Does the lack of a happy ending bother you, or the lack of closure?

Both, to be honest.

Lack of closure is the most obvious problem, but the lack of being able to go for a happy ending if the player wants to do so is also an issue IMO. Note that I'm talking about the option of being able to go for it, not one canon ending to rule them all.

After all, the ME games very often let the player choose how s/he wants to handle a certain situation or how the player's Shepard reacts to it, so not having that option at the very end of the game is a really, really weird design choice.

Both. I spent half the night thinking about child's logic and how it all sounded...illogical.....and the choices we really had in the end. But knowing that ME3 will be Shepard's last adventure and that OUR journey ends here, i kinda hoped we would have the change to see her/him having a life after the war ends...
its hard to say good bye to a char you love..its even harder to do that knowing he/she-we will have a tragic end and wont have the chance to see the outcome of what she/he-we acomplished.....
I just wanted to know what happened after her sacrifice to the rest of the univerce and my team....and ...yes, i would like to have a chance to have her alive with her LI....just 1 more choice actually...not that hard........so it would not let me feel ...empty and with so many questions after...

Both.

I don't think I'm the only one who said that.

Abstaining from the fact that both of the issues make me angry, the insignificance of the decisions and their outcomes made in all the 3 games in the end of this trilogy bothers me most. Probably on account of the promises made by BioWare regarding the end. Shame... and that's it - I am sure they don't care about that. Life's brutal :P

Closure might be one thing, the options wern't clear and I don't know how anyone can trust an entity thats been mass murdering every 50000 years for millions or billions of years. Also compared to the cure quest arch and the Quarrian geth quest line the end story isn't anywhere close as well done or emotional. Also the last conversation with that catalyst seems unreal. It's very much out of character for Shepard any of the possible shepards to just accept the options given without even an objection or complaint or trying to renegotiate the terms. Seriously, the options given have very serious and farstretching implications for all life, its not like ordering coffe at a coffeshop.. Which could be hard enough... :P Also the earth end battle wasn't as epic and heroic as I would have hoped. It was after all the culmination of all 3 games, the biggest battle in the history of the galaxy and the most important one for millions of years.... It lacked feeling that made you get emotionaly involved unlike the genophage and quarrian geth conflict.

It would have been nice if you would have been more involvedin the overall battle planning and actualy feelt responsible when it was all falling appart around you and actualy get closer to the other peopel fighting it out against the reapers. I realy liked the end game play of ME2 I was hoping this would be even more epic.
Also some people might be a little dissapointed that Harbinger doesn't show at all after his challenge when you evacuate the Collector base, he only shows up at the end burning you with his beam weapon then flys away. He isn't the big boss, the catalyst is but he's the catalysts lieutenant. a bit liek the illusive mans Kai lang.

1. joker was stranded, dont think he went through the relay though he just used the normandys FTL masseffect drive thats is used inside starclusters.. I guessing they crash landed on an inhabitable world somewhere near the Sol system. No relay would be needed... They just need a working starship. if they can't fix the normandy then they need a distress beacon and hope that there are a few spaceworthy ships or shuttles left.. or that some get built soon to rescue them.

Closure was needed, more in depth conversation with the catalyst, some epic speaches, and a stupid stonewalling immature ancient AI stonewalling and failing to understand.
More action and events that shows the scope of the fight hapening... maybe one of those Volus bomber corvetes coudl crash into a building next to you and kill some reaperforces that had just begun shooting at you. Some more atmospheric dogfights. more sideline action.
Maybe meet an injured soldier and patch him up with some medigel or punch him and tell him to get out of your way if your a real jerk. The whole earth mission was a zombie shooter gallery where you got disconected from the people you we're trying to save. It was good but it could have been so much better. It needed a little bit more heart wrenching drama and action. More wounded or dead soldiers littering the streets and buildings. The art that was there was good but it didn't seem finished. I loved that fighter that crashed into an harvester and crashed right next to you on that turian moon. Seeing as this battle was far bigger far more condensed and involved a lot mroe friendly troops and ships and reaper forces I would have expected it to be more spectacular.
