Does the lack of a happy ending bother you, or the lack of closure?

For me the ending to Mass Effect was great, you seen your crew and appear out of the rubble, even if it was just that for Mass Effect 3 I could live wth that, i'd like more and some dialogue with Kaidan and Garrus and others but for me the ending to the first game ended a lot better!

Lack of closure bothered me a bit. I would have liked to know what happened.
Lack of making any sense bothered me the most. Too much space magic. Too much that wasn't explained.

some seem to think that we want shepard and everyone to live and have a big party on the normandy as we look down from the window on death reapers.
The journey towards the ending is not a happy one to begin with you lose friends
there is war, destruction from the reapers etc. many people lose loved ones , there homes
there worlds.
For me Happy ending means choice and closure , why does shepard have to die ?
i dont see any logic in this , if there was a ending where he lived that would not automatically make it a happy ending in my opinion , at the end could still look back on what youve lost
but also on what youve still got..
in me 2 you could lose all team members or save them all , i can understand that saving every single character in me 3 is impossible ( and stupid ) but my point is there was choice and it
depended on how well you did thru the game , in me 3 i hand everything over to bioware , and
let them drive shepard to the ending they wanted to see.
There was no closure, no control , no choice.
thats what i want to see changed, i also want to see our gameplay matter, our choices matter
benefits of gathering war assets, the outcome of those and a ending that doesnt leave
you with a bunch of questions and plotholes.

Shepard's already died once, that should be plenty for most. I wanted a variety of possible outcomes.
In addition, I wanted a vasriety of outcomes that MADE SENSE!

This. There should be the possibility of a 'good' ending... but we should have to work our tails off to get it.

It wasn't just the unhappy ending.
It wasn't just the lack of closure.
It was the fact that everything your character says seems out of place, the starchild is unexplained and confusing, your character willing accepts their flawed logic despite the narrative of the story proving that organics and synthetics CAN live together in harmony. The ending has the unexplained Normany flying away sequence, and the fact that all the fleets of the galaxy are stranded over Eath in the Sol System.

if one of the possible endings is happy, that would be awesome. i'd like to see that my shep could live happily ever after. but if the writers have been shorted their zoloft and they want only sad endings, that's fine as well. just give us an ending.

Closure is more important than that it be happy, but...
Even under the circumstances, in this completely messed up galaxy, there is no reason that Shepard couldn't survive and live with his/her love interest for the rest of their lives.
It doesnt' have to 'reset' like the end of a Star Trek: Next Generation episode, and shouldn't. There's still a great deal of death and ruin around and that should be acknowledged. But it *does* have to end on a "rebuilding" note.
Instead, Bioware chose to try to wipe the slate clean by writer fiat in the worst possible way, damaging the studio's reputation and future profits by enraging and depressing the fan base with a horrible, apocalyptic ending.

In regards to the lack of a happy ending what irritated me was that there wasn't even and "option" or ability to attain a happy ending. I was expecting the noble sacrifice to occur but The lack of any possibility of attaining a happy ending was really frustrating.

What I really hoped for was a much better Reaper origin story and Return of the Jedi style ending topped off with the 2009 Star Trek movie ending with the Normandy jumping through a mass relay. Obviously it would be clichéd, but at least I would react better and know Bioware could pick the series up again if they wanted to and continue Shepard's story.

C. The lack of quality and consistency
The ending we have is dependent on a deus ex machina, is not thematically consistent with the rest of the game, doesn't connect well to the events of the rest of the game, doesn't continue the franchise's hallmark style of interogative dialogue, does not bring closure to the events of this chapter and the trilogy as a whole, and generally is poorly executed.
Hold the line.
This.
Oh wait you're not allowed to choose an option that the catalyst doesn't give you..

Followed by the lack of sense.
My paragon romanced Thane in ME2. I wasn't expecting a happy ending going into it.
Doesn't mean the option shouldn't be there though with a lot of hard work.
