I've seen some really creative names out there, what's the story behind yours?
Mine's rather boring. After sitting at the new game menu for an hour trying to think of names, I eventually just thought "Screw it," and looked at the top ten most popular baby names. Hence, Emily Shepard.
Anyone here give their Shep a middle name?
How did you come up with your Shepard's name?

Colin and Isabelle were names I always liked. No big story behind them. And Matthew is my actual first name, so I guess you could say my mom named that character.
I rolled a male Shep just to see what the Liara romance looked like, so I didn't bother changing his name. Oddly enough, he's the only male Shep whose face I customized and I found myself getting a bit attached to him. Gonna have to wait until they fix the import bug before I play him.

Jamie for my ManShep just because I liked the name. Kaliya for my FemShep came up while I was playing around with word roots because I'ma dork.
I gave Jamie a middle name. His full name is James Morgan Shepard, though only Mom calls him that
No middle name for my FemShep. I think Kaliya Shepard-Vakarian is enough of a mouthful.

Raas. I just used my shorthand code-name for all things where I don't want to put my real name.
Now, I pretend that was a street name he adopted on Earth in place of his unknown birth name. But now he prefers just being called "Shepard" to move on from that life, and people know not to call him by his first. It makes it a lot more bearable to only be called Commander, Shepard, and Commander Shepard (... or Shepard-Commander).

I've always liked 'unisex' female names for some reason - Ashley, Kelly, etc. Unfortunately, both of those were taken, so I had to find another source for my FemShep. Wanted something interesting, and that could equally exude 'military strength' and 'subtle femininity', depending on context.
In the end, it was Summer Glau's character in 'Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles' that gave me the answer - she was called 'Cameron Phillips', so I decided that Cameron it would be.
Fit the voice and the face I'd chosen to a tee - really fond of the character in my play-through, and how she's turned out.

Anyone here give their Shep a middle name?
My second canon (Sheploo) is named "Michael" - since it's my IRL name PLUS he definitely resembles Archangel Michael. After all, he's fighting demons ...
My canon is named "Jacob" - since 2008.

Rhianna my Spacer Shep's name is combination of her mother and father's names (Richard and Hannah Shepard).
I don't know why I chose the name Sara for my Colonist Shep, but I did give her a middle name, Marie. Which is her maternal grandmother's name, as well.
And my Earthborn Shep was named Nadia by my sister, which funnily enough that name means "hope". Which neither of us knew at the time.

Esperanza, Robin and Rhiannon.
Rhiannon for mythology. Robin because she's the cute little happy one (or was starting out), and Esperanza for meaning. Hard to beat a big damn hero with a name that kind of means hope and optimism.

I thought Esperanza was Spanish for sunrise/sunset?
I probably should've paid more attention in high school Spanish class.

I wanted a bit more masculine name for my renegade FemShep, and I also wanted it to sound a bit like my paragon's name (Juliet after the character from Lost). I had just started watching Scrubs at the time, so I named her Elliot.

My first Shepard I created was given the nickname "Rex" hence John "Rex" Shepard. Thought it be a cool nickname. My canon MaleShep is named after myself. My two FemSheps were named after girls I liked back who knows when. My only black MaleShep got the name Jerome based off of a book my friend wrote. Another MaleShep got his name after Bionicle character Takua the Chronicler. (for those of you who liked the franchise back in 2001-2004) Last but not least, my d-bag renegade MaleShep is named after the "worst video game character name ever": Jet Brody.
Got a few more MaleSheps, but the were given names because I had none better.

Shep's called Adam Shepard. Took the name out of Adam and Eve. Found it even more funnier when "Eve" turned out to be a Krogan in ME3.

Jane, because... why the hell not, it's a pretty name.
Lexane, because I have a strange habit of creating redheaded characters with a name close to the name Alexandra. Alexandra was my main Bhaalspawn in Baldur's Gate.
Alan because... actually I don't remember.

I spend a lot of time coming up with names for my Shepards. I like them to mean something, to be a part of their character.
Samantha (Spacer/Sole Survivor) - my middle name. XD (My one and only self-insert.)
Naomi (Colonist/Ruthless) - named after a woman from the Bible who lost her family
"I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me." - Ruth 1, Verse 20
Annabel (Spacer/Ruthless) - named after Edgar Allen Poe's poem Annabel Lee
"It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me." - Edgar Allan Poe, Annabel Lee
Janine (Earthborn/Sole Survivor) - named after the David Bowie song Janine
"Janine, Janine, you'd like to know me well
I've got things inside my head that even I can't face
Janine, Janine, you'd like to crash my walls
If you take an ax to me
You'll kill another man not me at all
Oh yeah, see the bricks fall." - David Bowie, Janine

After I found out what happens to Shepard at the beginning of ME2, I went back and renamed my only Shepard "Renata," which means born again, or reborn. Of course, it is referring to that concept in a religious sense, but I still get a bit of kick out of it. =D
Works again after getting the "good" ending of ME3.
