Simple question, think long and hard, and explain your reasoning if you please.

They all had similarities and differences in approach, you can rank/compare them in any way you please, just want to know what you all thought.

For me it was Mass Effect 1, since it was the original concept, featured a very well defined series of foes, be it Saren, Sovereign, The Matriarch, the Geth etc. The graphics and combat were executed well, and despite bugs/glitches the game itself was solid. The story was tight and coherent, the cast of characters both in your party and within the universe was diverse, there was LOTS of sidequesting material and insane amounts of customization. Had freeroam elements both space and in the Mako :P. The battle sequences were all memorable and the events were cohesive to the main story. The choices you made had great impact on the outcomes of the game, and the final sequence itself was a masterpiece, the memory of scaling the citadel council tower will always be in my mind, as will the giant space battle that took place during. Sovereign was also one of the most intriguing foes as well, and his puppet Saren, and how the story seemed to shift between you and them very in depth. And again the geth made an amazing adversary, as well as all the other races you managed to fight throughout the course of the game. Overall I just loved it and its probably my favorite game of all time, and that is a title I don't bestow lightly.

So how about you? Which is your favorite?

Seems the poll has over 40 votes already, but we have 0 posts here lol...posting here or at least bumping this thread helps others find the poll...so it is very useful for getting more complete data.

ME1 was my favorite hands down. Best game in the entire trilogy.

I'll help you bump it.

ME1 (its impact)
ME3
ME2

THey are all great though. Planet scanning, redundant hacking minigames (ME1 PC has it perfect), and lots of unimportant plot development leaves ME2 as sort of the great ME game, that really just served as a catalyst for exceptional DLC and ME3.

Mass Effect 1 was a revolution for me and for games. Therefore, Mass Effect 2 was the best so far.

Every revolution needs a evolution to get at its peak. ME1 is unpolished, with boring side missions and a sick level system... So, Mass Effect 2 kept the good things, fixed what was fixable and throw in the garbage the bad things.

I used to think that ME2 is the best ME game, but now that I'm re-playing ME1 (after finishing ME3), I'm blown away by it - so much to explore, lots of big spaces, the MAKO (which I like), a very good plot, memorable locations (Feros is one of the best in the series, IMHO) and so on. Just... WOW!

Waiting in anticipation for Mass Effect 3...not so much afterwards.

The suicide mission in ME2. All the sequences were well constructed, the outcome rewarded you for doing side quests throughout the game - by being able to save everybody - and the conclusion was really uplifting (helped by one of the best musical themes in any computer game ever).

Not going to harp on with how this relates to ME3 for obvious reasons :P

Definitely Mass Effect 1. I think 2 was the worst in the series, planet scanning, vorcha, blue suns...it was too repetitive and boring.

3 was not that bad, but even the ending can't make it worse than 2 imo.
ME1 had a lot to explore, a plot that made sense, great codex entries and better romance (not everybody was after shepard). I think the series should have ended with 1, the reapers never reaching the galaxy and humanity finally finding a place in the galaxy. When I finished it it never occurred to me that there would be a sequel.

All mass effect 1 needed was a fan mod/patch that fixes the economy and the ammount of loot/credits. It would have been great if the game had better progression and you could only get the best armor during a new playthrough with the same character. But BioWare didn't allow for any of this to happen...

ME3 would have been the best only if...
ME2 is better working than ME1 even though story is not as good, so I think ME2 is best game of the serries.

Thanks for the bumps folks, the competition is fierce among the games, with all of them being relatively even at around 23 votes just moments ago, now ME1 and ME2 seem to have gathered more.

I don't know why people care so much about "exploration". To explore means walk around empty spaces doing nothing.

Planet scanning was good thing. You could actually see the change after a time in the scanner. Upgrades kick in, better weapons, new heavy weapons, stronger powers and you will find really good side missions, not just some enemies in generic building with the same Mako cutscene.

Also, Mass Effect 2 has way more interesting characters than both ME1 and ME3. Squad-mates with background story, personality and opinion. Even the playmate, Miranda, had something to talk about.

Lost literally dozens of hours talking with Legion, Thane, Joker, EDI, Jack, Grunt, Mordin... I smiled at Zaeed stories. Kelly Chambers really surprised me. Mordin made me laugh with his music(and STD advice). Even smaller characters like Aria T'Loak, Kal'Reegar, Daro'Xen, Vas Quib Quib, Matriarch Aethyta, Urdnot Mechanic, Ratch and even Urz, the Varren were interesting characters. No game has done what ME2 did with characters. Thats why everyboy cries with Mordin in ME3.

Don't get me started on technical aspects... I will give one thing tough, I still get the chills with Sovereign. "I am the Vanguard of your destruction".

Really? Shepard's final words "the reapers are still out there and I'm going to find a way to stop them" (paraphrased) wasn't a dead give away to you?

Nope, they just seemed out of place, but I assumed he was still too excited from saving the galaxy to think straight :D
PS it is so refreshing to think how much easier this is to explain than the mass effect 3 ending :P

ME1 was the best. This isnt a fair poll because PS3 players are obviously going to vote ME2. And ME2 wasnt very good.

I liked the story of ME1. ME2 has a good story and better game play. Honestly I prefer ME3 overall. So many parts just hit on all cylinders for me and if the end goes where I hope it goes it will be the best. IMHO

I want to understand why ME1 is better than ME2. I mean it, I really don't get it. ME2 is the best game I ever played in my life. Around 250 hours played.

I consider ME1 mediocre, and ME3 a living gold. I don't care about the endings, the game rocks.
