Empire Strikes Backs, i.e., Mass Effect 2.

No other thing on the trilogy gets closer to the feeling of breaching Omega 4 relay and the danger that you may face for the choices you've made.

I think, out of everything, my favorite missions were Bring Down The Sky and Haestrom.

me1>me2>.......>me3
me1 had best story, most astounding atmosphere of three, great character development, lot of exploration and is truly rpg.
me2 was dumbed down from sci-fi game to hollywood-like game, had a good charcter development(i liked only few of them), had awesome soundtrack, and it is action rpg.
me3 is not rpg, more like average shooter with few additions from rpg like codex, rushed game and big dissapointment even without **** endings.

ME1.

It had film grain.

And the magic. Why wouldn't it? It's always the first game that has the magic. It showed us a shiny, bright galaxy of infinite possibilities, threatened by an ancient, unstoppable force from the depths of space. Everything was new and wondrous.

Then the series got grittier and started to deconstruct itself. Now, ME2 and ME3 are great games, but, ugh! There was an asari cop in the second game! A cop! Police! How mundane, how common, how very normal of the culturally superior space elves. Had they wanted to preserve the magic, asari law enforcement should have consisted entirely of justicars. *rant, rant, rant* Realism should be preserved for the setting's science and that alone.

I really liked ME1.

Mainly because I could actually have situations where my sniper rifle would be put to good use.

ME2 and 3 seem to instantly suffer from an overgrowth of chesthighwalls. Renders Sniper Rifles not as useful.

The ending of ME3, such emotion and closure. Made the whole trilogy worthwhile.

I feel they all have things that make them better in some way. I love the story in ME, love the game mechanics in ME2 and if it weren't for the ending, I'd be in love with ME3. If I had to choose, I'd probably say ME2 is my fave because the suicide mission was awesome.

At this point, I like to think I've just played and finished ME1, then use my imagination for the rest of the trilogy. At least it wouldn't be as big a disappointment as 2 and 3.

ME1, best written, paced and executed story of the three hands down. Best antagonist in Saren. It has my favorite missions (Virmire, Ilos/Battle of Citadel), favorite antagonist (Saren/Sovereign) and I liked the squad the best.

ME3 is second, and since I thought ME2 had the worst story of the three it finishes third.

ME 1 has a pretty good story. I really enjoyed Shepard trying to figure out the way to stop saren... without any help of the so called "galactic authorities".
ME 2 has the best background story and developmento the characters. Although the collectors thing is not too convincing. (almost nobody saw a collector before... but suddenly all your squad member know some things about them). And i loved the Suicide Mission.
ME 3 has more reaper fight (and i mean destroyers), more cinematics and a moving soundtrack. Although some problems in the scripts, i enjoyed the story. Being able to cure or not the genophage, end the geth quarian conflict once and for all. And of course i loved Liara Romance, very well executed.

I cant choose one.

I do wish they gave ME1 a conclusive ending, then translate into a sequel as opposed to the obvious setup/transition, I probably would have not played ME3 if that were the case, ME2 I would have of course on the promise of being like ME1. But I think like you.

That is a hard question to answer ... I would have to say
ME3 <== Not the ending
ME1 <== Inventory was a mess but overall a awesome game
ME2 <== Story was a bit of a let down but refined game-play made up for this.

I would have to say ME2 + ME1 are about tied to me.

I think that would cause the votes to drop further in ME3 catagory, what I suggest is if you like it more than you like ME1/ME2 without the ending then you should vote ME3 regardless.

ME1, aesthetically it's more beautiful, and it really feels like old sci-fi.

Everything after landing on Ilos is pure, sc-fi ecstasy. No game has ever come close to the spectrum of emotions I felt during the original ME's end-game.

Hell, perhaps nothing ever will.

Does anyone else have difficulty ranking Mass Effect 3?

I thought it was the best game of the series right up until the last 5 or 10 minutes. I have difficulty ranking it because overall I thought it was a great game, and is one that could possibly still be redeemed by DLC that provides a more satisfying conclusion.

I have to replay fully the first one but definitely ME3 is the best, I had not cry so much and felt souch a mix of emotions in a videogame before. Every time an old character from the first or second game reappears was pure joy and excitement to me, like if I had known all these characters for years. The stories of every character was superbly handled. The combat is so much more fluid and intense than before, and the massive scale of war moments you live through is stunning. Yeah the ending left a lot to be desired but I know that magical DLC will make it all good, I have faith. Oh and I killed Kai leng, that is good enough for me.

I love the last boss battles with saren and sovereign in ME1, and I love that you get to meet and know all your squadmates in ME2 by doing their loyalty missions. Reality is, I can't choose one over the other, because each game is connected in a way they become one together.

Mass Effect 1. ME2 was lackluster, and ME3 was just insulting from a gameplay standpoint.

No question - just ask yourself how you felt completing the first ME1 playthru vs. the others. - and even though I know every line, I still enjoy.
