vids.

[edit]
Maybe not all vids. Just fight Kai Leng on insanity with a soldier arm with only a pistol without using any power would validate your claim.

this. my first character was a fresh sentinel and i did it on insanity. the game took me about 30 hours to beat, and was plenty challenging. when i imported my VG, the game was pretty much a joke. and the NG+ with the sentinel is really easy as well.

Yes insanity is way too easy. I found out the reason, all the difficulty has been absorbed into Marauder Shields.

They listened to too many whiners, took some drugs, then implemented changes.

"Oh no, biotics are useless in Mass Effect 2 on Insanity. I can't use them at all. Nevermind the fact that I didn't bother to learn the mechanics of the game."

Solution: Most enemies have no protections. Even on Insanity.

"My favorite power doesn't work on every enemy. Why can't they improve the game so it is useful. By the way, I never bothered to learn the mechanics of the game or how to utilize the squad effectively."

Solution: Now each power practically works everywhere and on any enemy.

"Stasis is only mostly overpowered when you exploit it. I want it to be overpowered just by casting it.  By the way, I never bothered to learn the mechanics of ME2 so that I could use all the other powers effectively, let alone my squad or weapons."

Solution: Stasis has a bubble evolution, enemies take damage in it, and it can be detonated.

"Why do Soldiers get to carry every weapon? I want to take every gun on my Adept because I never learned the mechanics of the game and how to use the SMG and Pistol effectively."

Solution: All weapons available to every class. Make a token attempt at balancing by adding a weight capacity affect on cooldowns.

"Why should I even have to carry a weapon as an Adept or Engineer? I want powers to be so awesome that I don't need them.  If you couldn't guess, I didn't bother to learn the mechanics of the game and when I should use each power or weapon."

Solution: Increase damage of all powers to everything, and break cooldown system such that you can still take a couple of the most effective weapons and still have max cooldown bonus. But make sure that Warp behaves in an odd fashion with a relatively long cooldown for no apparent reason.

"Uh... all these changes seem like they are making soldier a bit obsolete since powers are more effective than most weapons. Can we make sure soldier isn't terrible?"

Solution: Decrease cooldown on Concussive Shot so that at least you can spam a semi-useless power that does little damage. Add instant-reload to Adrenaline Rush and the ability to use a different power while in it so that it isn't a completely useless power. But this power needs to be mediocre so make sure that damage protection and time dilation are scaled back. And make sure that you can't use Marksman with it. Otherwise you might be as good as a caster class.

"Sentinel is so overpowered. I can't believe that I could run into hordes of enemies. Nevermind that I didn't learn how to play any other class correctly, and I can do that with several others if I am not totally terrible."

Solution: Completely redo Tech Armor so that it becomes at least as bad as Adrenaline Rush. Try to persuade people to play Adept, Vanguard or Engineer instead.

I found ME2 easier on higher difficulties, too. Strange, I guess if the majority has the opposite impression I must be wrong. I found combat a lot more "controlled" in ME2, I felt I had a better control of the field 99% of the time, while sometimes in ME3 I just find myself cornered. I mean, I don't die, but still, I sweat a lot more.

ME3 is harder at the start, at least as an Adept as grenades one hit you and getting out of cover as lvl 1 is in most cases a death sentence too. Other then that the more powerful you get the easier it gets compared to ME2.
ME1 was still more a joke as an Adept as you could just cc everything.
