Really not sure why they needed to cut the mole from the Normandy. It would have been simple enough to have a post-Thessia cutscene where EDI reveals a random crew member as the mole (i.e. some crew member who is named and has a few lines). You could then choose to turn them in and drop them off at the Citadel to Alliance police or just shoot them. Missed opportunity.

As others have mentioned, there apparently was a sabatuer subplot involving the only guy that regularly salutes you on the crew deck. To bad it got cut, I'd've liked to have seen it,

Seriously?!

How was that supposed to play out?

Here's a better idea:

What if there was no mole?
What if the unauthorized transmission was just someone breaking protocol and thinking they could get away with squeezing out extra data, or making a personal call?
What if Cerberus just happened to find it because someone didn't follow the rules?

Did anyone think of that?

I always suspected the "mole" was EDI, and she didn't even know it. It wouldn't surprise me that TIM had a low level subroutine installed to constantly monitor and transmit data back from the Normandy from EDI. It was constantly running and became like background noise to EDI. Otherwise how would TIM know about the data from Mars about Thessia.

Oh and if it was a crew member? Shepard would do some enhanced interrogation.

Didn't Cerberus attack the Shadow Broker's ship? I assume that when they got control of that, they then got all the wealth of information that came with it.

Liara played it smart. She grabbed everything she could get and used the rest as a suicide bomber.

I wonder if the sidequest where you needed to upgrade the engines so that everybody in engineering wouldn't die during heavy combat was related to this.  I always felt like there was more to that assignment, but it never went anywhere.

Pretty much this.

Liara & company abandoned ship, ramming the Cerberus Cruiser with the Shadow Broker ship.
