There's really no story behind the names I pick for my Shepards, I simply like them - Jessica, Ginevra, Sarah and Rebecca so far.

Simple...being of Asian descent I wanted an Asian Shepard. So..I chose Jeong....it sounds like John just its just an Asian name instead. It works lol.

I'm so bad at coming up with names for all my game characters... I mostly name them after characters from other franchises or even forms of media, especially characters with unusual names. And if that doesn't work, I just browse one of those "name database" sites.

So, for example, I have a Berlitz Shepard who is named after the charming Lady Platinum Berlitz from Pokémon Special but I also have Katida Shepard, whose name is apparently Esperanto for "kittenish", which stands for "playful, lively, or flirtatious".

I've used the same selection of names for all my RPG characters since Baldur's Gate, each with their own characteristics: The Ranger/Infiltrator Versidious being one, then Ragen the Mage/Sentinel, Reavir the berserk Fighter/Vanguard, William the stoic Fighter/Soldier, Askyra the noble and self-sacrificing Paladin/Vanguard, and Karissa, the manipulative mage/Adept.

'Purity' for paragon.

'Vanity' for renegade.

For FF, 'Verity' (paragon).

I think the reasons speak for themselves.

I usually go with my own ethnic background for names. Satvros, Konstantinos, Militades, or Spyridon. For femshep I use Theodoras or especially Evodokia.

The first Shepard I made I used my own name.

The second one I made, Ellyria, is based on Illyria from the TV show Angel.

The third one is Chylise, whom I got from the random name generator in World of Warcraft.

I use all three names in BioWare games and MMOs. Chylise is my goody goody/healer type, Ellyria is the bad girl, and the one named after myself I choose options based on what I would do.

I wanted a name that explains why people refer to him by his last name all the time instead of his first name. So, I figured it had to be a name he wouldn't like.

"Edwin" seemed to fit the bill. So, my canon Shepard's name is "Edwin Shepard." One of the first things he tells people when he meets them is to just refer to him by his last name. He hates being called "Edwin."

He's named after his grandfather, who was in turn named after Edwin Hubble, the astronomer. So, his middle name is "Hubble," for a full name of "Edwin Hubble Shepard."

I wanted a "boy-ish" name for my main (renegade, sentinel) femShep but something that her family (back on Mindoir) could have shortened that sounded more "cutesy". I came up with Elliott Jean Shepard. Her family called her Elli-Jean (they were very close). She hasn't gone by that name since she was 16 (when Mindoir was attacked). Kaidan (her ME1 LI) sometimes called her "Elle", though Garrus (ME2-3 LI) only calls her by "Elliott" or "Shepard".

I write fanfic, can you tell? :P

I also have a (paragon, Adept) femShep named "Caridan" (named after "Caridin's Cross" in DA:O with a slight change in spelling) and a somewhat crazy (inflitrator w/ shotgun) femShep named "Jesse".

For some reason, when it comes to manShep, I've never been able to deviate from "John".

@DWH1982- Love it! Great explaination, too!

I don't really ever have interesting stories to choosing names. I actually have a list of male and female names that I use for my game characters haha. My main Femshep's name is Caia. My renegade Femshep is named Styria (got it from Final Fantasy XIII's Shiva Sisters).

I can't remember what I name my MShep, I haven't played as male in so long.

Natasha - my name, wasn't feeling particularly creative that day obviously.

Lila - just liked the name, no real reason behind it.

Aderyn - means bird in Welsh, I'd picked the name out for Hawke but thought I'd reuse it.

Cassandra - in Greek mythology Cassandra had the gift of prophecy but the curse that no one would believe her. Seemed appropriate for Shepard.

Natasha, huh? You have origins from Eastern Europe? :)

I'm just following canon and doesn't even change anything in character creator.
